Coach Anderson
Anderson is a coach. Plain and simple.
Our last two 'coaches' weren't coaches. One was a former legend who played the game at the highest level in hopes of it translating to the sidelines. The other was a wordsman who can charm the pants off anyone and brought in high level talent albeit with question marks.

If you want to say Norm was last true coach you can. Some will some won't. However he was a first time coach and cleaning up a true disaster. We can keep going further back and debating who was the last true SJU basketball coach. Bottom line is we have a true basketball coach for the first time in 10 years. That should cure many ills we had over the last decade.
Good post...let's hope he can recruit well soon, because I know myself and others are thinking: we used to have a snake oil salesman but not a coach and we used to have a HOF player but not a coach and hopefully now we don't have someone who is a coach but not a salesman. It's kind of like when we have great guards but no bigs...if we get a great big we all know we won't have guards lol...don't mean this in a negative way just saying that's how things seem to go unfortunately. Hopefully the assistants can do most of the heavy lifting recruiting and CMA can simply close. I think he will bring in more professional, all-business type players since he simply won't tolerate the me first, diva type players. All we can do is hope.

Mike Anderson on if they plan to fill open scholarship: “We’re not done recruiting.” Said it would “preferably” be a big. #sjubb

Good to hear

Zach at practice

NC State transfer Ian Steere stood out to me. Big physical kid who is a better athlete than I realized. Can really finish at rim. #sjubb

Mike Anderson controls his practice. There’s no doubt about that. Engaged and hands on. #sjubb

Seems to be a straight shooter. I like that and NYC likes that. Remember Lavin acting like everything was so amazing and life changing? Remember Mullin basically giving the same answers and avoiding questions? It's refreshing to see CMA admit that some players need some work specifically on defense and he pretty much implied in the nicest way possible that we are probably not going to be ready yet with the pieces we have which is true obviously. I'd much rather hear that than "we are the youngest blah blah" or other excuses instead of just being honest. Sure, his straight shooting will turn off certain recruits who want to be treated like a superstar from day 1, but he will get HIS guys and he seems like he will make them truly commit to the program and the mindset which is what you see guys like Wright and Cooley doing. CMA seems to be much more involved with the basics including practice than Lavin or Mullin. This helps to build trust and players see that you really care. No more 27 year old assistants running the drills. We have a guy who is almost 60 with tons of experience at Mizzou and Arkansas, legitimate brands who have had some success, taking charge of things. I just pray DeMeo and Van Macon can get us some stud recruits and some real bigs, because if they can I really trust CMA to coach them up and by the time they're upperclassmen we may be in for a treat. Still a bit annoyed that we didn't get Hsu, because he seems like a monster who just knows how to get studs to programs and he already brought one to DePaul. DeMeo has not brought anyone yet but let's hope that changes.

I love the work ethic and the plan to bring 40 minutes of Hell. CMA clearly and quickly making this team, His team. Very hopeful for the coming season.

I like how Anderson acknowledges that we don’t have the pieces yet instead of just blowing smoke. We the fans all know this, but I like a coach that doesn’t just try to paint a rosy picture. Nice little interview.
They list the kid from Loughlin as a 6'7" Freshman. Is he eligible now or a year away.
Eligible now

Anderson seems higher on Champagnie than I maybe thought. Would love him to be a local diamond in the rough for us.

Somewhat related, expect a nice piece/interview with Heron Friday.

"Champagnie, the lanky freshman from Bishop Loughlin in Brooklyn, is every bit his listed 6-foot-7 size, if not bigger."

Nice surprise. I think he will get stronger as well.
