D'angelo & Mo

Anyone else think he maybe D'Angelo turned a corner last night? He took the game over for this team, a lot like Hardy did last year when we needed him to. Hopefully he develops into that go-to guy we need. Based on last night, he's got the will to do it.

Maybe I'm reading too much into a performance against a bad team, but at least his confidence is high going into the BE.

Mo is just too damn good not to be more of a factor in games. Needs to become more of an offensive threat for this team. When he puts it altogether, it's going to be scary.

moe needs to be A LOTTT more aggressive in getting the ball and on the offensive side...he tends to get too tentative and can become quiet..he has too much talent for that i think!

Totally agree.

I do wonder if he is being coached to focus on rebounding and staying out of foul trouble and that takes away from offensive aggresiveness. For the current roster, that is just the reality of the situation, but hopefully he can open it up more next season and concentrate on attacking the rim.

Moe had a tough game, but that steal all but sealed it.

And he had three shots that touched every part of the rim and halfway down before rimming out.

Five minutes into the game I'm pretty sure neither had a shot attempt. That can't be the case I'm sorry.

A lot of this has to do with the way we run our offense. Against the zone Mo is often out top or high in the corner making passes. When he gets the ball there isn't much he can do except pass because they're right on him and he's too far away from the basket. Sometimes when he does get the ball in good position he hesitates for just a second allowing time for defenses to rotate or double him.

This is gonna take time because these guys are just newbies still learning the system. I do agree that Mo needs more touches and needs to assert himself earlier in games, but that'll come too.

Last night in the first half Mo was nearly invisible but part of that had to do with Gift getting off early. I also thought D'Angelo didn't get enough early chances, but he made up for it in that second half.

Your right about his positioning. He needs to be at the FT line when running our offense. Where we had JB32 a lot last year. Moe can be absolutely lethal from there.

Mo should be around the foul line with his hands up waiting for a pass against a zone. He can then drive, hit the 15 footer, on find someone for a 3 ball.

Totally agree.

Only thing is, the one time he was in that position last night, Dunlap didn't seem too happy about. Don't know what is logic is on that, though.

Not sure either. I was listening on the radio so I didnt even realize that happened.

It's not easy finding a player capable of doing all three things from the foul line, however Moe has the skills to succeed from the foul line. He should be able to pick up fouls with his speed to the basket.

All true and he will get better but those 2 missed FT's hurt. He's got to ( and I'm sure he will ) impose his will on the game, so that he is more of a determining factor for this team.

Brownlee from last years team had the skills to do the same

look for inconsistancy...he's a freshman. what you saw is a glimpse of how great he'll become.

Robert Kennedy used a quote from G. B. Shaw in his presidential campaign, "Others see what is and ask why, I dream what can be and ask why not."

I came away from last night's game wishing we had one more low post banger with good hands (Gathers we hope but I am impatient) so that Gift could float up to the foul line pulling defenders with him or keep hitting that little jumper and Moe could then run his defender off baseline picks with all his offensive skills. It's an offensive set designed for the weak spot in whining Jim's 2 - 3 zone but we're all allowed to dream.

Coach Dunlap expects more from Mo. Looked like things were said to him during haltime because when they came out, Mo looked disinterested. This is not the first time I've seen that look on Mo's face. I know he is young, but i hope he does not regress and I think that's where we miss Coach Lav. He is a great motivator.

The good cop bad cop dynamic is sorely missed.

YES! that's what this team is missing :p

Mo needs to be a lot more aggressive. He is playing a bit too soft. I would like to see him drive to the basket more often. Although these issues will come in time!
