C7 Update

I think we should stay away from Richmond. They don't bring anything to the table.

Agreed. The more we add beyond Xavier & Butler, the more we become Atlantic 10 The Sequel. I know people like Creighton, VCU, Dayton, etc but I think we are better off with just 9.

I'm watching Butler -VCU right now.
Both would be great additions.
Place is rocking.

I'm pretty excited to do a Butler road trip

Butler, Xavier and Creighton also will join the league, which will begin play in 2013, sources told McMurphy.

I'd rather it were St. Louis over Creighton. But so it goes.

I think they'll be eager to get St. Louis added sooner rather than later if they make it to the Elite Eight, which I think is a real possibility.

According to sources in the Big East, the 7 Catholic schools who announced on Saturday that they were leaving–DePaul, Marquette, Seton Hall, Providence, Georgetown, Villanova and St. John’s–and the three remaining FBS schools–Connecticut, South Florida and Cincinnati–will split a pot that includes more than $60 million in assets compiled from exit fees and the highly profitable “units” handed out by the NCAA to schools that perform in the lucrative NCAA basketball tournament

According to a Big East source, the same by-law which allowed a group of schools to leave the conference without penalty, also stipulates that the assets of the league will also be divided.

Using that figure of $60 plus million as a base, the Catholic 7 will have in excess of $42 million to form what is expected to be a 10-team league at the start

Even with the most conservative estimates, the total of exit fees already paid, as well as the money which will be paid, plus the total of the basketball units translates into a pay-day of in excess of $60 million for the 10 schools.

What exactly was the point of this post? Was it really a burning desire for a link? Or just baiting?

The point Mr. lawman, was that there was NO ANNOUNCEMENT when Mr. Williams started the thread!! He merely rejurgitaed what was in the previous C7 thread, which, thanks to a wise Mod, incorporated it into this thread.
Do you see the point now?????
What was the point of your responding other than to look for an argument?

The point is that your off-topic debate with Jack Williams about his age or alleged age has been noted. It has been beaten to death and detracts from reading the site. Your basketball opinions might be of mild interest to some, and you are entitled to them whatever they may be. So is he.

Don't bait and pick fights for the sake of baiting and picking fights. Several posters have been warned and a few banned recently when they didn't get it or violated other site rules.

We understand that people are disappointed and frustrated with the state of the program and with other StJ issues at the moment. Our goal as moderators is just to keep the conversation civil and on-topic. Sometimes that means merging or moving a thread, and sometimes it means editing or removing a post.

And sometimes it means pointing out an example of what we are NOT looking for, which you were kind enough to provide here.

Which Rising NCAA Basketball Programs Will Still Be Relevant in a Decade?

3 of the 5 are C7 members.

With how things are going its hard to stay positive, and since the program has not been consistently relevant since the late 90's, Its hard to think we will ever get there. With so many priest around you would think we would have better luck.

Clearly an administration and management cleansing is due for things to turn around.

Fair enough but it took you quite a while to remove a "Manifesto" directed at a member. As far as basketball opinions go, I scroll past 90% of what is posted by certain posters since going "off-topic" is an established pattern here. If the posters you "banned" irked you that much, I would have done the same. When midle age men start acting like they are Father Cathecism and deplete the site of members, what you will eventually have is a bunch of mods posting links to ESPN.

“@McMurphyESPN: Big East officially announces Catholic 7 leaving June 30. C7 will start 10-team league July 1, sources tell @espn”

The BIG EAST Conference released a statement earlier today regarding the separation of its seven basketball-focused schools, of which St. John's is a part. Here is the statement in its entirety:

PROVIDENCE - Big East Conference Commissioner Mike Aresco today announced that after several weeks of cordial and professional discussions, a definitive agreement has been reached that will enable a mutually-beneficial separation of some of the league's current members and allow an orderly formation of a new conference by the seven basketball schools. The separation will become effective on July 1, 2013.

The agreement, which remains subject to formal Board approval, contemplates continued cooperation and playing opportunities between the conferences.

"I am pleased that this agreement has been reached," said Aresco. "With the long-term well-being of our outstanding institutions and their student-athletes of paramount importance, each group worked through a number of complex issues in an orderly, comprehensive and amicable manner marked by mutual respect. We part ways as friends and colleagues and look forward to the success of both conferences."

The Presidents of the seven basketball universities released the following statement regarding their formal separation: "We are grateful to Commissioner Michael Aresco for spearheading an agreement that truly represents the best path forward for each of our great institutions and the thousands of student-athletes who compete for our schools annually. It is a great credit to Mike, our colleagues, and all involved that we were able to work through a host of highly complex and time-sensitive issues in such a short period of time. We are pleased that we reached this amicable and mutually-beneficial separation by approaching each issue with a spirit of cooperation and shared respect."
