I have no idea why TJ Otzelberger isn't getting more run at Kentucky now that Drew is out. Took an Iowa State team that went 2-22 the year before and turned them into an NCAA Tournament team immediately. Had NIT talent this year and got them a 2 seed. Dude would win big there

Assuming Donovan is really not interested, it is going to be Pearl or TJ IMO. And I think both have compelling cases.

I said TJ a few days ago. He has a HUGE buyout. But it is clear they are targeting other people before him.

But it may come down to him.

It’s nice to know even Blue Bloods can fumble a coaching search (unless they have Donovan in the bag and they just have to wait 10 days). I was worried it was only us and Tennessee football.

As for Pitino, at least 3 other Big East coaches (After Hurley has anlready declined) only would have to pass before he got a call. So nothing to worry/get excited about (depending on your view of CRP)

Not nearly as confident as you are that there’s 4 coaches currently in the BE kentucky would rather have than Pitino.

Hurley, Smart, McDermott, and for some reason Miller - but I’m not privy to anything except what is available on the Lexington Herald.

I think UK fans especially long timers may have a different order.

I also think there is a group of basketball fans that would have loved a Pitino reunion in either UK or UL just for the giggles/carnage.

Texas was too much for Shaka. McDermott has one elite 8 (I’d choose him to be our coach for the next 1000 years fwiw).

Miller has more success at big time program than either of them.

If you think UK fans would want Smart or McDermott over Rick then you don't understand UK fans.

Rick's age and the fact that the SJU job provides him with the perfect ending to his coaching career is why he is not leaving SJU.

But only 1 coach in the BE showed the ability to handle the UK job and not just handle it but thrive. That is Rick Pitino. Pitino's name does not get mentioned simply because he is a Hall of Famer but because he has demonstrated that unique ability to handle that job.

Correct. I think Smart and McDermott are both good coaches but Shaka was pushed out at Texas and McDermott went running from Iowa St back when Creighton was still in the Missouri Valley.

But both are more worthy of a call more than Miller let alone Pitino who absolutely killed at both Kentucky and Louisville?

I said those coaches would get calls before Pitino. I said the fans would have a different order. Fans rarely get to make the hire, even if the fan is Mike Repole.
