Dunlap interviewing for Charlotte Bobcats job

Jordan is finding that building a winning NBA team is harder than hitting a curveball.

First off is that they must somehow get the "Hornets" moniker back from New Orleans. New Orleans new owner Benson doesn't want the Hornets name. He wants to change it to something more...well...New Orleans. Charlotte would really benefit from the name, colors and branding that tied into the city of Charlotte. They lost much of their identity when that name left town. The Hornets will likely be back in Charlotte.

New Orleans should demand the Jazz name back from Utah!

The Washington Nationals should be the Senators, who became the Minnesota Twins (for Twin Cities). I liked the Seatle Supersonics, but the name was more about the home of Boeing. The Kansas City Royals becmae the Sacramento Kings. The Minneapolis Lakers (appropriate for the terrain) became the LA Lakers with no relevance. The Philadelphia Warriors moved to San Francisco in 1963, then confused matters by trading their franchise player to the Philadelphia 76ers in 1964.

Except that there never was an NBA Kansas City Royals (strictly an MLB franchise). Originally the Rochester (NY) Royals, they became the very successful Cincinnati Royals (Big O, Jack Twyman & Jerry Lucas), but when they moved to KC in '72, they became the Kansas City Kings.
