Come in off the edge...

If he lands Diallo and Mussini and convinces Jordan to stay, are you willing to live with him?

Actually, that might pacify me a bit.

Now, I ask you, what if Rysheed and CO leave and he does not land Diallo, Mussini or Papasaintjohns? Will you accept that we should have started over with someone who can coach and recruit?

Can I answer that?

Yes.

What a disaster that would be huh. Bet that's why he's getting extended, now if it backfires then SJU will fell mightily stupid

Everyone is pissed off and negative at either Lavin is getting an extension or Lavin's future is in jeopardy. We have no say in either of these scenarios. If Lavin goes then I'll get behind the new coach. If he stays I'll hope he winds up with a great recruiting class and we continue to make progress and get better. (Insert negative comments here)

I am not happy with mediocre results so I am hoping whoever is running the program, they will make us Alumni proud. I am certainly in the minority but I am optimistic about our future. Maybe I have no reason to be optimistic but it beats being down on a team that just made the tournament.

Sure, the postseason has not been kind to SJ but I can remember when we were competing for a berth in the BE tournament not so long ago. I am sure that in October most of the members of this forum would have signed up for 20+ wins and a 9 seed in the tourney.

What if Diallo don't come, Sampson is the only 4* recruit, what if no big man comes? Yeah, that would be a load of crap huh. We'll see very soon what happens.
Afff ffs why should he care, he's under no pressure to win. If I was Lavin I'd take the money and be all giddy too. SJU is just giving away money.

He's under no pressure to win? He took us to a place we've only been three times in the last 15 seasons (twice with him!) and the entire basketball world is waiting for a decision on whether or not he'll be back. Every thread the last 18 months has turned into a why Lavin should be fired discussion.

Truth be told, I'd like Miller or Hurley over Lavin and would prefer we went in that direction, but extending the man is not the end of the world. I know it seems impossible now, but we could end up being pretty decent next season if a few things go our way--regardless of who the coach is. You post about big men over and over...we've got a 6'9 235 pound promising freshman forward returning. We have a very skilled 7 footer with a season of practice under his belt that will likely become eligible. We may even get our starting center back with more maturity and several lessons learned.

... What makes Lavin such a lightening rod is he teases the fan base with a few good recruits and the annual win streak in the middle of the conference schedule. ...

"A few good recruits ..." Really? We hadn't had "a few good recruits" like Lavin brought in since Fran Fraschilla was here. Do you realize how long ago that was? (And regardless of how many of Lavin's didn't stick, most of Fran fared just as bad, if not worse.) And "the annual win streak in the middle of the conference schedule" that you so easily dismiss is something we hadn't seen since 2000.

Oh you're damn straight I keep posting over and nover about big men. Yeah we have Amar return, but he better be a force down low, and not just a foul machine next year. Will Adonis be eligible next year? Does anyone know what's up with him? And Obekpa??? I might get a warning but so be it. A big FU to him. He's a loser. Refused to go in vs. PC last year in the be conf, this year rather smoke pot then play in the ncaa tourny this year. I'm sick of that guy.

No big men and remember both games vs nova? or the SD St. game?????????
We better get some. Just 3 SGs??? lol

I guess we're just rehashing everything over and over. I understand the initial recruiting class was very strong. But, the problem people are having is accepting a total rebuild in year Six. And, without rose colored glasses, the rebuild looks more likely than not.

How could anyone forget about the Nova game? You literally post about it six times a day. Funny that team loaded with big men got destroyed by a pair of guards on NC State.

I agree with both of you on this but if we fired Lavin there's very little chance any of those players or Sampson and Samir would be here next year with the new coach. Unless we were going for a proven winner and willing to pay big for him, I'm not sure one can justify completely starting over.

I'd be happy to do that for a definite upgrade but not sure that's what we were going to get so I'll take my chances that Lavin can put a competitive roster in place for next year. If he doesn't get us in the tourney for the next 2-3 years he should be fired regardless of the extension. No one we replaced him with "cheaply" would have a chance to get us in the dance starting with nothing for at least 2 years anyway.

You defined the general feeling around here of most fans. "Good enough" is not good enough for most of us, but it's better than "not good enough", which is unacceptable. We don't want to live through one more failed coaching regime, and starting from scratch.

Everyone gets in the BE T now and all the heavyweights are gone save for Nova and G'town. If the last 2 place teams were left out of next years BE T and they went with the top 8 you can bet we would be left out ala Norm's years.

We might wind up in the basement next year and we might not. We don't know what players are coming next year. Butler was predicted in the bottom of the BE last year and they did pretty well. I think everyone is nervous that the Norm years are back. Every once in a while maybe we will have a down year and maybe once in a while we will have an amazing year. We are not Kentucky or UNC, although Kentucky almost did not make the tournament last year. Imagine that. And don't worry too much, the Calapari wake will someday be coming and putting an asterisk next to all of those Kentucky wins. See UMASS and Memphis final Fours.

You have every right to be optimistic. I really try to make my case without knocking opposing opinions.

As for my opinion, there have been obvious signs (for over two years now) that we would not get over the hump and that we would be forced into a rebuilding situation. This was obvious to many of us who were promptly told to "just let it play out"

This is the reason people are upset. We DID let it play out. It DID turn out poorly. And here we are ready to sign-up for it again.

I appreciate your optimism......it is probably much healthier. However, you have to appreciate the other side. We're not climbing aboard so fast.

Alright I'm gonna wind the clocks back and go back to 9th grade optimistic Jack Williams.

What exactly turned out so poorly? This season? Because we made the tournament and it was a hell of a ride. Awesome year one I won't forget. If what you're referring too is his recruiting, he didn't do well in 14, we made the tournament anyway. Now it's time to build for the future. He actually got two pretty good guards in Samir and BSamp, and that was without the extension locked up.

Now that he has it I am hoping he can get a good point guard whether it be Lovett, Mussini, or randle. Get Diallo, and another forward, get sheed and CO and boom we have a team capable of having a good year.

Putting the Lavin in game coaching deficiencies aside (which I can't stand) extending him is not the end of the world. It really isn't. Bobby is going to DePaul. The other options weren't great.

I really don't mind it. I want to see my team play more organized ball, (nova fans here refer to SJU as a bunch of street ballers), but 3-4 more years of Lavin to see what he can do does not make me lose my mind.

I'm just gonna root for the guy, I started to back the change because I thought the change was coming. If it is not it is time we accept it and root for Lavin to nail this 2015 class. Let's go!!!

Jack! I thought you had come my way.....hate to lose you buddy.

What makes Lavin such a lightening rod is he teases the fan base with a few good recruits and the annual win streak in the middle of the conference schedule. There is also always something exciting that could "possibly" happen on the horizon. That said, he has a laundry list of deficiencies which is the reason that there will always be something that prevents us from being a top program.

I am absolutely stunned that people don't see we will suffer the same exact five year cycle, again.

Johnny ever hear the saying "Love is blind." They love him, why? I'm clueless

Don't love him. Trying to be positive. I'd rather support the program than give up on it like you are planning to do

Like I said, whoever is willing to deal with Lavins BS is a better person then me. I'm just not willing to deal with the Lavin bs anymore. It's that simple.

What coach doesn't spew bs? DId you hear Wright after his loss? Lavin is nowhere near as bad as you make him out to be. But then again, your blind hatred of him prevents you from seeing any kind of positives in the man. You know what they say, "Hate is Blind."

Carry on.
