D'Angelo Harrison Fan Club

Dlo is a streaky shooter. He takes the quick 3 early in the game to get into rhythm. If he's on early, then he will have a big game. Sometimes, it takes him a while to get going but his confidence never wanes. That's who he is and we have to live with it. I'm not sure why we complain so much about one of the best scorers in our league.

Because...bad shots cost us possessions.
..... bad shots costs us rebounds.
Because quick 3s make no sense to the rest of the offensive game plan (if there is one).
The problem is if this team requires him to be on early and have a big game then we are not a good "team"!
When he learns "when" to take his shot we will be a very good team.
The problem with our team is not Harrison's confidence....he has enough for the whole team, it is the confidence of Jordan, Sanchez and Hooper who have to become more aggressive and confident in themselves.
As a result of the over-confidence of D'Lo, his quick shots, driving instead of passing, etc., the rest of the team gets into the flow of the game later. Hence, our S L O W starts almost every game.

I don't agree. He came out of halftime against Syracuse and attacked the rim. That opened up the game for Jordan.

He's our leading scorer and best offensive player, for God's sake! Now he's responsible for a freshman coming along gradually, a big choosing to play on the perimeter and a designated shooter missing his threes? Come on!

Re-read! Not what I said!
There are many teams with a D'Lo who are the best scorer and offensive player. Many of those teams will lose all their big games. D'Lo is not an Austin Carr or a Pete Maravich or a Dwight Hardy or a Rick Mount, etc, etc, He needs the rest of the team to win games.

I'm not sure how else to interpret this. Help me out.

An ideal lead scorer gets you points efficiently. There are only so many of those guys out there. After them, at some point you have to make a determination if you want the points or the efficiency. I'll take the points. We have much better offensive balance this year, but I'm not interested in seeing what it would look like without Harrison. Having a guy who knows how to score the way he does is a luxury, and while it's certainly not going to break any efficiency records, his style helps the team in other ways. He's not a comfortable guard for opposing teams and the attention he draws opens things up for others. I see Jordan trending in that direction as well and when he gets there consistently it's going to be tough to keep both he and Harrison down in the same game.

I'm with you. We need the points, and we'll take the efficiency if we can get it. I also agree with those who point out that as others on the team continue to step up, teams will be leaving D'Lo alone. His shooting percentage will go up when he's not being keyed on all game long.

Do you really believe that Harrison's low shooting percentage is the result of defenses keying on him? Box and one? triangle and 2? Shots with multiple defenders draped all over him? I don't know. What sticks in my mind are wide open shots clanging off the rim, long threes, and forced shots. I'm super impressed with how he has controlled himself and stepped up into a leadership role. better shot selection is also a sign of maturity.

Just curious. If you knew exactly what you were going to get (his production to date) prior to Harrison coming here, would you have signed up for that or looked elsewhere? Thanks.

Actually, I believe that Harrison is immensely talented. I also think that compared to his talent, his first two seasons were duds. I wouldn't have signed up for 4 years of that, which I believe would not be successful campaigns for the Johnnies.

Part of his out of control behavior were profanity laced outburst against teammates for mistakes, and not trusting the talents of his teammates, hence forced shots and bad decisions. To clarify my position, I think that this season, along with controlling his outbursts, he is playing with fiery confidence, and emerging as THE team leader. Today's game (Youngstown) was another example of his maturity. He shot well, passed generously, and played hard on defense. No question he is stepping up to elite Big East guard status, and possibly on a national basis too. As I said, I'm now a huge fan.

Had my doubts before as to whether he could play in the league. With each passing game he removes a little more of my doubt.

harrison is still a nut lol. It was amusing yesterday when he kept his arms around the ball as the final seconds ran out, and refused to shake the hands of the other team. Unsportsmanlike, yes, but completely amusing. Nevertheless, hes definitely come a long way..As long as he keeps the whining to a minimum and continues to play team-oriented basketball, i'll be happy

I noticed that too but there were still about 15 seconds on the clock and I think Dlo was just still in game mode. He may have thought tye kid was going for the ball rather than shake his hand.

I just think he was hoping for another foul to pad his stats. After the whistle blew he went over to the end of the handshake line and did the right thing. He also told a ref the game was over with plenty of time left. He plays and practices with a smile on his face and his teammates do it too. They obviously respect him and defer to him when the game is on the line. I am so impressed with his knowledge of the game. No telling how good we can be this year. All our guys can hurt you and it's got to be tough to prepare for us. Go Redmen!!!

All I remember is like three years ago in an NBA game, a team had a game wrapped up and a player on the losing team went to go shake hands with the guy holding the ball running out the clock. They went to shake hands and the guy stole the ball and went in and dunked it. Maybe Harrison didn't want that to happen to him, that's the only explanation.

Precisely my point. I like the fact that he doesn't let his guard down until the horn sounds.

Nothing wrong with that

Merry Christmas Bobre. Here is a quote from Harrison himself about his suspension last year that kind of puts to rest what Lavin did

Quote by D-Lo from the ESPN article:

"It was hard to say at the beginning, but I thank [Steve Lavin] for suspending me," Harrison said. "He made me change a lot of things about myself. I came back a better person -- the guys see it, everybody sees it. I thank him for that, and I thank the guys for taking me back on the team."

Thanks for this quote. It's really hard not to like a kid who thinks like that. I know he's a work in progress, but when I see him flash a big smile on the court, which has been happening with frequency these days, you can see he's relaxed and having fun playing ball. With each game I am more convinced that he's a real asset to the program, and the turnaround in attitude has been remarkable.

Nice,

@StJohnsBBall: Congrats to D'Angelo Harrison, named @bigeastconf Player of the Week for the first time in his career! #SJUBB's newly-crowned 3-point champ!

OMG, did not realize it is his first! If he continues to play team ball and score like the last game he will be named multiple times this year.

Playing within himself, and trusting his teammates has a lot to do with his vast improvement over the last few games. Nobody ever doubted his effort or heart, and now the re-born Harrison appears to be playing under control and enjoying the hell out of his teammates, especially Sanchez. Sanchez now has a habit of continually brushing his chest after a basket and a foul as if to cool his fingers off. Harrison loved it, and was mimicking it a few times to himself as Sanchez stepped to the line to complete the dunk and foul three point play.

Congratulations to Harrison. We are coming together at the right time, with the Big East season looming.
