DeBlasio trying to kill Cohen's purchase of Mets

I appeal to the mods to keep this post open in spite of it's political subject matter, since there's pretty much unanimous disdain for Diblasio. ;)
Up to the line, but not over it...yet. :)

DeBlasio might be the greatest politician in the history of this great country. He's the only one I've seen that can unify they left, right, and center on any topic... :silly:
Bill de Blowsio is a great politician also because despite being the worst of all time he got himself re-elected though that reasoning may be negated considering it was by NYC voters.

Hard to unseat an incumbent. He did just enough his first term to not F things up. When he was re-elected, the city was still doing great. The economy was strong and crime was still low. Also there was no real challenger. Considering all those factors, his chances of loosing were slim to none.

Panther, you're absolutely right. BUT as a Mets fan, I would take any jerk with big time $$ to save us. With the crazy dedicated fanbase, the market, the beautiful stadium, etc. this should be a perennial playoff team like the Braves. We spent big for 06 and came within a breath of the WS. Then Madoff wrecked the Wilpons and they got cheap. With them at the helm, we are a huge brand, major market team acting as a small market team. Never getting the big names regularly...just 1 a decade or so like Johan, Cespedes, etc. We should be getting the Harpers, Realmutos, Trouts of the world. We should be getting some of the best talent on the market on a regular basis. To do that we need $$ and Cohen is the only one with that wallet, warts and all. Many people at Cohen's level are dbags who have committed some type of fraud or cheated in some way. That's just part of the game once you get there it seems. Regardless, I just want to win consistently. To do that we need the mula.
So if Bernie Madoff had gotten out of prison and found $10B in cash in an old couch, you'd be fine with him outbidding Cohen and buying the Mets?
I can tell you this much, I'd definitely let Madoff build us a new arena and facilities :)
Please don't compare Cohen with Madoff. Madoff stole from his investors. Cohen's investors made lots of money and were happy campers. I want a guy who cares about the investors/fans to build the best product. As a Met fan, I am tired of waiting for a repeat of 1986.
Where did I compare the two? Just trying to determine if the previous poster has a limit on his not caring about who owns the team.

Oh, and not to get off topic, but if Cohen is guilty of the things being discussed these days then both he AND Madoff would be guilty of stealing Millions/Billions from unsuspecting rubes to enrich themselves and their friends.

That hedge fund guy is a total cheat and got away with it. Only because of fancy lawyering and the SEC and district attorney's unwilling to risk losing a court battle, did he get away with. I'd rather not reward that dude with giving him a such a public toy to flaunt. Sell the team to another billionaire.

Little Mike will be looking to spend more money somewhere , after the Election. Though , if DeBlasio really has clout on the Mets Sale , I doubt Big Bird and Bloomie share the same circles . Plus ,, maybe hizxoner is interested in the Mets for himself and his Wife? Isn’t 850 Million missing from the Department she was in charge of managing ?

I wouldn't say he got away with it. He paid almost two billion dollars in fines and whatever. I guess if Craig Carton can get another chance, so can this guy. BTW, I'm a Giants fan so I have no dog in this fight.

I don't care who they sell it to. Just not to a guy who was breaking the law and got away with it. I don't want to reward that kind of behaviour by allowing him to be the owner of such a public facing entity. Find another billionaire to buy the team.

After all that the tall goofy moron signed off on the deal. Cohen now officially owns the Mets

Really looking forward to having an adult back in charge of things.
Welcome back Joe Bi— I mean Sandy Alderson.

Just don't see the need to insult tall goofy morons.

IMO the Wilpons absolutely had to know that Madoff was doing something that wasn't kosher. The returns were to good to be true, and he Wilpons knew that. They're way to smart to not know. They didn't want to know or didn't care, so long as they kept making money with him. Hard to feel sorry for them and a lot of people that degenerate Madoff ripped off.

Basically DeBlssio shook him down 17.5 mill for city projects dramatic increase in nets fund doing this locally and salary restoration for workers. Honestly I don’t have a problem with that

You misspelled his name it's DeBlowsio and he'll probably direct the money to his wife to oversee the project which means the city will see little if any of it.

It's incredible that there is no outrage, no investigations either by authorities or investigative journalism. DeBlasio must feel bulletproof at this point, and likely with good reason.

Just think Boss Tweed and Carmine DeSapio. When did we learn outrage except from Daily News "Ford to City, Drop Dead."

These guys all feel invincible as they approach the finish line, if not before. Surprised the NY Post hasn't done more on his wife and the missing funds. They're the only local paper that would.

True.

Does DeBlasio even have a strong base of supporters. Except for the fact that AOC has much grander aspirations (along with a gigantic lack of ability) I would imagine she would smoke DeBlasio in primaries should she decide to run for mayor.
