Coaching Changes

Yes he was fired after making the NCAA T but his lack of recruiting the last few years and the miss on Briscoe who was the key to a big class was a big factor or at least should have been.

Lavin speaking with Doug Gottlieb on CBS Sports Network a few minutes ago:

If there is a position where he could he successful and it would be a good fit he would be interested.

Had some very positive things to say about Mullin

Said getting fired after making the NCAA's was tough.

I heard if there was a position where he did not have to recruit or show up for practice, he would be interested.

Rex Walters out at San Fran. Lav suggestions in 5 seconds :)

His dad is in the USF HOF. I can actually see him taking this job -- in his mind continuing his dad's legacy and being close to his mom for a few years. Great food in San Francisco, and for his wife a short flight to LA.

USF can pay a decent salary, but I'm not sure they will. Aside from cute girls and a centralized location, It is a tough sell -- there is no real campus, and mid-major-level kids in Northern California have a lot of other options.

TV will always be there for him, so I can see Lavin really thinking hard about it.

He will definitely dazzle in the interview when they compare him to Rex Walters, who is a huuuuugggggeeee asshole. Should have fired him years ago.

Aside from the obvious criticisms always felt that the disconnect with our fans was in part due to the fact that Lavin is a west coast type of guy. USF right locale for him.but the lights arent bright enough nor will the $$ be in the announcer range

How much is he making as an announcer? I know it's decent amount, but I didn't think it was so huge that he'd be nutty to walk away from it.

He's definitely a West Coast type of guy. Unfortunately, SF is not the place it was when he last lived there. He may not like the vibe anymore.

USF should just give the job to Frank Allocco to see if he can hack it. Sucks that he left a great high school job less than a year ago for USF.

Jordan out at Rutgers. Well, that didn't last long did it?

Except for the fact that he had a disconnect with the UCLA fans as well. He ought try his hand at middle-America next. Maybe Iowa, ya know the place were Prof Harold Hill plied his trade ;).

UCLA fans, like ours, are living in the past. Only Final Fours and championship banners count there. We'd have gladly accepted his UCLA success here, which would have been unprecedented for us.

Exactly. They made the sweet sixteen last year and their fans act like the program is in shambles. At this rate I'd offer a lifetime contract to any coach who can get us a tournament win let alone a sweet sixteen

There probably is a web reference to his salary, but it had to be solidly 7 figures that he used as fodder to get SJU to commit $2 million per year.

not surprised. hard to compete in the big 10.

Forget about the Big 10 -- his teams couldn't compete in most mid-major programs. Thought he'd get a fourth year, but the program is in shambles, recruiting has been awful, and the natives were getting very restless.

New AD was recently hired and is cleaning house - football and men's basketball
Both programs desperately needed a change in leadership

Speaking of ADs when do we hire one?

And speaking of ADs, I saw Chris Monasch at last night's game. Sitting by himself, looking as orange as ever.
