C 7 shines today

On that point, interested to read today that the commish said that UConn, Cincy and the rest are now interested in keeping the BE name. Looking to finalize at a 12 team all sport conference. Not sure if the name thing is a ruse to drive up the value during the separation negotiations or not.

Its a ploy for $ no doubt.

Maybe not if their is no avenue for them to leave the conference. They certainly would want to retain the only thing of value left. That is a name brand.

I wonder how many of the remiaing members would have to vote to disband the league? If that was done, the so called remaining teams would have no rights to the name either.

If the remaining teams want to keep the league, then the C7 will have to go with another name.

Which to me isn't a big deal. But to a lot of others is a big deal.

They know their TV deal will suck. They know that we want out ASAP. So if they can hold us for some more money for the name and a quicker exit by all means they will.

What TV deal?
Aresco cannot negotiate any long term deal since he does not even know what to put on the table as a product after 2013-14.
If Cincy and Uconn depart by then...sooner if they can find new partners......what schools from the ."EAST" are actually going to be left?
Boise is already gone so he is banking on Temple and Memphis to prop up the remains of a dead Big East.
I thought he was a smart TV executive.......I was wrong.....again.

Uconn and Cincy are interested in one thing.....getting out of what is left of the Big East. They both publicly lobbied before the C7 break and now are quietly doing so.
The Big East name has zero value to the football schools. In fact, for them it would be a tarnished brand name...associated with what was once the best basketball conference in America and, at the same time, the worst BCS football conference. There will be no fooling the TV honchos or the general public after the C7 leave, along with the others going to the ACC (the new Big East), leave Aresco et al with SMU, Houston, East Carolina, UCF, USF, Navy, etc.
It will have value to the C7 because of the BB history.
Value....Brand name......Money.........they don't always synch. Case in point....West Virginia.....they sued to leave a year early but now have lost their identity in basketball faster than you can say Boston College.
After today's loss, WV is 9-11. So much for rushing to the gravy train. LOL!

Tooooo bad for WVU.
Hope the same happens to Cuse and Pitt.

To me MSG is more important than the name,

every conference schedules games at msg. it's a venue. nothing special except in the minds of those who buy into the hype of "the world's most famous arena". the big east name is badly tarnished...but it still carries a cache that can be fixed.

this may be a ploy to have big east/football and big east/basketball conferences. that would allow uconn, cincinnati and temple to remain. these are bigger programs than the atlantic 10 teams some of you want to bring in. they would also prevent the "7" from becoming the atlantic 10 in a few years.

How do you feel that your Fox buddies are prepared to cough up serious cash?

He can't be happy. There goes his bonus.

you don't really think someone wants to pay mega bucks for a small league with the likes of st john's, providence, depaul and seton hall leading the way...plus a few atlantic ten teams.

there's reality...then there's wishful thinking.

So you think the #'s being talked about are a lie? If those #'s are out there I only see it going up not down. Maybe it doesn't go anywhere.

When I raise the issue of Boston College likely regretting their move, people say no BC is making a lot more $$ even though they may lose on wins, competition etc.

Goodbye to the non-C-7 teams.
I look forward to the new league and being a solid basketball-lacrosse-soccer-vollyball-baseball etc. unit

all the best

PS I hope we stay "Big East"

DePaul not shining today vs Pitt. They're down 25 before the half. They need to move on from Purnell and hire somebody who vpcan really recruit Chicago and the Midwest.

They have a solid Chicago player coming in next year.

They will suffer the same fate as us sometimes. Kids don't want to stay home.

Agreed as is evident that our top talent has little to do with NYC.
JS-Ohio
DP-Michigan
AG- California
DH-Texas
JB-Texas
PG-Illinois
CO and GG-Nigeria

Lavin understands only too well the value of the dorms and NYC and will make a living out of grabbing top talent
from other parts.

Good observations!
And another reason to appreciate Lavin and staff and donors(and loyal fans) who have raised our program to new/past heights - Louie, God bless him, never recruited outside the tri-state area (pretty much) and he neither played the bench nor mixed up his strategies as much as Coach Lavin. He did not recruit such athletic players as we now have.

Some posters know more than I do but this is my take.
I'm glad the football schools are punting West and South. More Money perhaps but goodbye rivalries.

This staff is gradually taking us to a new level - which will also enhance the new version of the Big East/C7.

If I recall correctly Newsie retired recently so probably isn't getting bonuses anymore. ;)

NYC brings a pretty decent regional television audience, so does philly and milwaukee. If DePaul and Seton Hall put together good teams, they also have a large population to draw on regionally. Even PRovidence as a good team has a fairly densely populated state with Boston market almost contiguous. I don't think its as bad as you portray, and I think the C7 AD's know that.

I know this idea wouldn't be beneficial financially but why not play CUSE or the other defectors at Carnesseca if they really want to keep the rivalry going like they say. It would make for a real home court advantage. The place would be packed to the rafters.
