Quick note about Creighton and their scheduling.

They play at home against DePaul Friday night before turning around and flying to NY to play Sunday night.

They are due for an upset loss, and we are freaking due for a top 25 win. How long has it been? Norte Dame last year? Jeez

Go Redmen

That's exactly what I said in the providence thread , creighton is due for a loss and we will be the ones to do it!! St. John's for life !!!!!

While I don't buy into the "due for a..." mentality, I am very hopeful. Coach Lavin gets his guys up for big games, and this will be HUGE. MSG, #12 team in the country (#8 RPI), against the best player in the country.

The guys have 4-5 days to prepare specifically for Creighton while, Creighton only gets one day and even that is cut short by a long plane ride.

Hopefully Coach applies pressure all game and goes in with the same game plan as last time: give McDermott his. I'd like to see Dom on him. Maybe I'm crazy, but I could see SJU pulling away in this very easily if they keep the pace fast and apply pressure. Creighton doesn't like that (losses to SDSU and George Washington).

I expect 4,000+ Creighton fans.

15-9.

Do you really think 4,000 Creighton fans will make the trip? They can't have too many local alumni, can they?

I'm definitely not a weather man and was paying more attention to the crap today but I thought I heard on the news they said Sunday is not going to be as bad as they expected.
Sunday night games however are not good regardless.

You are correct Moose. Sunday night's storm is not going to be as bad as originally predicted. Now they're saying 3 to 6 inches. That's still enough however, combined with a Sunday night game, to keep a lot of our fans away. I am going to try my darnest to get there

We should have a few things going for us on Sunday night. We are playing well right now. Our backs are still against the wall so we're hungry. And Creighton knows they are fortunate to have that last win over us. We have to come out strong again and we'll be in good shape.

Without saying, this is a very dangerous game for us. McDermott will be in a showcase arena, and I'm not sure we have a strategy to slow him down. I don't think you stop a player like that, unless you have multiple guys who are physically his equal or superior, and they harass him without burning 10 fouls too quickly.

Any thoughts on who should guard McDermott? Pointer? Sampson? Sanchez? It has to be someone capable of hawking him on the perimeter that he won't beat to the basket. I'd definitely guard him by committee, and give him a lot of different looks. I would also toy with using Jordan for short bursts on him, as long as he gets a little help if he takes it to the hole. Hold McDermott to under 25 on poor shooting, and we have a good chance to win.

I think they should play this just like we did in Omaha. Take Wragge out of the game and let McDermott get his 30 pts. Even with his 38 we still would have won that game if not for the bogus charge call on Jordan

I thought the call on Jordan was bad also, but I don't know.. I'm never in favor of letting the other team's best player go off. I still wince at the Final Four, where Georgetown keyed on stopping Mullin and Berry any way possible, and let everyone else hurt them. They succeeded, no one else stepped up big time, and it was never a game. I'd rather shut down McDermott and take my chances.

The thing that GT did so well against Mcdermott was to beat him to his spots..The team should be studying his sweet spots, and make sure we beat him to his spots, especially down low..recognize the screens being set for him, and beat him to where he wants to go..

Deny, Deny, Deny. If you take a guy out of his comfort zone, only exceptional players won't force the issue and start taking bad shots.

Will be there with the fiance. She's just now recovering from the back pain experienced earlier in the season at the Carnesecca Arena game we were at.

I agree with that. This is one instance where I think Lavin actually out-strategized Jay Wright (who lost by almost 30 to them) and I don't know why we would deviate from that plan.
