What happened to Rich F.?

Thought he was projected for 2 years here, then pro???

I dont see that happening.

Yea, and Orlando Sanchez was projected as a Utah Jazz starter before he put on an SJU uniform. Don't listen to "projections".

But speaking of Freud, I'd rather the minutes that Amar got last night went to RF. I'd rather a player with a chance to be a good player for us in the future get some time and experience.

Agree, Jack. It's clear that Freud is still learning the American college game and giving him some playing time on Wednesday night, especially when we were down by twenty two, would have been usefu, imho.

Amar is more of a physical presence that RF and I believe coach thought that was needed last night. Also, although not physically quick, Amar is better able, right now, to react to the speed of the game than RF is. RF might have been able to provide a bit more outside shooting if he was on.
maybe Amar just needs to read these posts to get a wake up call. In case he does:
* You are NOT a 3 point shooter
* You need to bang the boards, box out, and rebound underneath with your size
* You need to make GOOD fouls, and if you foul, don't let him convert
* You need to be active on offense and set screens with your big body, namely for Ponds, and Moose.
* You need to keep up your energy ( which you do have ).
Be blue collar

Freudenberg didn't play because of what Patton did to Germans the first time around. Couldn't risk it.

I made a mistake thinking Freudenberg could play a little stretch four this year. It became clear his abysmal shooting and slow play did not warrant anything. The game at this point is also just too fast for him in my opinion. Hopefully he gets stronger and develops in time. No one should complain about his playing time. He had his chances, but for now is out of his element.

I thought Derek Brown and Larry Wright would be stars. Happens to the best of us. :)
I still blame Norm for Wright however.

Actually thought same, especially Brown.

As you pointed out game is too fast right now for RF and HE KNOWS IT. I think that is why you see that weird hitch on his shot sometimes. Like he is worried it is going to get blocked. When guys are better athletes than you the tendency is to rush things.
RF needs to find gaps and get in good open spots. Once he figures that out than the question is will he be able to knockdown shots. He has good size and seems to jump ok. Needs to relax, plays smart, slow himself down, than most importantly knock down shots.
I have not given up on him, it was just clear he was not ready to help this season.

While it's true that the game is too fast for Freudenberg and he needs a year to adjust (and get stronger), I think he is still going to be a contributor this year.

And Larry Wright would have been just fine if Norm wasn't allergic to offense. In a weird way, Wright was to Norm what Darien Williams was to Mullin. The difference is Mullin figured out that a guy without a polished offensive game can still help you win by playing D and rebounding. Norm never figured out that scoring points helps you win.

Yup, knocking down shots is why he was recruited primarily.

My memory is hazy, but did a position shift to PG at some point in his career screw him up? I remember something like that happening and him never recovering.

Hurt his knee, sat out a year than Lopez was there so they tried to switch him to the point.

He also inexplicably adopted the high socks with long baggy shorts look that Geno would than later make famous.
That look has never worked for us

Thanks. I think having to focus on playmaking took away from other parts of his game, like dunking on people's heads. Not too many Class C Long Island players have made it to the big time, especially back then, but after seeing him dunk from the free throw line against Sewanhaka more than once, I expected big things.

He had the one game on CBS his Frosh year when Louie dusted him off for a struggling Sproling. Think he hit couple threes and threw down a nice dunk that got Clark Kellog all excited. I think he scored 14 points and I became the lead member of the Derek Brown fan club. Then Louie buried him again for rest of year as was his wont when it came to freshman. Had nice Soph year with David Cain.

I'm very upset that no one seemed very upset when Daryl Hill tore his knee up. He was tearing it up when he tore it up. He was never as good again as he was before he wasn't good because he was very better. But you guys just suck I think it is because Hill is from Queens and guys who grew up in cushy places on the North Shore can't relate. Maybe you guys just don't like queens but that's more acceptable now.
