Coaching Staff

Remember Andy Endfeild he was the coach who took Florida Gulf Coast to the sweet 16 years ago? His system was labeled "dunk city".

He was the hottest coach in the country after that run. USC Trojans hired him after Kevin O'Neil ran that program into the ground. The AD was quoted as saying "we didn't even have PAC 12 caliber players when Andy came in". Sound Familiar?
Here's his record:
12-20
12-21
21-12 NCAA apearence 15 seed.
7-0 to start this season

It took him a couple of years to find the players too fit his system . And thAts a school with an endless budget top notch facilities.
Good friend of mine is USC grad . A lot their fan base wanted him out after year 2. They just gave him a 2 year extension.
I still think year 3 is the time too make a fair assement of Mullin & staff.

Correct. There are a million examples of how programs in better shape than ours when Coach took over took time to become solid, year-in, year-out squads. If you think this losing bother us, how do you think Coach Mullin feels? I still believe that someone who has his basketball mind and wants to win here as much as anyone will find a way to get the job done.

Don't see any reason for people to be critical of players/coaching staff. First it was the defense that was a major concern, 1 week later it's the offense.

Some of us were hopeful the team would exceed expectations this season but in reality whether or not that happens is absolutely irrelevant. It took Jay Wright 4 years to get to the NCAA tournament at Nova I believe. This staff is in it for the long haul, and have a plan to build the program 1 recruiting class at a time for sustained success. Anyone who has their doubts this early is over-reactionary IMO.

as far as the other comments we are currently like an 8th grade team playing in the h.s. varsity league. We have ZERO upper classmen and we play that way. The fact that we've held leads and regained 2nd half leads against good, well coached teams, is not luck. It is lunacy or heavy holiday drinking, to write off the coaching staff at this point.

Exactly, as Seth Davis said," We need a graduate player being we are so young."

Truth be told. Still too early to judge staff one way or another.

Not necessarily Rich. Just look at their porous defense, especially allowing the guards to penetrate and shoot from 3 feet out.. And as far as x & o's we look like a freelance and school yard offense.

Absolutely amazing we hung with 4 pretty good (not great) teams with just an abysmal team and coaching staff. Dumb luck?? No offense or defense, how did we possibly do it?

You absolutely nailed it; great post

Michigan State, VCU and ODU. Agree good teams but probably will not finish in top 25.

I am not sure if this staff knows what it is doing. Last year Mullin said he wanted his team to be best conditioned team in the country. Not true so far this year. Players seem to be clueless on D and selfish on offense.

Again, so with a clueless staff and players we hung in 4 games with potential NCAA teams? You must think we should be a round of 32 team or better, be real.

We are young and outside of Lovett and Ponds the players were overrated by most on these boards, I don't blame Mullin and even if it was his fault I probably wouldn't post that. Next year if we don't make improvements then people can bitch if they so choose to.
But we get it, you heart Chris Mullin. I do to but even yours truly who enjoys to beat a dead horse from time to time does not feel the need to respond to every person who blames Mullin in even the most obscure way.
Spend some of your posting energy defending Lovett. I can use the help.

Knight what does seemingly clueless on D and being selfish on offence have to do with the staffs desire to have the best conditioned team in the country ? You seem to be confusing things.

Before the team headed for the Bahamas I was ecstatic about the direction of the program. Today, I feel exactly the same way.

These were intended to be 3 observations. All of which I believe to be true, to date. Team wore down from the first game played in the Bahamas. Announcers commented on that too.

:-& How could we get out rebounded 54-34, when we supposedly have great athletes who could almost fly ? Why do we have two coaches in the huddle and assistant doing most of the talking ? Why was Ponds our leading rebounding ,only 6 foot tall ? Where do we go from here ? I lost hope,it looks like another long season . Chris take charge, only one coach sitting in the huddle. Show them how your sweating and frustrated when they are not doing well . Rebounding is basic , one and done , get upset when they are not playing basic basketball . Assistant coaches are there to help you and you should be in charge . Do not let a assistant draw plays in the huddle. That is like a private telling a general , let' s take that hill .Could you imagine Patton letting one of his assistants mapping the plan of attack. You have to lead or lose respect .

In the ODU game there were a lot of long rebounds. Our bigs have poor positioning. We can now blame Zendon Hamilton for that. ;) The kid is still drawing up plays because it rumored Mullin can't read nor write. Slice wanted a chance to draw up some plays and Mullin said "no, that's the kid's job". Slice left as a result. A smart General never really leads the charge. He sacrifices his assistant coaches. Where do we go from here? We beat the crap out of Delaware State and Owens and Yakwe block 6 shots each and we start preparing to defeat Syracuse who were beaten today by South Carolina in Brooklyn. So much for being New York's team. :)

Seriously, show me a post where I defended Mullin other than to say he needs time to show what he can or can't do, period. My jury is still out until AT LEAST 20 games into this season and even that will be first impressions. As for LoVett, you were the one sizing him up for his bust in the HOF after 3 games not me. He needs to play more like a real point guard; but he is a freshman and gets at least this year before I will offer an opinion on him other than to say he has real ability. Finally, I don't tell you what to post or not post and I expect the same. Skip my posts if you don't like them.
