C7 Update

I know that Crieghton, VCU, Dayton, etc all offer different things, but I would have been very happy with just 9 schools, the way it used to be before Miami joined in 1991, a move which would ultimately lead to the current state of affairs. The good news is that the longest running thread on Broadway (All Realignment Talk) may soon come to an end ; )

Everyone should enjoy voting in these polls, my favorite is, which conference should UConn go to lol

Question- (in all seriousness) what does a school like SJU do with the $3M split? Where does that go? Advertising/marketing, facility upgrades, coaches salaries, all of the above?

Whatever you want it to. Budget infusion.

I like the #9.
No rush.
Marquette board saying nd may wait a year till the ACC self implodes..

Why would we (or ACC) continue to cater to ND??? Allowing them to benefit from some sports yet keep their football elite status? The Big East does not need ND - they need us.

ESPN says Creighton is going to be the 10th team joining this year!
Someone's going to be mad!
Joe3. Havnt heard from him. Im assuming he got kicked off the board. Nevertheless things are shaping up nicely for SJBB. Now all we need is Jordan to sign.

In 13 years of living in Indiana I can tell you that Notre Dame doesn't need two things: a) money b) the big east. But I'd love to have them

SO even if there is no football to exclude themselves from you still hold a grudge? What UND has done and will continue to do is what's good for UND, just like what the Big East hoops teams have done is good for them. No one held a gun to any conferences head and said let me join without football, but folks lined up to do it because, unlike you, they understand the incredible brand value and awareness UND has, so far above every other member of the old and new Big East, and what that can add to a variety of revenue streams. Football killed the Big East, not UND, Long Live the Big East, with our without UND.

So let's see my Dear Austour, there are people "unlike me" that ...whatever…
How much did/does ND add to our baseball, lacrosse, soccer, and yes B-Ball programs
some could argue it's (ND) mainly a football brand.
I'll make a note to look out for ND baseball shirts and lacrosse jerseys, and soccer leggings…in Modell's and on the streets.
let me drop it - I am naive and uninformed in certain circles - this apparently is one of them
but I hope your final comment "with our without UND" is without.

all the best

Agreed. I've always hated ND for its arrogance with respect to football. In the past, ND needed Big East to validate its basketball program, whereas the thriving BE didn't need ND. But being that they are a popular, established, and nationally recognized winning program under Mike Brey -- something that would be a big boost to the "new" BE -- I'd really like to see them join us. Plus, the Irish would be a perfect fit for regional balance. (And a much, much, much better fit than Creighton.)

my concern w/ ND is that in 5-10 years there may only be 4-5 BCS conferences separated from the NCAA. ND may be forced to be in a conference. But they just might not have a strong enough brand that they could be in the new Big East for basketball and "pimp out" their football to the highest bidder. I say take ND. My only concern is selfish building the strongest new BE as quickly as possible so that it remains attractive to the nations top recruits!

To establish a solid foundation for years to come, at this time we need to add the most successful, recognizable, and winning programs ... and ND will help do that.

If ND would like to come to the new BE, I would welcome them with open arms. The football issue would be moot and it would be purely basketball. But if they only want to come for one year pending the breakaway to the ACC I say dont take them. Let them play with the old BE teams. I dont see why we need to cater to them. It is clear this is a program/school that has used the BE as its own toy and is the tail wagging the dog. If they only want us for one year, dont let them in.

Stevens isn't leaving Butler, but most importantly, ND, ESPN, and Syracuse no longer dictate our future. St. John's, Georgetown, etc did what needed to be done. When Disney bought ESPN, they bullied everyone, including the big east, but we didn't die. I'm so proud of my alma mater for looking forward and not letting the channel we built bully us around. Big East 2.0 is better for it

I like the idea of playing everyone twice also, but if they go to 12 teams the league should split into 2 divisions. Play each team in your division twice and each team from the other division once. That would be 16 games. You could split the divisions with the C7 (less DePaul) in one division and the other 6schools in the other division. We would get G'Town, Villanova, Marquette, PU, SHU, home and away each year.
Or if they want 18 conference games keep the 2 division format and do a home and away with 2 teams from the other division. Either way I am loving it and would really like to see SLU in the new league. I would think the new league would want the St. Louis market.

Have you ever been to St Louis? They have great baseball fans but there isnt much there. I was at one of their casinos on a weekend and they were closing up at 11 pm/
Fried ravioli anyone??

Great fans in general. Definitely not limited to baseball.
