@Creighton, Tue., Dec. 31, 4p, PEACOCK

I know this will perceived as one of those cliched sky is falling posts after a close loss on the road that could have gone either way and I don't think the season is over or anything like that but this game has shown that we may be a good team but are well short of being a really good team. This Creighton team is ok at best and this is a game we should win.

It'll be easy to say we should be somewhat optimistic because we had a chance to win despite literally all of our best players playing poorly but they didn't just have off games. Creighton figured out how to make it difficult on us and our guys just didn't or couldn't respond.

The worst part is, the biggest flaw we have is not fixable and it's something we knew about in the summer but kind of hoped it wouldn't be a big deal. We have no shooting. Teams can clog the lane on us with impunity because nobody on our roster is a legitimate threat from 3. That would be a major problem for anybody but especially when our best players - Kadary, Smith, and Luis thrive when attacking the basket. Just not easy to be second weekend threat in the tournament in 2025 without being a good shooting team let alone a literally nonexistent one like we are.

To this point, it's pretty inarguable that Kadary has been a MASSIVE disappointment. The supposed number 1 player in the portal and potential All American looks like pre senior year Dom Pointer. For me it's now gone from "He'll pick it up and look the part soon" to thinking that time is just not going to come. It's not completely his fault either as this roster doesn't really complement him.

Sim is just clearly not ready for big situations like this. He looks great against the Fordhams and Delawares of the world but shrinks physically and mentally in real games. When the margins in games like this are so thin you can't have a guy like him getting big minutes without performing.

Depth is also a problem. There's just nobody beyond the top 6 you can put in there and trust to give you decent minutes. Glover gets lost on D frequently, Vince is obviously a massive drop off from Zuby, and obviously Rick doesn't just Prey yet for whatever reason.

Again I think we'll be a good team that makes the tournament reasonably comfortably and finishes in tier 1 or 1B in a weak Big East. But hard to see this team reaching the achievable ceiling we had for them going into the season.

Hold creighton to 57 points. Everyone would have said brilliant gameplan.

Pressing would have put a great shooting team at the line countless times and gave their shooters space. Could it have given us some life offensively? Sure. But we had our chance this way and didn’t get it done. For a bunch of different reasons.

Had the ball in our hands with a chance to win it. And had them completely out of rhythm to start the game. But of course we will be back to wondering what Pitino is doing
So you think Pitino prepared the team well for Kalkbrenner who outside of a few Ashworth 3s was their only threat??

also why not put zuby on the wing instead of the top of the key on every posotion. Put him on either the right or left wing and run isolation For Richmond or Luis on the left or right block. being at the top of the key enables K to stay in the middlle block shots and clog things up. makes no sense. when u can't make 3's and the other teml is playing pack line D u must isolate from the wing down

Last thoughts of the year.

Basically the same type of game as Providence. We won that one and lost this one.on last second shotsZ When you shoot this bad it's worth taking a few more 3's. The 2's weren't going in anyway. We should have pressed more. I would have taken a time out to set up a play.

I applaud the paragraphs but after an angry loss may I suggest 4 line spaces between each paragraph because I always like your posts and want to read them but I get so mind bending furious I can't read my own 1 line stuff :)

This team, right now is no where near a top 30 team. They can’t shoot period. Wilcher second game in a row against good competition has a very poor game. And please, don’t give me this home court advantage crap. Our players are superior athletes and talented. Creighton had a superior game plan and got the most out of their personal, the Johnnies, not so.

Three takeaways…

1. Georgetown who blew Creighton out will be a tough game.

2. At this point in time, this team looks no better then last years.

3. If you struggle with a weak PC team on the road without their best player, why would anyone think we could win this one.

Very disappointing.
Time for "machine gun/Uzi" aka rapid fire posting. We only see it after losses. I suspect your post count goes up by 10-15 in the next hour.

I think against some teams you can’t take everything away. And likewise against great players. He chose not to double him, their other perimeter players never got going and we held creighton under 60 points at home.

With all that. Kalk had 16 and 9. Below his scoring average.

my question is who is recruiting the talent basketball on both the college and pro side has been about the 3. Why can’t our guys hit it? If it’s transfers is Matt A looking at the talent?

Two so so teams battled it out today. They got Round 1. Hopefully we get Round 2 at our place when it matters even more.

The defense obviously wasn't the problem.

Two toss up games in the first two road games of conference play. But both of them felt like the more deserving team left with the win
