Bobcats will also talk with Pat Ewing, tho they haven't yet asked for permission from Orlando...they have talked briefly with Nate McMillan

...Bobcats will interview Mike Dunlap, associate head coach at St. John's U, & Cleveland Cavs assistant Nate Tibbetts next week, sources say

it is what it is. If he gets the job I'm very happy for him if he doesn't I'm thrilled to have him back.

Just having his name legitimately mentioned for an nba head coaching job I would think look pretty good for us in recruiting

I totally agree--happy for him if he gets it .... happy for us if he stays

“@STJCoachLavin: Coach Dunlap's being invited to interview for the head coaching position in Charlotte is a compliment to Mike and our program. #stjbb”

Everyone knows I am not a huge Dunlap fan but my two takes. 1) I hope he stays actually because the returning kids know him and it keeps consistency and I think he knows the game as a tactician and his planning+Lavin being back and our incoming kids will be great. 2) If he takes it, Lavin can now say, hey, my staff produces NBA coaches etc, and will continue to get good coaches and he will be able to sell that to kids.

I was hoping it was UNC Charlotte when I first saw this. Oh well. If he comes back it can only help to show kids that he has the NBA sniffing at him. If he goes I'm sure Lavin will find a good replacement. Slide everyone up the bench and make Hicks an assistant?

That's great news for him and a significant honor. Just to be considered for head coaching job at the nba level - without ever have played in the league before - means you are very highly regarded in a close fraternity of coaches.

I hope he gets it. Good for him. You like to see good things happen to good people. From what little I could tell from watching him this past season, he certainly seems like a good and decent person.

Nobody will play for him. He's a no nonsense coach and the NBA is full of coddled thugs who think they can do whatever they want, IMHO. I'm pretty sure that's why Lindsey left.

They'll play for him if Mr. Michael Jordan tells 'em: 'You'll play hard for this coach or I'll ship you to the D-league."

Mind you, I'm not saying that Lindsey is a thug, I'm saying that he didn't have the discipline to play for a no nonsense coach.

Bobcats roster IS D-league. Jordan doesnt want to spend the dough. They need a new owner and need the Hornets name back. They lost all identity.

One can only hope.

a team with the worst record in nba history needs a no nonsense coach. dunlap would fit the bill nicely!

That's what I'm afraid of. Dunlap is a detail machine and all about instilling a culture. We really need Coach here one more year. This is his scheme and we have more new guys than returners that need to learn it straight from him.

My friends in charlotte could care less about the name on the jersey. It would be nice to see hornets jack but has nothing to do with their woes

Where has it been shown that Lindsey can play for any D1 coach. Nuri was given every opportunity to succeed by Coach Dunlap. It was his team initially and he screwed it up. At the first sign of adversity, the young man ran. Him and his "knowledgeable" handlers can't blame Coach Dunlap for him shooting 0% from the 3 point line. They can't blame Coach Dunlap for all the turnovers. They can't blame Coach Dunlap for all the times his shot was blocked because he was afraid to take pullup jumpers instead of going all the way to the basket. All coaches, managers, bosses, place demands on the people assigned to them, that is just a fact of life.
We had a total of seven new players last year, the six who stuck it out all got better. One ran, I will take six out of seven any day. I think that in itself says a whole lot about playing for no-nonsense Coach Dunlap.

Then we agree.

Kinda like he got them to play hard for Paul Silas. As an administrator, Jordan was a great player.................

Exactly Logan. After breaking my Knicks heart so many times, I never want to see Jordan win anything more in the NBA. His front office ineptitude has now reached a second franchise.

I think its a honor for Dunlap to be interviewed and can only help in recruiting and solidifying his legitimacy as a basketball coach for the incoming players. however, there is no WAY he gets this job. Jordan has sat through months of articles about him being "the worst executive ever"; there is no way he responds to that criticism by hiring the associate head coach of a college team that didn't even make the NCAA tournament. Jordan is trying to conduct a comprehensive head coaching search by interviewing Dunlap and the Cavs assistant, Jordan is performing his due dilligence and searching under every rock for the right coach for the Bobcats job. Honestly, its what he should be doing, but I think he's taking it a step further this time around to show the media that he is putting forth the right kind of search.

Whether Dunlap gets the position or not, its nothing but good for SJU Hoops.
