Dartmouth

I feel like we still got out rebounded by Dartmouth . We never ever box out I mean lavin should have practice for 2 weeks straight with just boxing out drills. Our team thinks they can always out jump people. Going for blocks all the time doesn't help our weak side rebounding which has been a problem all season.

Hopefully phill Greene can learn from this game and just stick to spot up shooting. Does phill even have an assit this year ? Watching him for the last three years it just been pull up jumper after pull up jumper . Phil makes no around him better , he never tries to take it to the hole always settles for that pull up jumper. It's sucks that Jamal is thinking way too much when he plays and can't take any minutes away from Phil. Hopefully Jordan starts playing defense with his feet so he can stay out of foul trouble.

Hopefully this win can build some type of confidence. Seton hall is a solid team, best 3 point shooting team in the big east , we never guard the 3 point line , lets pray for the win .

Back to basketball, I saw us play our usual matador/block style of defense
We get beat off the dribble and pray for a block at the hoop
We also played our stand still half court offense
The ball get passed around the perimeter of the defense but no players are permitted to move
Our season is about 60% over and we look no better than when the season started
I often wonder what goes on in practice everyday......

Hope you really do not feel Lavin and his staff do not teach basic rebounding? A coach can only do so much. At this stage every recruit has been playing for yrs under many coaches .The best teacher where of we all learned hard knocks was in the NY schoolyards . So please lets give coach a break

Dartmouth defended us the same way all teams have this year. Contest Harrison and give everyone else the outside shot. Harrison didn't force anything and Greene made shots without a defender within 8 ft. Jordan made a couple from outside and he looked like a decent outside shooter. Branch isn't contributing. If Jordan avoids foul trouble he has to play more minutes.
The foul shooting is much better than last year .

I thought Branch gave us some good minutes. He distributes well, although he is a bit turnover prone. My biggest concern is that he drives inside and always gets his shot blocked without drawing any contact. When Dlo drives, he finishes or gets fouled. The same with Jordan. As for Phil, if his comfort zone is the 10ft. pull up, then I'd rather him do that than do something he is not comfortable with.

I actually don't think we played bad defense last night. They hit a couple of lucky 3's, including the one to end the first half. We beat them by 14 and were up by 20 when the end of the bench was brought in. Without the lucky heaves, it would have been a total blowout. Granted, the score was closer in the first half than I would have liked, but it really wasn't much of a game.

First there were at least two calls in the first half that went st johns way that were definitely wrong as to who the ball went off. Second if we were playing a team in the BE we would have been down 10 points at least in the first half. Dartmouth essentially played us even in the first half and if not for those two mistaken calls could have been in the lead. So think twice before you talk about our defense. In fact I was in the car on the way home listening to the post game show and Keady was speaking. The announcer was talking about Jordan and how good he was on offense and Keady agreed and then said I wish he would do that on defense. So dont fool yourselves, even the coaching staff knows these kids cant play defense

If Coach Lavin and staff teach rebounding then why are we getting out rebounded every game?
Please explain.
What do you mean a coach can only do so much?
Their job is to coach and teach, first and foremost. And I mean basketball with life skills being secondary.
Give the coach a break, he got a break his first three seasons here, now is the time to perform at a high level IMHO.
I truly do not understand or agree with your post.

Your comment above is all that matters. Confidence is sorely lacking with these players. As for the Hall, that 3 point scenario is scary since last night our matadors allowed Dartmouth to shoot .60% from 3.
Don't be fooled by our 3 point shooting against a Dartmouth, it was a fluke as was Greene's game. We shot 35% inside the arc, including a few air balls, and could not dominate in rebounding against a low Ivy team. The most disturbing thing last night was the abysmal defense by Obekpa against inferior players. The team as a whole is one of the poorest defending SJU teams in recent memory. Poor footwork, easily faked, poor lateral movement, poor spacing between shooter and defender. If we had a defensive coordinator they should be fired.
The offense still appears improvised, even out of time outs.

You ever hear of Mikan drills?

Rebounding is not all about effort. Their is a technique to boxing out and proper spacing. Those things can and should be taught!

The "best teacher" will recognize a deficiency and work on it.

Whitesell supposedly developed good bigs in his past. Shouldn't Lavin task him to working with these guys?

The excuses need to stop.

If the players get suspended to teach them accountability, then what should happen to the coaches?

Dartmouth shouldn't have even been on our schedule, let alone during the middle of conference play. It wouldn't have mattered if we won by 50. Exhibiting solid fundamentals and winning BE games are all that matters at this point.

As I've said before God's Gift should play before Obepka. CO is in a funk, not smiling right now.

Does not need an explanation It was like when you were in school Some kids got the lesson immediately .,Some kids took longer but eventually got it then some survived but never really understood it
