Not much to say about this one, big game. Duke is #5 ranked in the nation and only have two losses to NC State and Miami. So no they aren't unbeatable.

In their two losses, the main reason was they shot 20+ threes and didn't make many. Shot 6-21 in loss to nc state, and 7-27 against Miami. They like to shoot the 3 and go to okafor down low. That's what they do most of the time.

If we continue the trend we've showed this season, which is basically giving up many wide open 3s, this has potential to get ugly. We have to get out on their shooters. We are either gonna limit their 3 point shots and give up tons of offensive boards, or pack it in and hope and pray they struggle shooting.

It is a bad matchup, the worst we will see this season IMO, and we need many things to happen for this to be competitive. Sheed needs to play well, Dom needs to do it all like he did against Marquette, co needs to stay out of foul trouble, DLo needs to shoot better, and Phil needs to get hot from 3, especially if they zone us.

I am fully expecting a game where we stay down in the 10-14 range and lose. But the first five minutes of this game will say a lot about whether or not we came to play or just showed up.

I can't stand the fact that he might get number 1,000 in our building, but right now I predict a St. John's loss, please please please prove me wrong.

Duke 77
SJU 62

Okafor out due to hand injury. Needed 8 stitches as a result of cutting a large cabbage in his off campus apartment.
Who am I kidding! That can only happen in our St. John's twilight zone.

The last time Duke came to MSG we all know what happened 93-78 Johnnies. I guess the question is which team would you rather have playing tomorrow the 2011 team which started Polee, Brownlee, DJ, Hardy , and Horne. They used Boothe, Evans, and Burrell off the bench. Or Jordan, Harrison, Greene, Dom, Chris with Amar, Branch, and Jones off the bench. I'd lean towards 2011.

That 2011 game was part of the run that launched that team into the tournament. Here's hoping history repeats itself...

That team would bury this team.
Everybody played as hard as Harrison, nobody chucked, everybody rebounded and defended well and they got transition baskets with ease.

From The Time Machine: St. John's vs. Duke

February 26, 2000 - St. John's 83, Duke 82

Everyone dreams for a shot at taking down the vaunted Blue Devils on their home court. In the 2000 season, the Red Storm made that dream a reality. It was the perfect encore to the previous year's meeting that had gone down to the wire. Once again, it was Bootsy Thornton who led the Johnnies with a 22-point night over a Duke team that eventually went on to lose in the Sweet 16. St. John's had been 11.5-point underdogs entering the game against stars like Jason Williams, Shane Battier, and Carlos Boozer. The epic game has stood for twelve years as the last time Duke lost to a non-conference opponent at Cameron.

March 2, 2003 - St. John's 72, Duke 71
=84503534&x-yt-ts=1421914688&v=H_ubVvouc_0

It took a 12-0 run in the final minutes, but St. John's squeaked out a shocking victory over Duke late in the 2002-03 season. That year's Red Storm was an average team at best (won NIT). On that Sunday afternoon, they were too much for 6th-ranked Duke. It was a last second mid-court steal and fast-break drive by Marcus Hatten that allowed the upset to be completed.

With no time on the clock, Hatten sunk the first free throw and St. John's walked off with a thrilling win. The loss snapped Duke's 26-game non-conference win streak and, as Billy Packer mentions at the end of the preceding video, may have kept them away from a top seed in the NCAA Tournament.

January 30, 2011 - St. John's 93, Duke 78

The 93-78 drubbing St. John's gave Duke proved to be the turning point of a season that saw the Johnnies' first trip to the NCAA Tournament in nine years. An early spurt by the Red Storm, driven by solid offensive performances from Dwight Hardy, Justin Brownlee, Paris Horne, D.J. Kennedy, and Sean Evans, took the fire out of the Blue Devils. They were never able to recover. Krzyzewski's team shot an abysmal 5-26 from behind the arc in a game that, at one point, they found themselves down by 25. The win defined the Red Storm's best season in nearly a decade and provided first-year head coach Steve Lavin with his first marquee win at the helm. The victory snapped St. John's seven-game losing streak to Duke.

Just to remind you, after 9 Big East games in 2011, the team you think would bury us was 4-5. Now I know that will send some of you scrambling for the record book and point out all kinds of things (like a 3-0 Big East start). But it wasn't until the 10th Big East game - the second half of the Big East schedule, that that years team really jelled and went on a prolonged tear. Don't write this year's team off too soon, because in my opinion that top 6 is more talented.

98-71 duke.
gets out of hand late as our guys are too gassed.
it will be the highlight of the season for Duke as they wont make it out of the first weekend in March again.
i dont think this is an all time great Duke team but lets be honest other than Providence when we shot the ball great we have played abysmally since New Years Eve...

Some of you guys should develop your own site, anti-redmen.com, or something like that. This is a Catholic institution, have a little faith

because no catholic shouts more "faith" than our pope when he is driving up the street in a car with 6-inch thick bullet proof windows ;)

Avon, as long as we are being honest, just about any of our wins vs. Duke at the Garden have been a mild to major surprise. The other night, CO and Pointer combined for 11 (ELEVEN!!!) blocked shots, and although some of you insist that Harrison was wheelchair bound, he blocked two shots also.

I would agree that on paper this doesn't look good. But I also wouldn't write us off. As they say, we have some history with Duke, and I'm sure Coach K is reminding his team of that.

Just for some current events Avon, in case you haven't been in the pews for awhile or paying attention, Pope Francis has gotten rid of bullet proof panes in the Pope mobile, most recently last week at a public mass for 6 million in the Philippines. For that matter, Pope JPII ignored all warnings for his safety from the airport to the city when visiting war ravaged Croatia.

Yes. Don't write us off. We've played well against the #3 ranked team for a half, and same thing with the #4 ranked team. Can we put two halves together and shock the #5 ranked team?? I hope so. Go Redmen!!!

Agreed, as someone pointed out STJ was 11.5 point dogs last time they played at MSG so anything can happen.

No. 5 Duke at St. John's, Sunday, 2 p.m. ET

If Duke wins in Madison Square Garden Sunday, its coach, a man named Mike Krzyzewski, will earn his 1,000th career victory. Have you heard about this? Yes? Good. So what are Duke's chances of actually securing said win? They're good, of course, but hardly guaranteed. St. John's guard D'Angelo Harrison is quietly having the best offensive season of his career, combining explosive penetration with elite finishing and one of the nation's lowest turnover rates. In Duke's two losses, opposing guards had their way with the Blue Devils's perimeter defenders; it's not hard to imagine Harrison getting to his favorite spots on the floor (Harrison loves to drive right, where he mixes in pull-up jumpers) via isolation drives and ball screens. Duke's newly favored zone might help on that front ... but star freshman center Jahlil Okafor will still have to create points against Chris Obekpa and the rest of one of the nation's best defensive frontcourts. Everyone's ready for a coronation, and understandably so: Duke should beat a team that just lost to DePaul and barely got past Marquette at home. But doing so might be slightly trickier than it appears at first glance.

im going to be there and bet on our moneyline. My guess is +350. Will either be in the hole for double my seat price or walking out the biggest winner in the joint

With CO and Dom, we are exceptional at blocking shots, pretty much every game this season. I think theres a good chance that Harrison has a career game, and if CO stays out of foul trouble, I think we have a shot.

I don't post much but I have to insert my 2 cents here. You can't write this team off with Duke, SJU has some history with Duke and seems to usually give them a good run for their money. Some posters are just down right fatalists. I will be in the house supporting my team on Sunday and getting abused by my many friends whom are Duke fans. This is college basketball, expect a lot of unexpected to happen. LETS GO REDMEN!!!!

Gonna apologize early for this. We've lost every game i've been to at the garden the past 2 years. It's not a ton, but i make it to the big/pivotal games nowadays. The only wrinkle is i'm going to bring my family, so hopefully that reverses things. We certainly have our hands full. Need everyone to be firing on all cylinders to keep this game within range.
