Caraher Leave of Absence

Caraher seems like a great kid and teammate who got more conifdent as the season went on last year and helped us in a handful of games with excellent ball movement. For whatever reason, he wasn't part of the rotation this year and can't blame him for staying home if he is done with classes. Wish him the best in law school and going forward from there. Once a Johnnie always a Johnnie.
For David's sake I hope that some other school who plays in a league such as ours, saw him last season and sees his value and wants him.   He is that kind of kid who plays for a Butler, kills us, and we say "who the frick was that guy?"    Good luck to him.   I have an enduring memory of a big win early last season where a jubilant team doused a gleeful CMA with a bucket of water as he entered the locker room.  David led the charge and I believe was the bucket perpetrator.   Good kid, and wish him well.  For his part LJ is also a very good kid I've been told, despite leaving a bad taste in his mouth as to how he left.

I believe , if you go back in time far enough , to when Figgy and Caraher came here under Mullin , there was some connection between them . Prior to their being teammates .

I could be having trouble remembering but I do not recall any sort of prior connection with Caraher and Figueroa.

I recall Caraher and Steere being connected.

I would imagine Caraher is doing his homework on schools that will offer him a good basketball experience and graduate program.  As many have mentioned, nothing not to like about David.

Let me start by saying I think David is a great kid and appears to be a great teammate, even when he wasn't getting much playing time.

That being said, in retrospect, this was clearly a reach by the previous staff. It was obvious almost immediately he didn't have the skills for the Big East level other than an end of the bench guy. He was better suited at the level he began at.

David should find himself in a school with good academics and a good law school, hope he gets p.t., and succeeds in life.

As expected

David Caraher has entered the transfer portal.

Good luck Dave!

Good luck to him.  Was a good teammate and will thrive in a bit lower league.

Would love to see David do a reverse Max Hooper, St Johns to Harvard. That woulkd be special. Wishing him the best wherever he goes.

He'd be a great fit at Davidson except they don't have a law school. Maybe Elon if he wants to be close to home?

Belmont has a law school.  But to the extent he likes being in the northeast now, Drexel, William & Mary, Hofstra, Northeastern, GW, American, George Mason, are just some examples of programs in lower conferences with law schools.

I have nothing but admiration for David. Great kid no doubt. But I don't think too many of our opponents last year were overheard saying "who the frick was that guy?". I expect that David will find a team and conference more suited to his skill level. I wish him the best, he will be a success at whatever he chooses to do in life.

Has David graduated?
yes

Thanks. So if he's planning on attending law school, he's also planning on playing ball at the same time? That would be tough to do.

There was someone on Seton Hall recently who did that.  If he goes to a school that has a part-time program, he could probably do it more easily too.

He could go to night school and play only day games.  /media/kunena/emoticons/wink.png

Official SJ wordWeb Release QUEENS, N.Y. (Jan. 27, 2020) – After graduating from St. John’s University at the conclusion of the winter intercession with a bachelor of science degree in legal studies, David Caraher has entered the transfer portal with the intent to pursue a graduate degree while continuing his basketball career. “David is an outstanding young man and everything you could want in a teammate,” said Head Coach Mike Anderson.  “We are so proud of him for earning his degree from St. John’s University and wish him well in the next chapter of his college career.”

Caraher was a heady but , a bit outclassed BE Player . I think we all had expectations he was going to be the dead eye 3 point shooter but , he never achieved that level . What does get applause is ,he's being a Good Student now headed to Law School .
