Crowd

I didn't feel that we were outnumbered by PC by much if at all. I sat in section 101 behind the Providence student section and it seemed that almost all of the PC fans were on that side of the court. They obviously had more to cheer about but when we had that run at the end we made more noise than them. I also noticed that there were a lot of SJU fans in the 200s. I think the problem was that our fans were much more spread out while they seemed to generally be in the same area.

Agree with you. I had spectacular seats at halfcourt in the 100s. They would have merely been just good, had I sat in row 17, but I moved all the way down to 7 (could have been six - the first row in that section, but I had 3/4 of the row to myself in 7.

Their fans did a nice job for the contingency they had, and I loved the school spirit when they cheered their ad. Their band is very good, and the kids were well behaved.

Based on an unscientific calculation, by walking the concourses, Creighton had the most fans, Nova next, then Georgetown and St. John's, the rest were a mixed bag, with PC, Xavier and DePaul pulling up the rear.

The PC fans got loud, and let's face it, until our furious comeback run, SJU fans had nothing to cheer about.

All in all, very good fans, in general, no fights, no near fights, no drunk obnoxious types, -- the crowds were fine, just a really disappointing result for us.

The Garden has definitely improved their beer selection, not great but much better than before.

I was in section 120- corner angle from the court opposite the PC bench.
I have to say that I felt that I was a lone voice in the wilderness shouting out that the Redmen box-out and the Friars players
miss or brick their free throws._ a lot of good that did.
I am sick of the excuses about our team's poor fan support!
Yeah, it would be great if the team was undefeated or definitively going to the NCAA but its not.
But I am not one those that has to have a perennial winner as a team to root for to necessitate showing-up and rooting for them. Hey, I am a Mets fan too!
Simply stated, I think that yesterday's atmosphere made somewhat of a mockery of the concept of St. John's being New York's team.
I am a longtime fan who has not given up hope that this team with its current coach and hopefully good recruits and improvements with current
members of the team can do good things going forward.

Seems to me that we 'old timers' are more passionate then the current students. NYC just has too much to distract the kids. Hopefully they can begin to cultivate future Johnnies fans from local high and intermediate schools.
Anyway, the "wait 'til next year" song is playing again.

One thing I can tell from reading this board (and this may be a way off observation) is that we have many older fans on here who were around for the glory days, but not many younger fans. Is it possible that this program in the past decade or so has NOT created new fans of the team? Have the younger students/kids failed to take interest because we've been irrelevant for so long? Once again, just an observation, and my reasoning could be way off.

100% correct and to be fair St.John's basketball is sort of looked at as a joke to my generation compared to what the "old timers" got to witness. I happen to be a younger fan but even I got to appreciate some type of success with Artest, Bootsy, Barkley, Hatten etc. But to tell a teenager who was born in the mid-late 90's to root for St. Johns isn't realistic. Trust me I've tried explaining to my friends the history behind SJU from the wonder five all the way up until the NCAA sanctions when we were playing with walk-ons. I have had friends come up to me and say they like watching st johns play since Lavin has gotten here. It's really gonna take 10+ years to reach that younger demographic though, that age group just hasn't seen St. John's have ANY success.

Pitt just knocked off North Carolina and with any luck Clemson would knock off Duke. Then tomorrow Greensboro could be a ghost town.
That would make me happy.

I went to both sessions yesterday. I was extremely disappointed with the number of St. John's fans in attendance. It was a big game and it sounded like there were more friar fans. Also, I can't believe how many Creighton fans were at the night session. Without them the night session would have been empty.

It was amazing seeing all the Creighton fans at the evening session...I was so down after our loss...I actually re-entered MSG, went to my seats and then decided to leave...

Our fan support was pathetic...in fact, at half time of the Johnnies game, a Nova fan asked us where were the Johnnies fans...embarassing

Umm this is NYC... one of THE most expensive places to live in the world. Most SJU fans have real jobs in international world leading companies, they are people that umm how do you say it... matter. I'm sorry if they were not able to fix around their busy high-stress work obligations to make a 2:30 game. I don't think people who live in Omaha and Rhode Island have the same obligations and have more free time on their hands.

You can make all the excuses you want...in a tournament with 10 teams, it doesn't take that many SJ supporters to stand out among the neutral fans...we should be able to bring enough support and we didn't...

Is there a more Jekyll and Hyde team in the country than UNC?

You're about to hear it again, Moose.... Gone the first weekend of the tournament. :ngrin:

I thought it was a very decent crowd for the afternoon secession. I was at the afternoon session the year before and their was less of a turnout;
I saw thousand upon thousands of empty seats at the AAC tournament and the ACC., in fact the ACC was terrible. For what it's worth.

I was trying to look up attendance figures for the the other tourneys today (no luck so far) especially given the announcement re: ACC to Brooklyn in 2017

Interesting I had a guy sitting in front of me yesterday who knew nothing and I mean nothing at SJU. Couldnt name a player on the team. But he was rooting his ass off for SJU more than most SJU season ticket holders I've seen.

It was probably 20 degrees in NYC, yesterday. He was just glad to be indoors.

You know, the thing is, we basically are the host team, and with new BE teams, like Butler, Xavier, and Creighton, we should have been there even to be ambassadors of our conference. I always try to chat the guys around me about their school, where they are from etc. To think that more people hopped on a plane from Creighton than people hopped on the subway or railroad is just pathetic. The BET has such a great atmosphere. To some extent, I am glad that UCONN and Syracuse are gone, because I hate both those schools and their arrogant fans. Pretty much the remaining schools are competitive but respectful of each other's fans, and having 4 school's fans in the building at once is kind of cool.

haha - have you ever been outside of NYC?

Pretty sure it was Chris Monasch.
