Curbelo

Ok let's move on cuerbelo is not our problem any more and we'll at least Anderson had the brains to bench the problem wish Andre the best but moving on as this just pointed out what we all knew

Unfortunately, this has been Andre's history going back to high school.
A terrific baller but overly temperamental and lacking self discipline.

It's hard to believe how much has happened here in just 12 months. This time last year we were ecstatic at the addition of Curbelo, Jones, and incoming AJ Storr and expected a tourney team. The DR summer trip was an incredible success with Felipe hosting a reception for players, staff and families at his mountaintop villa. Our DR players were bursting w pride to show off their island to teammates.

Then it all fell apart.

Life of being a fan. Better days ahead. This time seems real.

---- so true and we have an HOF Coach which puts an
exclamation point on the reality of this years team.

I loved Pistol Pete not sure the relationship to this incident with Curbelo To Pete. Their talent level is insanely different. Pete didn't handle himself the way 'Belo does.

As others have said, I hope this guy gets help like I hope Huggins gets help. In my own family I have seen a 180 degree turnaround with the proper help. For all the potshots and critics out there, when confronting mental illness and addiction I say one thing: "Walk a mile in their shoes". Some people come into this World wired wrong and struggle their whole life.

Actually, you are correct, my quote does not relate in any way to Curbelo per se, none whatsoever; it was posted as it related to BOTE post ending with the general statement regarding the sadness of wasted talent and the need to augment that talent with hard work.

And my psychiatrist teaching partner's research on major mental illness and the work of Vincent Felitti, MD from UCSD and the ACES Research on addiction shows physical and sexual abuse in childhood and altered development of the hippocampal region of the brain is a major factor in later onset of these two life problems.

I absolutely say this is the first time anyone has used the word " hippocampal " on this site

I'd google it but I'm confident I'd probably still not undertand what it is yet I love seeing it in Fuscia's post. I just need to learn how to use it in a sentence with my friends from work

Al Schwartz aka Hippo Camp Al was a 300 lbs. big man here in the '20s I think.

Fuchsia, by "these two life problems" you mean addiction and mental illness? In many, if not most cases, these are co-morbidities and often hard to separate making treatment doubly difficult. {I'm looking for other big words to use just to get a laugh out of MJMJr.}

logen-I re-read your original post and now see clearly it had nothing to do with 'Belo and just all about how sad it is to see a talent go to waste. "getting by on talent alone" is never a good thing.

Look at Michael Jordan, a God-gifted talent for sure but the GOAT because of all the hard work and dedication he added on top of that talent. Mullin God given talent too, but no way he is a HoFer without all the hard work.

Mickey Mantle, if he took care of himself imagine what his numbers would have been. Since his numbers were so good anyway he is a perfect example of getting by on Talent Alone apropos of your Quote about Pistol Pete.

This you're going to hate.
It's so old it makes us look young.
How about smiles, for the longest word.
It has a mile between each S.
Or even a longer word, "And now a WORD from our sponser."

can we just stop with the cuerbelo conversation. it make me feel even worse for cuerbelo seeing some of the comments that are being made in here just saying

Or you can just not click on a thread titled Curbelo šŸ˜
says the one who replied to it. Point is cuerbelo has his issues no need to continue to burn the flame it doesn't help the kid at all. Those in glass houses should not throw stones

There's been multiple threads where you've tried to decide what people should stop talking about. It hasn't worked yet.

The mods review all posts. If we saw something we felt was contravening forum rules we would delete it.
I understand you may find the Curbelo thread offensive, to which you are entitled. I suggest you just avoid the thread. Your continually responding to the thread and making comments just increases its life span.

I have a cousin who was a straight arrow little boy who adored his dad, an SJU grad in the mid 60s. His dad died very young, when the boy was about 12. Kid went off the deep end. Drugs, alcohol, graffiti artist, got arrested as an occupant in a stolen car. Had a court mandated long stay in drug rehab. In his mid 20s he was a mess.

Then he got sober and something clicked. He went to st. Francis, got his degree, then an mba in Hofstra. Now he is in his 40s and a hospital administrator with a half dozen departments under him.

I spoke to him about it all a couple of years ago. I made all the excuses for him, about losing his dad at a young sge. He stopped me mid sentence, and said, "No! It was none of that. I was a jerk that's all"

Hopefully Curbelo will have a similar epiphany.

Oh yea, one last thing. He is a huge Johnnies fan, like his late dad. I'll try to get to some games with him this season.
