I love it

Poser. His dad is a double-SJU alum.

One of Andrew's closest friends in life is his first cousin Charlie, whose father is brother to Matilda Cuomo. Andrew would come to Cunningham Park on Sunday mornings in the late 70s to watch SJU fraternity football where his cousin competed.

What a phenomenal game this has been, cuse tried to pull away but duke hits 3 straight threes and are down 2 70-68

Thoroughly enjoyed watching the cuse fans reactions after he duke player nailed a buzzer beater three to send it into OT.

Quinn Cook is a good pg but he shoots too damn much and he's the second worst shooter on the floor at all times. Duke has four guys with substantially higher three point %s, yet Cook leads them in attempts? 2-12 today cost his team the game. He takes 4-5 shots and they win.

I would appreciate if one of the many knowledgeable posters on this site would explain to me why more men's college basketball teams don't use the 2/3 zone as their principle defense.

Thanks.

Didn't Duke hit something like 16 3s against it?

It's a very lazy defense. Teaches bad tendencies.

Great question. I am partial to it myself, but I think the prevailing reasons would be deeply rooted preferences of man-to-man going back decades, and probably the fact that you need a ton of long athletes to make it work as well as Syracuse.

The major weakness of a 2-3 is offensive rebounding. You make the other team pay by pushing at every opportunity of the glass. To do that you need some top notch athletes. Also, to be truly effective there needs to be a tremendous amount of (1)length--to block passing lanes and close out on shooters after a rotation--and (2)speed--to rotate and recover multiple times per possession. That is most likely why you don't see too many mid-majors running it.

I don't think it's lazy at all if done right. Syracuse traps as much as anyone out there. They are constantly moving.

Some less athletic teams will run a passive 2-3 and that is where it gets its bad rep from. You need athletes to run am aggressive trapping 2-3.

That was about as good a game as you could hope to see and the rare occasion Duke didn't benefit from the officiating. They'll bury them at Cameron where they'll be able to play a whole game with their frontcourt

98,

I respect your opinion and recognize that your response is the accepted talking point but having seen Boeheim's 2/3 I can't understand how you can call his defense "lazy".

The 2/3 or like zone played in school yards, CYO, or most high schools may be termed "lazy" but my Syracuse friends smile every season as Boeheim and company win over the teams that play that non lazy man to man defense.

I noticed that also. Somehow I don't think the timing was coincidental, kudos to SJU for spending the money to air those commercials on prime time on ESPN, during a Syracuse game. I loved it.

That couldn't have been a coincidence. Great job by St. John's!
