DePaul, Tue., Dec. 17, 6:30p, Peacock

Jarvis Elite 8 team shot 36% from three with Postell at 41%, Bootsy at 38%, Artest at 37% and Barkley at 34%. Doubt we've had a better three point shooting team (or team for that matter) since they introduced the three point shot.
2018-19 team shot 36% beyond the arc as well. Heron 40%, LJ 38%, Ponds and Clark 35% each. Mikey Dixon 46% small sample size (13-30).

i referenced this squad in another thread - making the same point- this team could shoot!.... all they were missing was a Lanky, Bouncey, Shot Blocker.... man what could have been

Yes.

Here is how the 3-point line has evolved in men's and women's basketball:

Men's college basketball 3-point line distance

  • 1986-2008: 19 feet, 9 inches
  • 2008-2019: 20 feet, 9 inches
  • 2019-Present: 22 feet, 1¾ inches
Big difference. When it was enacted in 1986 i read an article that interviewed Pitino. The 34 year old Rick measured off 19'9" took a few shots that got net and declared "We're going to shoot lots of threes this year."

Ponds freshmen year all four of ponds, Lovett, bashir and Mussini made over 50 3s and all 4 shot at least 35%.
Ponds 38%
Lovett 38%
Bashir 35 %
Mussini 43%

I was at the game. Really pumped that they played so well that I was able to leave at the 8 minute media timeout to safely catch my lirr train back to Brooklyn.

Some thoughts:
— The defense was incredible. They were so disciplined, able to switch 1 through 5 with their starters, and really closed every lane available to them. This was similar to the Virginia game, where you can tell right away that the opposing team was physically overwhelmed by us and aren’t skilled enough to overcome that discrepancy.

— I know Kadary missed some shots around the rim, but the guy worked his tail off today. The offensive rebounds early in the first half set the tone for the game (even if he missed the free throws)

— So I guess the Sim breakout is legit here. Looks completely different than the guy against New Mexico or Georgia. Totally different demeanor. His midrange is money. He can be an all-BE guy next year, but also lead us in scoring in big games.

— Don’t underestimate DePaul. They went into overtime against Providence, beat Wichita state. They’re unfortunately what the bottom five of the conference looks like. Our opponent on Friday lost to all three Atlantic Ten opponents in OOC. This is partially why we should win 15 games in conference play.

— Vince looked awful during his first run in the game. One thing I picked up on with my seats was, after that, he was *by far* the most communicative in defense. Easily the QB out there and did lead to a turnover or two. If I had to guess, this would be a separator between him and Prey at this stage.

— A little, just a little, worried about Scott getting the Glen Taylor treatment. Rick was clearly very frustrated at a missed defensive assignment and didn’t put him in for the rest of the half. He hasn’t shot the ball well in awhile. He may lose his starting spot if he doesn’t watch out.

— Dunlap could really use a big game. Hope Providence provides it. Arena really wanted him to hit one and he passed up the opportunity. Hope he’s alright.

All in all, this team is legit. I think it’s telling that we can beat a middle of the road BE team by almost 30 without shooting particularly well.

They deserve sky high expectations because they’re deep and really talented.
Color me impressed that you took train out there from Brooklyn…i have to try that…took me hour and forty to get there via Belt and Van Wyck

I know that Pitino has always been a proponent of the three point shot but this roster seems better suited shooting two pointers. Just about every player is going to shoot a much higher percentage shooting twos and will struggle to make more than thirty one or thirty two per cent shooting threes.
I wouldn’t expect them to stop shooting threes but most would be better off avoiding those threes in the early stages of the shot clock.
Coincidentally, I think RP recently talked about importance of mid range

Look at this screen by Maker. A couple things will be upgraded with coaching and experience, but look how wide his feet are apart. How do defend that? Clingan did it all year last year and it was was devastating.

Maker just moves in a way that is worlds better than Vince.

Funny I think that is his normal leg width…he was on low block for a FT w/1 leg on baseline and other on foul like LOL

I'm lucky to be right near Atlantic Ave/LIRR stop. I take that to Jamaica and then Q30. Takes a hour. If I did the MTA, it's about one and a half hours.
