@Butler, Tue., Feb. 7, 8:30p, FS-1

Undisciplined and reckless is the culture of this staff. Thus the late collapses the last four years. The staff panics and hopes for the best instead of deploying strategic adjustments.
There are no strategic "adjustments" to be made because we have no fundamental strategy to begin with.

On offense, we basically free lance. Guys stand around and one guy tries to make a play and, if he can't, he passes to somebody else. We don't run any sets, have limited (if any) ball and player movement and have no semblance of a cohesive offensive structure.

On defense, we switch all the time because we can't guard anybody with the ball. We play the "matador" defense, the opponent blows by our defender and somebody has to try to pick him up. That's how Soriano ends up guarding someone on the perimeter, leaving their big in a mismatch against one of our smaller guys, which usually ends up in an easy basket or an offensive rebound and easy put back.

Good teams have solid fundamental, well drilled systems of playing offense and defense. We have neither. That's why we suck!!!

couple positive posts lately... u ok? lol

Actually I just call it as I see it. I’ve ripped the staff for two years (and justifiably so) for their ineptness in late game situations but in last nights game, aside from the outcome and tge rest of the game, the staff deserved credit for that last play.

But don’t worry, I’ll be back to my old self shortly. 🤪

Real quote from CMA?!! He should be saying “We had control of the game, failed to tack onto the lead. You don‘t win when you dont do that”

No one moves on offense and no screens. One guy with the ball and 4 guys watching

As for the game it's a weird viewing experience. I'm rooting for them to win because there is no downside to it. For anyone who has been pining to start over again, you can relax, your wish is coming true. And no, that is not an affirmation of Anderson from me, but it's out there - he's gone. At this point you are beating a very dead horse.

But how worked up can you get? The team is going nowhere fast. We don't know who the next coach will be when the next meaningful game is played. With free transfers we don't know if any of the players will be here the next time a meaningful game is played. And the game last night wasn't even meaningful for Butler. So when they were reviewing the last play I was torn. On one hand I felt bad for Soriano, who has worked so hard all season, on how the last few minutes had went. And here was some redemption for him. On the other hand, did I really want to see five more minutes of it all?

One thing about the rest of this season, it is stress free.

Unfortunately, the tickets that we have purchased aren't free...

He is a horrible player who does not belong playing division one basketball...period
I don’t agree with that. Dylan is actually a good spot up shooter when he has time to get his feet set and shoot. That’s what he should be doing. The problem is we don’t have a coach that sees a player’s strengths and then runs plays and or develops a system to play to his team’s strengths.

1985 my Dad was so happy SJU went to Final Four - he said this may be the last chance in my lifetime. I was senior at the time and figured I would see many more final fours in my lifetime. I am now 60
I was a senior that year too so I know how you feel!

SJUFan85/89 post made me think back to that time and question what happened to the SJU effort to remain a top team following that 85 final four year. The big east was the top league in the country with high tv ratings. They played before sell out or close to sell out crowds at MSG with big games vs Geo, Syr Vill and others and yet SJU was unable to sustain that level of success.
They competed during the next seven years of Looies reign but never touched that 85 team. Syr and Geo did a much better job of maintaining that success.

I don’t remember hearing the announcers touting CMA’s string of non-losing seasons last night
Not a mathematician but will his so called winning season streak on record come to an end after the end of this season? If so the SJU curse spares no one.

Having a conversation with an esteemed poster this morning, I basically said "I don't completely blame CMA for this. He's an old school, tough love kinda coach, who's now being asked to coach a new generation of (me first) kids in a new era of college ball where kids can leave anytime they want for any reason they feel like it". It can't be easy for CMA. Regardless, we agreed it's time for a change.

Between NIL favoring the usual suspects and transfer mania, my interest in college hoops is slowly eroding so I agree with your point. Next the NCAA will continue to water down the “Dance” to really make it challenging to maintain interest.

He has to win two more games to keep his streak alive.

The '91 Final Eight team was very good, but I still say that the '90 team (one of my personal favorites) would have made a lot of noise if Jayson Williams didn't get hurt late in the season. Boo Harvey, Malik Sealy, Robert Werdann, Jason Buchanan etc. Very good team.
totally agree

Wusu's bad and stupid plays cost us this game.
Unfair to put it all on Wusu. What about Soriano's inability to make shots. What about Storr's and Pinzon's inability to play decent defense leaving their players open. What about Posh's decision to make a showboat behind the back pass. This was not one player's fault. It was a total team effort, including the coaching staff. By the way this team certainly misses Montez Mathis, his defense and shot making ability. Seems this latest collapse started about the time he injured his toe. Some of these losses might have been wins with his senior leadership. Then again we might not have wanted that to happen because it might have saved CMA.
