DeBlasio trying to kill Cohen's purchase of Mets

Once again we have a case of a politician thinking he's smarter than a successful business owner. Never ever happen. Go head and cost the city millions more dollars trying stop this, just what this city needs right now.

You spelled the mayor's name wrong--its DeBozo! This is being done to the Mets by a A--hole Boston Red Sox fan. One good thing is that he is gone in one year. Let's see if he can get a real job instead of living off the taxpayers. (PS-I'm a Democrat and he is probably the worst Mayor I have seen and I go back to the wonderful ticket that I voted for in my first Mayoral election--Mailer/Breslin)

DeBlasio is a total failure as Mayor. It is a shame that in a city as great as New York, this is all we could come up with as Mayor.

Before reading this article, I had no idea who Cohen was. I find it unbelievable that eight people who worked for him could plead guilty or be convicted of insider trading and he can make a deal. This should have been a RICO case. I can't even fathom the amount of money they must have been making to pay a 1.8 billion dollar fine. This type of GREED is what is destroying our country right now. The real crime is that so called "white collar" criminals are allowed to walk free.

Now, if I have a friend working in Best Buy and he sells me a 60" inch TV but on the sales slip it says a 24" inch TV which is 1/3 of the price, we are both going to jail if we get busted. Talk about "Green Privilege", SMH..

On top of the stealing, these greedy individuals want tax breaks. The general public celebrates them as business tycoons, LMAO.

You can't make this SHIT up. DeBlasio the failure and Cohen the criminal going at each other. What is this world coming to???

Sounds like J-Rod have connections in the city to try to pull this off. They are angry about losing out. I'm pretty young, but this clown has to be the worst mayor in my lifetime. I bet there's a back door deal going on where J-Rod and their investors are having the clown mayor paid to attempt this.

Agree with this, DeBlasio was probably promised something and he is kissing JRod's ass. He is corrupt as can be. Can't wait for him and his wife to be gone from NYC politics.

Unfortunately, we've become accustomed to corruption at the highest levels of our society, so accustomed, we are numb to serious allegations of white collar crimes being committed. A long time ago, way before the internet, I maintained that all forms of media were merging into one. The people with the real power are the ones who control the messaging.

How many Mets fans would still want this deal to go through no matter how Cohen made his money? How many people wanted Pitino here? How many really don't care if someone is a sexual predator or rapist if it's someone they like? Or care if used a position of power to rake in millions?

Long before the U.S. is toppled as a world power, we will be finished as a society because of the things that no longer outrage us. We used to care about these things, Panther. Many of us still do care, but not enough of us, sadly.

Trust me Panther, I got no love for Cohen and his ilk. Bunch of greedy, immoral MFer's. But Diblasio is being selective in which former criminals he wants to continue to penalize. He'll push to release rapists and murderers from jail, but wants to prevent this guy from buying the Mets? He's never going to be able to better vet Cohen then the other MLB owners will. He should stay out of this unless he feels there's something illegal going on.

I have never seen a topic where I agree with all of the posters who are a diverse group.

DeBlasio is a clown and a crook. Steve Cohen is an extremely dishonest businessman and yes its a joke how little punishment white collar criminals receive. The Wilpons have to be some of the dumbest people alive or crooked as well. Rodriguez is a cheater who helped diminish the game of baseball. JLo is best known for being a sexy musician.

So here goes, as a Met fan I want Steve Cohen as our owner so we can buy some good players, technology, quants and scouts and win some games.

Panther, you're absolutely right. BUT as a Mets fan, I would take any jerk with big time $$ to save us. With the crazy dedicated fanbase, the market, the beautiful stadium, etc. this should be a perennial playoff team like the Braves. We spent big for 06 and came within a breath of the WS. Then Madoff wrecked the Wilpons and they got cheap. With them at the helm, we are a huge brand, major market team acting as a small market team. Never getting the big names regularly...just 1 a decade or so like Johan, Cespedes, etc. We should be getting the Harpers, Realmutos, Trouts of the world. We should be getting some of the best talent on the market on a regular basis. To do that we need $$ and Cohen is the only one with that wallet, warts and all. Many people at Cohen's level are dbags who have committed some type of fraud or cheated in some way. That's just part of the game once you get there it seems. Regardless, I just want to win consistently. To do that we need the mula.

I appeal to the mods to keep this post open in spite of it's political subject matter, since there's pretty much unanimous disdain for Diblasio. ;)

So if Bernie Madoff had gotten out of prison and found $10B in cash in an old couch, you'd be fine with him outbidding Cohen and buying the Mets?

Up to the line, but not over it...yet. :)

DeBlasio might be the greatest politician in the history of this great country. He's the only one I've seen that can unify they left, right, and center on any topic... :silly:

Please don't compare Cohen with Madoff. Madoff stole from his investors. Cohen's investors made lots of money and were happy campers. I want a guy who cares about the investors/fans to build the best product. As a Met fan, I am tired of waiting for a repeat of 1986.
