Everyone is pissed off and negative at either Lavin is getting an extension or Lavin's future is in jeopardy. We have no say in either of these scenarios. If Lavin goes then I'll get behind the new coach. If he stays I'll hope he winds up with a great recruiting class and we continue to make progress and get better. (Insert negative comments here)
I am not happy with mediocre results so I am hoping whoever is running the program, they will make us Alumni proud. I am certainly in the minority but I am optimistic about our future. Maybe I have no reason to be optimistic but it beats being down on a team that just made the tournament.
Sure, the postseason has not been kind to SJ but I can remember when we were competing for a berth in the BE tournament not so long ago. I am sure that in October most of the members of this forum would have signed up for 20+ wins and a 9 seed in the tourney.
Signed,
Cautiously Optimistic
You have every right to be optimistic. I really try to make my case without knocking opposing opinions.
As for my opinion, there have been obvious signs (for over two years now) that we would not get over the hump and that we would be forced into a rebuilding situation. This was obvious to many of us who were promptly told to "just let it play out"
This is the reason people are upset. We DID let it play out. It DID turn out poorly. And here we are ready to sign-up for it again.
I appreciate your optimism......it is probably much healthier. However, you have to appreciate the other side. We're not climbing aboard so fast.
Alright I'm gonna wind the clocks back and go back to 9th grade optimistic Jack Williams.
What exactly turned out so poorly? This season? Because we made the tournament and it was a hell of a ride. Awesome year one I won't forget. If what you're referring too is his recruiting, he didn't do well in 14, we made the tournament anyway. Now it's time to build for the future. He actually got two pretty good guards in Samir and BSamp, and that was without the extension locked up.
Now that he has it I am hoping he can get a good point guard whether it be Lovett, Mussini, or randle. Get Diallo, and another forward, get sheed and CO and boom we have a team capable of having a good year.
Putting the Lavin in game coaching deficiencies aside (which I can't stand) extending him is not the end of the world. It really isn't. Bobby is going to DePaul. The other options weren't great.
I really don't mind it. I want to see my team play more organized ball, (nova fans here refer to SJU as a bunch of street ballers), but 3-4 more years of Lavin to see what he can do does not make me lose my mind.
I'm just gonna root for the guy, I started to back the change because I thought the change was coming. If it is not it is time we accept it and root for Lavin to nail this 2015 class. Let's go!!!
Jack! I thought you had come my way.....hate to lose you buddy.
What makes Lavin such a lightening rod is he teases the fan base with a few good recruits and the annual win streak in the middle of the conference schedule. There is also always something exciting that could "possibly" happen on the horizon. That said, he has a laundry list of deficiencies which is the reason that there will always be something that prevents us from being a top program.
I am absolutely stunned that people don't see we will suffer the same exact five year cycle, again.
Johnny ever hear the saying "Love is blind." They love him, why? I'm clueless
Don't love him. Trying to be positive. I'd rather support the program than give up on it like you are planning to do
Like I said, whoever is willing to deal with Lavins BS is a better person then me. I'm just not willing to deal with the Lavin bs anymore. It's that simple.
I don't even like Lavin that much but I think your exaggerating how bad he is
I can't stand the guy, now you got it?
Yeah, we get it. We get it.
