Coach K To Miss 4 Weeks - Back Surgery

It never ends;

NCAA: Selection Committee will take Coach K's absence into account for NCAA Tournament seed. STORY @FanRagSports: http://bit.ly/2j13015

Add another example to the list of reasons that people (including me) can't stand Duke.

.....and UNC for that matter.

UNC engaged in mass academic fraud and nothing has happened to them. How is that relevant to Duke?

People here are acting like 1) Coach K has a bad team this year and might want to miss the season (very false) and/or 2) somehow this is similar to UNC or Lville (let's throw in Cuse in there too) where the NCAA doesn't deal with infractions properly OR takes into account missed games due to suspension rather than....health.

In 35+ years the man has had 2 in-season operations, and this is some sort of conspiracy? Wow...

I took the line about not having a good team as a joke or "tongue in cheek" reference to the last time this happened when he had a "horrible" team and did not come back after surgery. Same for the comments regarding him not expecting to win many games over the next month.(he has a very talented team).

As for as the post regarding "this is one of the reason I hate (or dislike Duke) ", the posting responded to the comment about the Selection Committee taken into account the fact that Coach K missed games. That is more in line with the perception that certain programs always get the benefit of the doubt. This does not necessarily relate to violations or misconduct, either proven or alleged by other programs mentioned (Ville, UNC and Cuse) who many feel get preferential treatment in the media, on the court and in some cases, the NCAA itself.

You could be right, and my bad if so, but between Grayson's indefinite suspension and their recent loss to VT without him, I thought the implication was that he'd miss the month riding out a less than stellar performance while Grayson sits out, Giles still acclimating, etc.

I just hate any comparison which suggests similarities between Duke and UNC...

They are both in North Carolina :)

I took it to mean he didn't want to personally take responsibility for reinstating Allen after only 1 or 2 games. Let the interim coach do that and stay away a couple weeks for plausible deniability.

What'd I tell you. ;)

But he can't deny it as he is the one who reinstated him and he did it prior to taking his leave of absence.

Damn, I thought he started his leave after last weekends game. The first article I read which was probably rushed out did not mention whose decision it was to reinstate him nor did it remind me that K hadn't started his leave yet. Oh well.

PS indefinite isn't a very long time apparently but who's surprised, especially given the fact that K is taking this leave due to issues with his spine.

Indefinite by definition is undetermined. In addition to the suspension, his captaincy was stripped from him. Finally, coach k probably wanted any heat for bringing back Grayson to be on him rather than capel so today was the only day he could do it. I am sure he was motivated in part by not wanting capel to have to coach without their best upperclassman but whatever.

The guy tripped someone - in none of the cases did anyone get remotely hurt - it's a bitch move but you don't see Kerr suspending draymond green for similar bitch moves. I'm more disappointed with the sobfest that followed rather than taking it like a man and saying he's disappointed in himself and needs to grow up without the tears flowing.

Cank't really disagree with anything you said. Not sure if you've seen this.

Tripping people intentionally has no place in college sports.

That no one got hurt is just luck. Some of us would quit on SJU bb if we had a player do what Allen did and only had a one game suspension. Wins do not justify dirty play

Oh I'm consistent with my teams. I am still a huge Ron artest fan. Sir dom decking someone in a game didn't deter me at all for rooting for him.

But let me guess you stopped rooting for both right? ::eye roll::

If one of our players did what Grayson did, it wouldn't be national news. Unlikely anyone would remember that it happened twice last year besides us. And we'd all support the guy.

We agree 100 percent. Neither does punching someone out. Neither does going into the stands with fans. Neither does lots of stuff that basketball players do over the course of their careers. The kid is not good enough to consistently be cheap like this and have a long nba career so hopefully he matures. But let's not act like he is the first player ever to take cheap shots three times over the course of a year and not get significantly punished for it (and stripping of us captaincy is fairly significant in my opinion).

Thanks for sharing and actually know Mike so glad to see you are reading him.

Who knows all the things that went into the decision but tops on any duke supporters mind has nothing to do w Grayson but that this is a perfect showcase for Jeff capel to see if he really deserves to be the heir apparent (he doesn't but if it is going to go to a former player than maybe he does).

How much is the Duke captaincy worth nowadays? ;)

Jay Williams calls out Coach K, ACC for mishandling of Grayson Allen's suspension. http://cbsprt.co/2j0db2x

What's more shocking than a former Duke player criticizing Coach K, is the fact that an ESPN analyst is criticizing Coach K. I saw one of the ESPN Duke lapdogs, Jay Bilas, being interviewed on Mike & Mike on Thursday. And Bilas emphasized how the ACC reprimanded Allen and how big a deal it was to receive a reprimand. Even Mike & Mike were laughing about that after their interview with Bilas was over. But they didn't have the cajones to challenge Bilas on that when they were actually speaking to him. ESPN has become such a joke.

Posters here are jealous of Coach K's success for so many years.

It's unbecoming.

Like Mike Francesa says of Boomer and Carton....:

"de'er just jealous dat's all, I put food on their tables, and dats da trooth, and der still jealous"

Jealous of his success? I don't think so. That's the Duke fanatic's response. I object to the dual standards that the NCAA has when it comes to enforcement. There's one set of rules for Duke, UNC, Kentucky, Louisville and then the more stringent rules for the rest of the country. It's not a matter of jealousy; it's a matter of fairness.
