Classic Classless Move by Southerland at the end

I won't miss playing them..but get some bigs in next year and pummel them first...and then kick then to the ACC curb.

I will miss playing them. We have had classic games against them. For my money, Berry blocking Pearl was the best. You can't replace tradition.

Agree on the rivalry, but need to move on. No one forced Syracuse to go to the ACC.

Big East teams shouldn't play any leavers.

What happened for those who didn't see?

Harrison was holding the ball allowing the time to run out. Idiot, smart a... Southerland tried to grab the ball out of D'Angelo's hands. Harrison pushed him away.

What I didn't like about the whole thing was this:

After that happened, players from both teams started walking off their benches (presumably to start the postgame handshakes). All 3 refs immediatly went to Dunlap, told him to control his players, and told all of our guys to return to the bench. Nobody went and told Syracuse anything. They never even looked over there.

Class-less move, Syracuse should have gotten a Technical, but there is not rule. Refs handled it badly.

Jimmy B. was pissed at his player and seemed to apologize to Steve.

Yes/ that was cheap But lets face it most all of our games are going to be like this . when we play a top team WE just have to grin and bare.it. WE need big shot blocking bodies and at least 2to 3 above average shooters and of those 3 1 must be a great shooter. The present players have to work this yr and over the summer improving their outside shot.and honing in on their defense Look whats been happening .teams with their bigger front line score too many pts
with ally opps and put backs WE need a 6-10. or 7 footer

Jim Boheim has never had class so his players should not either.
Hes been a big complainer for yrs to the refs even when hes up by 20pts!

The classic case is with the Very Fine Mess calling the abused money grabbers!

Hes a classic jerk :nerd: that got the prom queen late in life bec, of his millions after dumping the 1st wife who suffered thru the orange corner diner yrs.

It was a classless move, but remember, the game is 40 minutes long. Think about it. Do you think that Southerland would have done it if the place was 90% Johnny fans? He was hoping to take the ball throw it down, and have 14,000 Syracuse fans go nuts as the buzzer went off.

Give Boeheim his props if he apologized for it. It's a bush move when the game is just about over, and a good way to incite a brawl.

You must forget that Louie lived on the basketball court complaining to refs.

I never saw Louie run on the court up by 20pts & complain to refs, those were close games he would gyrate up & down
on the sideline. Did you ever hear Coach complain about getting screwd in those Ncaa games ag Comegys & Depaul
Boheim used to hold tv/ press conferences to bitch about not getting a good seed or a ncaa bid Lou never did that!

Ask anybody who is more liked & respected in NY LouC or JimB ??

I don't mean to sound picky but our lack of size/experience has nothing to do with the fact that Southerland pulled a truly classless move. It's a move that had no place in a BE/NCAA venue and showed Southerland to be nothing but a punk. All moves like that do are instigate :fight:

If Boheim has any sense of dignity, he suspends Southerland for at least 1 game. That would show some class.

You think he will suspend him? Boeheim is all hot air. Sure he outwardly says he shouldnt have done that but you know what- why was he even in the game at that point? Boeheim wanted to rack up the points and crush st johns. You can bet your bottom dollar on that one. So what the kid did was just an extension of what the coach wanted- he wanted to grab the ball and dunk one. What I dont understand is, why wasnt a foul called and Harrison on the line shooting foul shots instead of just inbounding the ball.

I said if Boeheim had any class he would do it. I'm not expecting it.

Then, why Syracuse had 3 walkons on the court in the last minute?

You don't get suspended for trying to steal the ball, even at an inappropriate time of the game. A generation ago, if a player stole a base with his team about 9-1 in the 8th innning, he was sure to get hit the first time up the next day. Nowadays, it's more common. What Southerland tried to do was inappropriate but you play the game for 40 minutes, and honestly, the losing team shoudl play hard to the end. Winning teams can hold the ball as not to run up the score, but it's become in vogue for the losing team to do the same. Big difference - the losing team, even at the end, has stopped competing, while the winning team does it not to further the embarrassment. So Southerland was out of line to look for a steal, and I think SJU (and all teams) should be playing to the last second when they are on the short end of any game.

I saw boeheim tell the kid that was a stupid thing to do. in fact reading his lips he  you could clearly see him say "that was stupid."

i don't think anything will come of it as there technically wasn't anything wrong with trying to steal the ball with the clock winding down.

I was more pissed that we stopped playing. Why not play out the remaining time. The "we give up " mentality emboldened Southerland ( an ass ) to attempt his stunt.
