Dan Hurley Headed to URI

Ferry grew up a few blocks from me. Elmont hasn't had a good parade since Vinny Testaverde Day, so hopefully LIU wins it all.

Dan Hurley, Al Skinner, Bob Welsch & Jimmy Patsos all good options. Dont think Hurley would accept though

The older donors probably want Skinner back, but Welsch would be a good choice.

I agree about Hurley. He'll stay until a bigger job opens.

FWIW Skinner has been at their games all year

still dont think he goes. The local rag here on si constantly has quotes from him about how he doesnt want to move away from the family.

According to the local rag here on SI, looks like total compensation is upwards of 4 million. Can't blame him. The Wagner AD Hameline will look to see if his brother will stay on staff and take over.

screws over all the kids he just signed. How does he look his next set of parents in the eye and say I'll be there to take care if your boy. He will leave again if a better spot opens. I feel bad for the players. They are now locked into the school. A prime example of how the kids have no power and the ncaa protects the schools and coaches.

I hear you but that is not on Hurley or any other coach, it is the NCAA for not allowing kids to de-committ when the coach leaves. Theoretically then, a coach would have to stop recruiting at some point in his stay at a school in order to change jobs and prevent the situation you describe. The kids know the score and know it is part of the game, albeit an ugly and very unfair part.

yeah I understand. I would be pissed if I was a recent commit or parent of a commit, but I know its left of the business

I don't disagree with you that it is a VERY lousy part of a lousy business but if any parent or player was doing their due diligence they would know the chances were good that Hurley was leaving sooner rather than later. Most players at the mid to lower level of D1 know that there is a chance that they will not play their entire career for the coach that recruited them.

Update from ESPN Insider

However, Jeff Goodman feels that there is a "99 percent" chance that Bobby follows Danny to Rhode Island. Meanwhile, the New York Times is reporting Bobby will make the trek to the Atlantic 10 as well, so who could be considered next? Jon Rothstein of CBSSports.com tweets that the Seahawks' search "should stop with Cincinnati assistant Darren Savino," who "has been huge for the Bearcats."

Besides Savino, a few other coaches whose names might be connected to the Wagner opening are Jared Grasso (Iona) and Fordham's Van Macon. We also wonder if Matt Abdelmassih of Iowa State would be considered (even though he has only been an assistant in Ames for one season).
