100% agree. I guess being NCAA tourny team is for teams that "arent that good". I guess almost winning every game against ranked teams, not that good.
To be clear I was talking about the specific reference to Dingle. I don’t think anything else be said was particularly crazy even if I were to disagree

I think it is a fools errand to view a coaches success with his team based on whether or not "player X had better stats at mid major school y"

On a brand new team, in a better league, roles change/alter throughout the year. Guys aren't going to come here and automatically transfer all their same stats from previous stop. Just not how basketball works.

There's better ways to judge Rick on this season.

Also, who cares about actually arguing/having this debate. Our team is on a roll, finally looks cohesive, and appears to be something that will stick. We have two Quad 1 wins in this four game winning streak, and we're going to be tested in the BET next week.

We'll all have answers to this in two weeks time.

Jenkins is playing great.
Didn’t play great yesterday and we’re up by 44.

For too long he was asked or just tried to do to much and he and team, mostly Dingle then Soriano suffered for it.

I feel if would have eased off on Jenkins earlier and ran more stuff for Dingle we would have been where we are now sooner.

Also people giving Rick credit for his tantrum are delusional.

That being said, beat Gtown and win BET game, season was a success.

I hear what you’re saying Larry, but I just feel like automatically blaming the staff for a players lack of production, let’s the player off the hook, especially when said player took a lot of shots this year that he could’ve made, and he missed them. Picking it up lately thank god.

I fully agree with you that spinning the immature rant into a good thing is pretty wacky. Even though it’ll inevitably happen since we are undefeated since

And again no one least of all me is claiming Pitino is anything but one of the top 5 NCAA coaches ever.
He for whatever reason brought in a whole new roster of mostly upperclassmen. The fact that it took all of them but one 26 games to figure out their role is on the coach.

Not one player or a couple players struggled to adjust but 12 did. Not what he intended but after the rant I really think Dingle, Taylor, Ledlum and Wilcher just said screw it I am going to just play my game.

You do realize we are now expected to make the NCAA tournament? If we were not that good we wouldnt even be considered for the NIT! How about just enjoy the ride?
I am enjoying the ride. That doesn’t mean I can’t also be realistic.

There has been no metamorphosis. This is the same freaking team all year.

We can’t stop any even marginally athletic guard from getting in the lane. We defend the three-point line well. And we rebound the ball on offense exceptionally well. That’s who we are.

Here is my post after the Xavier loss when the board was melting down after falling to 1-4 over that 5 game stretch.

Not so sure I agree.

Daniss and Zuby clearly better than they were last year.
Luis' numbers are nearly identical to his numbers at UMass last season. The only thing notably different is his 3pt% is worse
Soriano's another guy who I think you would be shocked if you looked at it, how similar his numbers are compared to last year

The guys who very clearly were worse this year: Alleyne, Dingle, Taylor, Ledlum

I agree with your perspective that Pitino deserves blame for his handling on Taylor, but from watching the games this year, I feel Dingle/Alleyne shoulder a lot of blame for the way their season has gone. They have taken and missed a lot of good shots this year.

Ledlum is a bit of a wildcard. His numbers are down but his impact is still significant. I don't think he has been used incorrectly, I think his numbers are a result of playing in a league with better athletes and better defenders, making him not as effective scoring.

All in all I just feel like there is a lot more nuance to the individual struggles of certain guys

Link includes Pitino postgame presser

DePaul fans lamenting the game wasn’t another 20 minutes as 2 nd half score was only 50-49 in our favor .

If that is what they need in the midst of a 0-20 BE Record , we should allow them that small consolation .

Clearly , their Program has reached pitiful status . Along with G ‘Town . Cooley will make a difference for the Hoyas but , DePaul needs a HR hire to get respectable . It does the. BE little good to have perpetual bottom dwellers .

Pitino in his press conference said he was happy that DePaul came on at the end and made it a little more respectable, and he was happy for them about that.

I found it funny that while some posters were criticizing SJU for not maintaining their defensive intensity midway through the second half up by forty one Pitino was asking the De Paul fans who they wanted him to put in the game.
While I’m sure he is being paid decent money to finish the Season , how does a Interim Coach like Matt Brady get himself motivated in order to try and motivate his players ?

Must be a tough task to practice every day with his players with nothing much to hope for in winning even 1 game . And , what will it take to get fans to support the Program for next year ?

It’s a tough decision for the University . As we well know .

Being a doormat in BB has to hurt the University’s image and identity.. it’s self identify from within too.

It creates the idea the University doesn’t know how to fix a habitual problem . And , that’s a take away that the public , students , alums , faculty all must bear .

No one says “ Wow , DePaul is a great school but , stinks at BB . The first thing that comes to mind is “DePaul stinks at BB.” Period the end .

We know full well that feeling after 20 plus years of our troubles .

We aren’t that good but we also aren’t bad. You guys are insane getting too high and too low.

Dingle isn’t suddenly the player we expected. That’s beyond wishful thinking. He’s the same player offensively he’s been all year…defense has improved substantially.

90% of the shots he’s taken all year have looked great…even his misses. He just gets completely cut out of the game for huge stretches no matter how he’s doing.

We cannot stop any guards from driving but we cover the three point shot very well. So if we get matched up with an unathletic team that lives with the three, we can win that type of game.
Yeah NO.... You may, just may be the only one who has that observation. most definitely and certainly disagree with you!!!

Sorry if someone else mentioned it, but one of my favorite comments made by the announcing team last night (I'm having a brain-freeze on the coach's name) was that he viewed SJU as the dark-horse for the BE tourney, i.e., a team outside of the top-three that has a shot to win the BE Tourney. He kept on mentioning quality depth, and I think he's right about that. To win multiple games in just three (or four) days requires a deep bench, which does not have a sharp drop-off from the starters. Given some of our interchangeable-parts, I think it will be a big advantage for us. Go Johnnies!!!

I believe it was LaVall Jordan. I really enjoyed listening to him too, I think that was the first game I heard him do. He seemed to actually know what he was talking about and knew a lot of accurate info about the team and history which isn't always the case.
