@Creighton, Tue., Dec. 31, 4p, PEACOCK

Logen - sorry that I missed this when you posted it originally. I could not agree more. Great summary. And probably not too many words for BrookJersey :ROFLMAO:
Ah, BrookJersey maybe but what about the Judge?
Thank you for the positive reply, mucho appreciated

Not that it really matters after the fact but something we talked about on the podcast, and not sure if it was brought up here much...

Did you want a timeout called with 12 seconds left when they got the turnover on Ashworth for the last play? Given how the offense was playing in the game, should Rick have called a timeout to draw something up? Or are you ok with letting it play out?
I was fine with the no timeout. I would not have wanted Creighton to organize their defense and thought Luis's initial shot was a good look and one he often makes. Once he got the ball back again on the tap out he had an opportunity to put up a shot, instead of driving into traffic but chose to penetrate and try and draw a foul. Unfortunately, the Refs swallowed the whistle and we wound up with Deja Vu all over again at Creighton!

What’s the shot we want there that is not a wide open layup by anyone?
Against Creighton- down 1
- I want Zuby away from the Paint
- a foul line pull up (not fall away) - from either RJ / Kadary / Sim / Smith (says something that neither of them stand out enough just to list 1) with 4 seconds left
-crash the boards for a putback

Zuby set the screen outside the arc right? And RJs shot, contested as it was, was a mid range pull up by the first guy on your list.

Would it be impossible to get a better look then we got? Absolutely not. But I think there’s also a world where we end up with worse than RJ getting 2 pretttty good “looks” at it.

Didn't get to see the second half, so speaking without firsthand look, but I'd prefer RJ taking that shot to both Kadary & Smith.

Ya- I didn’t get to see the game Live- just the highlight of the last possession.

I have no issue with what went down- just wish Kalk wasn’t so tall lol

And that’s exactly why a time out was necessary. Pitino needed to remind his team that refs will traditionally swallow their whistles in such a situation and a good midrange shot is what would win in.

However, if Pitino called a time out and reminded his players that drawing a foul on a drive might be almost impossible, RJ may have just taken another midrange jumper and not try to induce a foul which again, was not called.

Exactly. There's nothing wrong with going strong to the basket down 1 in the bonus. If he misses the 2nd jumper the Monday morning quarterbacks are all writing he should have driven it. This despite the nonsense coach spews in the presser. He wanted a Zuby 3 down 1?
Just to clarify, during the post-game Pitino said ( in the prior timeout ) if they were down two he wanted the play for Zuby to take a three .

Yea but the drive was off an offensive rebound scramble situation with the clock ticking down, whatever the coach did or was gonna draw up is out the window at that point.

Well, he actually got a very good mid-range shot. I would argue that with a time-out you give Creighton a chance to organize their defense and Luis might not have gotten that first shot look. Once he got the tap out after his miss Luis went into the bull in the china shop mode. He does this because he is an emotional guy who feeds off his emotional energy. I am not really sure that a time-out would have altered his go to emotional response after getting the tap out with the clock running out.

Well to me it seems the entire ending was a shit show. In the press conference Pitino stated he wanted Zuby to take the shot and was upset he didn’t, which absolutely makes no sense at all. If there was a strategy at games end, Pitino should have had a contingency plan for when Ashworth missed the foul shot, which he did. There’s something really screwy here.

In addition after the first jumper, for some reason, he drifted out toward center court . This caused Luis to get the tap out deeper than he should have.

There was no missed foul shot Ashworth was stripped and turned it over .

McDermott doing a great job w this Creighton squad. Battled M’Q on road, but faded at end,
79 - 71 M’Q

McD > Shaka, but not LMF
