Coach Anderson
Anderson seems higher on Champagnie than I maybe thought. Would love him to be a local diamond in the rough for us.
This kid is destined to rise to the top.

In the NY Post?

SS & G, it will be in the Post, but Paultz advised will now be in Monday's edition.

Hurley has a pedigree in his name but neither he nor his brother have done anything yet as coaches. Mike Anderson is more meat and potatoes with an excellent resume’. I think we made a great hire. It will take Mike a few years to land a roster that he can really do damage with, but I don’t think he has the same flaws as some of our past hires. We have a strong staff and a coach who has had success at multiple spots. Recruiting will certainly determine our ceiling over coming years. Now time to sit back and let em work and see what they can do.
I'm a big CMA fan and this is a mutually exclusive topic, but is nothing strong re: Hurley's?

Danny took over a Wagner team that was 5-26 the year prior to 25-6 in his 2nd season. The 25 wins is a record in 47 seasons of Wagner hoops. Took Rhody to their first NCAAT in 20 years, as an 11 seed handled Creighton in Round 1 and came within 3 points of beating Oregon (who went to the Final 4) and getting to Sweet 16. Beat Oklahoma and lost to Duke the following year who went to the Elite 8. Has 3 Top 100s coming in his first year at UConn. That's a lot for 9 seasons as a college coach, and seems he's trending up.

Bobby less proven but took Buffalo to their first ever NCAAT in his 2nd season. He took ASU - which has a far worse basketball history of success than I'd have imagined when we were allegedly pursuing Bobby, and I wasn't expecting much - to back to back NCAAT's for the first time since the 79-80 / 80-81 seasons. If he makes it 3 straight this year it's something the program hasn't done in over 50 years since 1962-1965. I'm far less sold on him than Danny, but again for 6 years as a college coach tough to argue with.

Apologies if I'm reading too much into that, just that I'd certainly take at SJU what the Hurley's have done in limited time (whether it's them or any other coach who does it)!

They’ve done a decent job. Danny better than Bobby thus far, but the accolades are out of proportion at this point. A guy like Anderson seemingly gets very little press at all but has a very strong resume. The bloom falls off the rose when they don’t start advancing in the tourney. It happens to all coaches over time. Was just saying that the sexier names like both Hurley’s, while nice young careers, aren’t necessarily hitting any big marks just yet. Lots of value in a guy like CMA with a long standing solid record and has also advanced pretty far several times. I’m hoping that Mike Anderson’s best and longest run, is with SJU. He looks energized and I think maybe knows what has eluded him on prior stops.

Agree and well said. I don't even think they are comparable at this point (and I wasn't trying to compare them), as you noted CMA a veteran with a long track record and the Hurley's varying degrees of up and coming, particularly in the high-major context.

Just wanted to highlight that for such an early point in their careers the Hurley's have done quite well, difficult to do much better. Personally think Danny is on his way to reaching the coaching elite, unfortunately including at UConn, he's that good and committed. Although thankfully I don't think UConn will be his last stop.

Separate topic however, none of this impacts CMA who I'm thrilled is at SJU.
