That's because New Yorkers know the difference between The City and Long Island
I am very aware about the 5 boroughs being a part of New York City. I grew up in queens myself.

But You don’t seem to understand my point. Geographically bayridge and montauk are both on Long Island.

To say queens is not Long Island because it’s part of New York City is false.

It’s a really interesting venue and a lot of us are coming from the city. We also have a lot of Mets fans too so the commute is less of an obstacle mentally for those who have done dozens of times.
I like the phrase “is less than an obstacle mentally”.

Actually, i remember reading an old newspaper clip from the early 50's about a Brooklyn Dodger. It said he lived in Astoria on Long Island. So much of Nassau and Suffolk county was completely undeveloped in 1950.

Roll that back about to 1910 and the only homes in Garden City were the victorian homes built by their mayor alex stewart. (Stewart avenue)

The doubleday publishing company, a new company located in union square, thought rents were too high, and started scouting sites in the country. They chose garden city, where their mayor ran a nice town and there was plenty of space for employees to build affordable homes. They had access from the city via the lirr was good for those who chose to remain the the city, and the lirr built a station for Doubleday, called Country Life Press, on the Hempstead line. Employees could literally step off the train and be at work.

History lesson for the day. Garden city - affordable homes in the country. Hah

The Battle of Long Island from the Revolutionary War was fought in Brooklyn Heights.

As a Brooklyn born now NJ resident, I know a lot of Johnny fans on LI and in Jersey and Manhattan, Bklyn and SI but not that many in Queens itself interestingly. The Bronx and Queens are so big and diverse that I am not sure (except for the students) we have a compelling number of Queens fans who are not alumni. Didn't many of ST. Johns-types from Queens over time move to the Island?

Our fans are are sprinkled throughout all the 5 boroughs (rememberer SJU has (or about to say "had") a Staten Island campus (for 45 years) where I went undergrad, so we are THE TEAM on S.I., and S.I. is much closer to NJ than NY. We have a bunch of fans in Jersey, when I go into the BET or any MSG game on NJ Transit, it is filled with Johnny fans.

I am not sure our fanbase is disproportionately Queens and LI people. Certainly Nassau has tons of Johnny fans.

Rick himself is originally a Nassau County guy, but lives in Westchester. (I recall during his halcyon KY/LOU days his wife was quoted as saying she loved KY and didn't miss NY except for lack of good Italian food).

You would have made a killing if you had an over/under on how many “island boroughs” make up NYC and conversely, what is the only landlocked borough.

I don’t get all the hate for UBS it is a brand new Arena with way more leg room and real seats and it’s not 10,000 degrees in there. I hate going to games at the school and having my knees in my chest for two hours and sitting on high school bleachers. I have went to both UBS games and will be at the Seton Hall game as well.

Ranger fans

Never said that. I just don't understand what the point of your original post is. Was it basketball related or just a geography lesson? The whole is made up of various parts, i.e. the United States is made up of Indvidual states. No one disputes that elementary concept. End of discussion on my part

Geography lesson. Point is try going around Brooklyn Heights or Williamsburg amongst others and calling folks LIers and see the reaction, despite the statement being factual.

My point is strictly geographical as I stated in my original post. It is so wrongly stated by many that queens and Brooklyn are not on Long Island. And yes they do fight about it.

Try going around Nassau or Suffolk and tell a native from there that Queens and Brooklyn is part of Long Island and you will get hear, “No, they are not, that’s the City.”

Funny story. I met someone on a trip from Brooklyn. After they told me they were from Brooklyn I said hey I live on Long Island too!! ( knowing exactly how they were going to take it). The look of wtf you talking about!!! 🤣🤣🤣

You know, Eric, sometimes I give clients the following piece of advice: You can have a great case, but if you're a jerk you can still lose. On the other hand you can have an iffy case but if you're a good guy sometimes good things happen.

In your case, you can be geographically correct ... and still horribly misguided.

Umm, I'm a native. Just not an ignorant one.

Not at all. I’m 100% correct and not misguided. Think what you want but how can you say misguided on something you can look at a map and decipher? Again. I’m not talking about what people’s perceptions are as far as boroughs and New York City.

And I think it’s time to squash this topic. No need to reply anyone else on it as I’m finished as well.

Back to basketball. Onto the Marquette thread.

Ok. One more post on this message. As I reread your analogy, I hope that is not your way of calling me a jerk. That would not be very nice. But as a mod, I know its not what the analogy was for ;) ;) .
