Dan Hurley UConn Roster assessment

Very interesting take on Sid Wilson. My guess is Hurley rides him hard and he either flourishes or transfers.

He gives an honest assessment of his players. Feels he needs to light a fire under Wilson. Should be interesting.

I keep watching the Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead hoping they explain what caused the illness that caused Yakwe to become a Zombie. So far they still haven't.

If he transfers, does he have to give the money back?

As I live in Europe I can´t access to that page.

What does he say about Yakwe and Wilson?[/quote]

Sid Wilson (Redshirt Freshman)
“I love to work with talents like Sid. He’s got a lot of layers to him, an interesting personality. One day he’s the best player, the next day you wonder if he’s hiding behind Dan [Brocke], the walk-on. Sid, right now, is the type of guy who is going to need a lot of coaching, tough love and standards because he has NBA talent. He’s 6-8, plays way above the rim, can put it on the floor, shoot 3’s, can guard any position. He just oozes talent, but sometimes when you have that type of talent you kind of coast, and with my coaching style that’s not a great fit. … He has as high a ceiling as Jalen.”

Kassoum Yakwe (Grad Transfer)
“He’s been out [with a foot injury], he should be back the end of next week. He brings a lot of value to our frontcourt because he’s an athletic shot-blocker. We play man-to-man pressure defense, our guards will occasionally get beat off the dribble, so it’s essential to me to have somebody that can affect shots at the rim, challenge shots, block shots, and Kassoum Yakwe was leading shot-blocker in the Big East as a freshman [with St. John’s]. He’s got to develop offensively.”

He seems real honest about both. Yakwe he pretty much said that he’s a shot-blocker and not much else, and that’s the Yakwe we know.

I actually loved reading these honest assessments from the coach, going a little beyond typical coach speak. The fact that he points out that Yakwe needs to develop an offensive, does that fall on the player or our staff?

I like Hurley a lot. He was the guy we should have gone after a few years ago. I can’t stand UConn landed him honestly.

He's going to give us agida.
And much of it will be do from what we fail to do.
Hurley is what he is: a consummate workaholic and a very very good coach.
Taking nada away from him.
He will rebuild UCONN.
The question is: Will Mullin rebuild St. John's?

Like missing out on Jay Wright we may rue the day.

Some will argue that Mullin will need to rebuild his own destruction of the program after the three worst consecutive seasons of the modern era. If, after 4 seasons, and with elite talent, you can't win.......you never will. Norm Roberts and Steve Lavin will be faded memories. The time is now. Defense and rebounding will be the key. Too bad we don't have a guru assistant to teach "ball-you-man".

When he took this job I'm sure he knew that anything less than a national championship is a failure.

Stop it, man. 99.5% of us on this Board would applaud and cheer a season--pick the 'record'--that got us into the Dance + 2 wins.
Anything more than that, we'd be dancing in the streets.

I could be wrong Chicago, but I read OLV72's post to be about Dan Hurley (thread Title), not Mullin.

K, if that's the case, I profusely apologize.

Yes, I think he meant Hurley also. The biggest optimist would not expect SJ to win a National championship!

It’s been bothering me for last hire or two: I wanted to see Hurley here. What hurts me more is that they could have paid me to be the search committee. I would have hired Hurley, taken the search committee money, and donated some back to SJU to thank myself for making a good decision...

I’m fine with Mullin if he does something here. The stubbornness to hire assistants, not wanting to answer to the AD, nepotism with Mitch nonsense all show terrible judgement in my eyes. I hope he wins. Hurley is off the table and gonna kill it for our enemy.

I support Mullin fully here and I think we have a beastly team. I’d you gave me the option of grabbing Hurley tomorrow I’d take it. We had several chances...

I feel better with Cragg here now though... SJU better keep him around.
