BYE BYE TRAITORS...

No one said it was easy but there are reasons why guys like Coach K, Bobby Knight & Jim Calhoun won multiple titles during the same period of time and why Jimmy B has only one. Those other guys know how to win and I am sure if they had some of those squads you mentioned, they would not have just fallen short as you correctly pointed out. You have to take the losses with the wins. I don't complain that we would have been a Final Four team in 91 if Werdan is healthy or in 1999 if they call the push on Scoonie Penn. Syracuse has a reputation of not coming thru in March no matter how talented the teams are under Jimmy B and your last reply pretty much proves it.

In 2004, after Boston College, VaTeck, and UMiami abandoned the Big East for the ACC, former SU Athletic Director Jake Crothemal convinced the remaining Big East schools to not schedule those 3 schools as a way of isolating them from the east coast media and recruits.

Jake Crothemal was a good and shrewd businessman. Jake's strategy has helped render BC, VaTeck, and UMiami irrelevant in athletics since they bolted the Big East.

I hope that the Athletic Directors at Yukon, St.John's, Villanova, Georgetown, Notre Dame et al follow Jake Crothemal's advice and refuse to schedule Syracuse University in all sports.

What are you talking about? Va tech has been very successful in football, bc hasn't been successful, because they refuse to put money into their athletic programs.

Miami WAS college football before it joined the ACC, 5 National Titles since the 80s alone, now that is impressive, and since they joined the ACC, they have never even won a conference title or division title. Sad

Knight is in his own category imo, but lets take calhoun, calhoun has probably had even more talent than boeheim. Calhoun's 2006 team was as talented as a roster as you will ever see, and he lost to george mason. He had a very talented team in 95, and couldn't get by ucla, he had a very good team in 96, and couldn't get by miss st. Calhoun had far and away the best team in the country in 2004, and in 99 along with duke was 1a in terms of talent. What year other than 2003 did boeheim have far and away the most talented team in the country?

And that has nothing to do with conference change, it has to do with the problems they created.

Calhoun has 3 rings, nuff said, and please stop with the "recruiting hit a snag from 04 to 09"...Flynn, Greene, Nichols, Watkins and even Andy Rautins were either drafted or played in the NBA and they were from that time period.

Miami was creating problems far worse before they joined the ACC and still bounced back and won a National Title.

To make this even greater my alma mater is going to the Frozen Four! Was at that game so didn't get to see Cuse go down but very happy to see the result.

Union? My wife's second cousin Matt Hatch is a winger on their top line.

Yes, Union, that is funny. He came in the year after I graduated but I knew a bunch of friends of his who I played with at other points in time. He is a very good player, the line he plays on is very fast and skilled, then again, so are all 4 lines they roll. Was at the East Regional last line since it was very accessible to get to Bridgeport, which btw is a great facility and did a great job running the tournament. Very well organized. It is nice to have one of my teams in a final four for now. Hoping the Johnies add to that soon.

Is it true Union doesn't award hockey scholarships?

Very true, in fact, some of my friends on the team when I was there (I graduated in 2010) paid their own way because they did not qualify for financial aid. It is really remarkable the program that has been built their, and it is all about coaching. I don't think the academics hurt, but we compete with the Ivy's so we need more than that to distinguish ourselves.

Mike,
First off we are all jealous of the success Syracuse has had but to say that Calhoun had more talent than Boeheim has had over the last 20 years is just nuts. Boeheim has had a ton of talent. Calhoun has done wonders in Storrs with the talent he had.

What year did Boeheim have the most talent in the country? Calhoun has had several talented teams that came up sure. If you make a list of the players that both coached, it will tilt in favor of uconn. Boeheim has had talent, but until recently, its not hes been bringing in 3 mcdonalds all americans a year.

Mike, are you serious, are you saying that only once did Syracuse have the best team in the country??? Come on, the fact is that they lose to teams like Richmond & Vermont in the early rounds and that is why they have the reputation they have come March (11 times they have lost in either the 1st or 2nd round since 1983). As far as teams go, are you for real, remember the past teams:

1986 season - 26- 6 (ranked #9)
1988 season - 26-9 (ranked #9)
1989 season - 30-8 (ranked #7)
1990 season - 26-7 (ranked #6)
1994 season - 23-7 (ranked #15)
2000 season - 26-9 (ranked #21)
2005 season - 27-7 (ranked #11)
2009 season - 28-10 (ranked #13)
2010 season -30-5 (ranked #3)

All of those were legit Final Four/NCAA Title Contenders and there are many other seasons I am leaving out. It's not even close considering that Calhoun was not even coaching at UConn until the late 80s and only made them a power in 1990. Calhoun has won more titles in less time and I think you can make a good argument that Syracuse has had just as many great teams as UConn has had during that time if not more.

Upsets happen, look at duke this year. Calhoun lost to a 13 seed in the first round a few years ago, he also lost as a two seed in the second round to a tenth seeded nc state team, and lost in elite eight game to 11th seeded george mason.

My point was what year was syracuse thought of to be the best team in the country? Perhaps in 2010, and if he didn't lose his starting center, he may have won it all. The 2009 team was a good team, that ran into a better oklahoma team. The 2005 loss to vermont was a bad one, but all great coaches get upset.

2000- As a 4 seed, lost to number one seeded mich st
1994- As a 4 seed, lost to number one seeded missouri
1990- As a 2 seed, lost to 6 seeded minn in the sweet 16
1988- As a 3 seed, lost to 11 seeded uri

He has had a few bad losses, but if coleman made a couple of free throws, and arinze doesn't get hurt, he couuld have three titles, luck does play a role in it.

Where did I saw Jimmy B had the most talent in the country?
I never did.
I said he has had a ton of talent.

Coulda Woulda Shoulda, yes upsets happen, Coack K, Bobby Knight & Calhoun have also had their share upsets and with that still have multiple titles, hell, even Denny Crum & Dean Smith had 2. Look if you think Jimmy B has only had one team that was good enough to win it all then I guess you don't think as highly of your Orange as many other fans do. At the end of the day, no matter what you say I think most people will agree that Syracuse should have won much more over the years with the talent that they've had than just once.

gee alot of green eyed monsters on the board. some of you guys sound like a spurned woman. the cuse is an O.G. big east member. Uconn Gtown Cuse have all carried the banner for the Big East for the last 25 years. im sad to see them go. who wants to see us play games against temple or houston or whatever else garbage teams are coming into the league? Oh and who was the poster that guaranteed the Cuse wouldnt make the Sweet 16 in every post

Comprehension isn't your strong suit. It was me who stated that they would lose in the Sweet 16. Every post? I believed I mentioned it twice.

Temple and Houston both have more final 4's than we do. Temple is only a handful of wins behind Cuse All-time. Not such garbage. Not in the least. For an OG member of the Big East, they sure do know how to submarine the league. Hope they rot in the ACC and it's not jealousy speaking.

Even if they continue to recruit at the current pace they  start each pre season in third place in the ACC . NC and Duke will eat, then the rest of the pretenders will get the scraps. Remember a good guy, Lefty Drizell, who claimed he woluld turn Maryland into the UCLA of the East? He was a guy capable of doing that in almost any league (he had had Davidson at #1 at one point). They are still just another good team.
AND, as for packing the gym with fans, "NYs team" will find that the the channels closed for seats at the ACC championship 28 years ago. When they play it in Tampa every 15 years or so, a stray ticket or two might come available..
Speaking of Tampa, Upstate Redman and Section9, Seats are still available for Yankees but the opener is sold out.
They play Easter Sunday at 1:30 and I bought good tickets (upper deck, low, behind home plate) for under $25. Tickets for the FF are $85 and up and available at all levels and StJ softball is in town for 2 days, 3 games, that weekend at USF.......($3). I have one extra ticket for the yanks on Easter, no charge, if you come but e-mail me soon.
