DePaul, Tue., Dec. 17, 6:30p, Peacock

This is going to be the best team we’ve had in years. Low bar but it just feels different. The Big East is not great but this team will be a tough out against anyone. I don’t think they know yet how good they can be. There are some limiting factors. 3 point shooting comes to mind.

We *should * beat Providence but that’s the challenge. Winning on the ROAD is required. They seem ready and we are going to find out now,

I know that Pitino has always been a proponent of the three point shot but this roster seems better suited shooting two pointers. Just about every player is going to shoot a much higher percentage shooting twos and will struggle to make more than thirty one or thirty two per cent shooting threes.
I wouldn’t expect them to stop shooting threes but most would be better off avoiding those threes in the early stages of the shot clock.
They didn’t shoot too many 3 pointers against DePaul. I THINK P ITINO AGREES W YOU.

My son got to hang out in the friends and family room and asked Pitino if Ruben will be back next year. He said definitely. Not sure about Dunlap.
I like Dunlap playing some point on offense. Fans just need to get off his back for a few weeks. He passed on that open shot in the corner last night which is all the proof I need that he's reading these constant bashing posts and it's affecting him. Shooting is more mental than the rest of the game.

Guard the three, don't overhelp, fight over the screen not under, and don't get lost on the switch. They have shooters, that's it. We are far more athletic and we play faster...make the game your tempo, don't give up too many threes, win the game.

Happy to hear Smith will likely start, very much the right decision. Team is best with him on the floor.
Bingo.

Just don’t see KR as a disciplined, attentive defender.
He is such an asset on the edges of everything we do defensively. Passing lanes and shooting windows get shrunk significantly with him as a help defender. He always has his hands up. But yes, on the ball vs a quick guard he can get exposed.

One final thought on this game…Lefty hustled back, covered the lane, and then pointed to Maker’s man to show him where to go in transition defense as he went to his guy. Kind of crazy for a freshman to do that so nonchalantly.

I’m bullish on him next year.
I didn't watch the last nine minutes of the game, but really do think the fact they are skipping this HS class is a tell that Rick wants to prioritize retention as much as possible

He’s the smartest guy on the team
