Everyone is pissed off and negative at either Lavin is getting an extension or Lavin's future is in jeopardy. We have no say in either of these scenarios. If Lavin goes then I'll get behind the new coach. If he stays I'll hope he winds up with a great recruiting class and we continue to make progress and get better. (Insert negative comments here)

I am not happy with mediocre results so I am hoping whoever is running the program, they will make us Alumni proud. I am certainly in the minority but I am optimistic about our future. Maybe I have no reason to be optimistic but it beats being down on a team that just made the tournament.

Sure, the postseason has not been kind to SJ but I can remember when we were competing for a berth in the BE tournament not so long ago. I am sure that in October most of the members of this forum would have signed up for 20+ wins and a 9 seed in the tourney.

You have every right to be optimistic. I really try to make my case without knocking opposing opinions.

As for my opinion, there have been obvious signs (for over two years now) that we would not get over the hump and that we would be forced into a rebuilding situation. This was obvious to many of us who were promptly told to "just let it play out"

This is the reason people are so upset. We DID let it play out. It DID turn out poorly. And here we are ready to sign-up for it again.

I appreciate your optimism......it is probably much healthier. However, you have to appreciate the other side. We're not climbing aboard so fast.

Nah, if it becomes official, then you won't see another post from me. So no worries simply.
If he is extended then SJU and Lavin deserve each other.

Everyone is so upset the guy who gave us two NCAA appearances in 5 years and multiple 20 win seasons is still our coach they are not even considering that maybe Lavin learns from his first 5 years and makes it to 3-4 NCAA appearances the next 5 years, starts winning a few games in BET and NCAA tourny and keeps this program rising and rising up as it has the past 5 years....

Come on guys, we are first and foremost fans of St.Johns, let's not have unreasonable expectations, and lets be realistic...approx 250 Div I teams did not get to even be in the big dance this past year...would you rather be one of those teams?

Im honestly not even that pro lavin, i just have reasonable expectations (probably bc i also follow a team that has not been in the big dance in 25 years and constantly has terrible losing seasons) the program is in much better shape than it was 5 years ago and even if next year is not the best, let's hope for at least 3 NCAA trips, 1 sweet 16 and a few BET wins in this extension period...that is reasonable progress over LAvs first "term" and i think we would all be happy with that...the best part is..it's very reasonable and this coach can get us there..lets be positive and see how it goes before crying and whining all day...

Alright I'm gonna wind the clocks back and go back to 9th grade optimistic Jack Williams.

What exactly turned out so poorly? This season? Because we made the tournament and it was a hell of a ride. Awesome year one I won't forget. If what you're referring too is his recruiting, he didn't do well in 14, we made the tournament anyway. Now it's time to build for the future. He actually got two pretty good guards in Samir and BSamp, and that was without the extension locked up.

Now that he has it I am hoping he can get a good point guard whether it be Lovett, Mussini, or randle. Get Diallo, and another forward, get sheed and CO and boom we have a team capable of having a good year.

Putting the Lavin in game coaching deficiencies aside (which I can't stand) extending him is not the end of the world. It really isn't. Bobby is going to DePaul. The other options weren't great.

I really don't mind it. I want to see my team play more organized ball, (nova fans here refer to SJU as a bunch of street ballers), but 3-4 more years of Lavin to see what he can do does not make me lose my mind.

I'm just gonna root for the guy, I started to back the change because I thought the change was coming. If it is not it is time we accept it and root for Lavin to nail this 2015 class. Let's go!!!

Honestly, if he does that with the embarrassing roster we will have next year........then I guess he is a good coach and I am wrong.

Just not sure you fully understand the roster mess he has created.

Everyone gets in the BE T now and all the heavyweights are gone save for Nova and G'town. If the last 2 place teams were left out of next years BE T and they went with the top 8 you can bet we would be left out ala Norm's years.

Jack! I thought you had come my way.....hate to lose you buddy.

What makes Lavin such a lightening rod is he teases the fan base with a few good recruits and the annual win streak in the middle of the conference schedule. There is also always something exciting that could "possibly" happen on the horizon. That said, he has a laundry list of deficiencies which is the reason that there will always be something that prevents us from being a top program.

I am absolutely stunned that people don't see we will suffer the same exact five year cycle, again.

Just when I was having a hard time coming up with a "What so good about a Lavin extension?" list.

Nooooooooooooooooo SJU admin please cease all talks with Lavs!!! someone on Redmen.com has threatened not to post anymore if Lavs is extended.

Everyone complains about the attendance right? Well lets all see how the attendance will be next year. The same, better, or worse. For some reason I'm betting worse.
And that's if Lavin is extanded.

If he lands Diallo and Mussini and convinces Jordan to stay, are you willing to live with him?

Actually, that might pacify me a bit.

Now, I ask you, what if Rysheed and CO leave and he does not land Diallo, Mussini or Papasaintjohns? Will you accept that we should have started over with someone who can coach and recruit?
