Dunlap fired!?

I wouldn't rule out anything in sports, but I would think that if nothing turned up for him this summer, he could come back for a season or two until another good fit for him opened up.

Do you think that Dunlap's style was more disagreeable to Jordan than the actual win output?

It's gotta be something like that, the players were rumored to be complaining about his disciplinary style from early in the season as I recall. Can't imagine anyone expected better results with that roster.

Why would Dunlap come back?

Maybe he likes working with young college kids better.

Maybe this last run in the NBA soured him to all of the bureaucracy at that level.

The decent college head coaching jobs are all pretty much taken at this point. Why not come back to an assistant HC position at a place where he's familiar with?

I can't see him getting an assistant coaching gig in the NBA so soon unless it's Denver because of his ties to George Karl or at Golden State because of his ties with Mark Jackson and Mullin.

I'd love to have him back as well, but wouldn't Lavin have to fire Hines, Chiles, or Martin? I don't think thats something he would do. If there were a spot open on the staff then absolutely, but I don't think its realistic even if Dunlap would consider returning.

Wrobel moves on and everyone else moves down a peg.

Interesting that some of the pro players described him as "snappish" and complained about the length of some practices.

Another reason to hate pro players.

He's probably best suited for a mid-major, where kids will listen to him. I think he considers Colorado "home," but none of those jobs are open, right?

I think it might be the win total, actually. Jordan was one of the most disciplined athletes ever, so I would think crybaby players would piss him off.

But he also won a lot.

Guys please don't ever underestimate lavin! And Dunlop Has always been his guy.....I'm sure they has spoken already ;)

With the formation of the new Big East, don't we have an additional 3 mil in TV revenue to hire Dunlap?

That is correct but the money goes to the school not directly to the basketball program, the university management then decides how to allocate that television revenue.

Did they even know each other before 2010?

Pretty sure they had known each other for years, but I don't think they were golf buddies or anything like that.

That's not happening

Top 5 reasons why Dunlap does not one back.

5. Why would he be an assisstant to someone who he is superior to in coaching skills?
4. There is no room in the coaching staff roster.
3. His coaching style ( tough disciplinarian) turns many kids off. Do you all remember how happy the players were when they thought coach Lavin would return?
2. Why would Lavin bring ack a oach who already as one foot out the door.
1. He enjoys coaching at te pro level better.

5. He was superior to Lavin the two seasons he was here.
4. If he was truly interested, I imagine room would be made.
3. Kids need discipline, especially since they apparently grow up into a-hole pros who run coaches off for making them work too hard in practice
2. Lavin wants his assistants to pursue opportunities for advancement.
1. When did he say that?

I am with everyone else here, I want Dunlap back.

My question is why did Charlotte hire him in the first place? They had the worst roster in the NBA by a mile, yet they played hard. Red Holtzman and Red Aurbach combined could not win with that team.

Once again Michael Jordan has pissed me off. He break my Knick loving heart over and over when he was a player,. He didn't hire Mike Jarvis for the Wizards (while Jay Wright waited in his car to sign a deal at SJU) and now he takes Dunlap from SJU, only to fire him a year later.

I despise Michael Jordan. I really do.

Then stop wearing those Jordan sneakers,
You just make Jordan and Phil Knight rich. LOL

Not to mention I don't even buy Hanes underwear. :p

TMI :) :)

Nuggets coach George Karl, Dunlap's former boss in Denver, said Dunlap was on his way to Hawaii after hearing the news.

"About 80 percent of Mike Dunlap is sad and despondent because he wants to continue coaching in the league," Karl said. "(But) there will be a piece of him that is relieved. In general, we get paid a lot of money to do a very difficult job. Sometimes it's not a thankful job."

After the season, Dunlap sounded like a man politicking to keep his job.

"I never thought that we were going to blink our eyes and have 35 wins," Dunlap said last week. "I thought it was always going to be a slog. We're slowly moving this thing around and again, what's perspective? The worst team in the history of the NBA (last season), all right, so how do you go from seven wins to, say, 40 wins? That's pretty tough to do."

his disciplinary tactics couldn't have been worse than pj carlesemo's...and pj is back in the league. he took a bunch of overpaid, underachieving, prideless crybabies and whiners who couldn't win more than an embarassing seven games...and tripled the win total.

patience, coach. something will turn up.

His reputation will travel far in pro circles. I don't think he sees another NBA gig for awhile.

I'm all for discipline. But in the NBA, the players run the asylum.

College ADs will love him though. I say take a spot on our staff for one year. He'll be in line for top spots all around the nation in '14.
