Betting is a foolish endeavor.

So are drinking alcohol, eating fried foods, engaging in indicriminate sex and a whole bunch of other things that that make life worth living. Just so long as they're all done in moderation.

Would have thought mjm would have exempted drinking from the moderation requirement. ;) :)

We knew this year was going to be like this. Factor in the loss of Sima, to even play somewhat competitive is really all you can ask for from these guys. Team needs some rest and hopefully will get some this week and show up with more intensity next game. Legs are tired, shots not going in. Aside from Depaul, any other win will be unexpected.

Is that depaul this season or next season?

Lol. I think we are on a level playing field with them right now

Those are the best activities to do in excess . Third way thru big East with out a win. One of our better opportunities outside of DePaul games is next Saturday against Marquette and we have a week to prepare.

Both games are late February. We should have Sima.

DePaul next season should be a sweep.
After that, it's gonna be a bitch.
Marquette likely finishes 8th and if Elleson returns, leapfrogging anyone will be difficult.
Very young roster next season, similar to Marquette's this season, and look how difficult it's been for them.

People who look at us as "loaded" next year should realize our BE opponents usually improve as well. In this tough league, I think we will win about sixteen games in total, give or take a few, show improvement & contend for a NCAA bid in year three of this rebuild. If they do better next year, that is gravy to me.

totally agree. next year is going to be tough too but funner to watch

Big key is Mullin working with Yawke and Sima when his hand is better on three throws. These guys need to be respectable next year.

Depending on how roster fills out, we should be very talented but still young. Other teams will improve, but we have way more upside than other teams. I think your projection of 16 Ws is very realistic. I'm still hoping for 18-20.

Agree. They could be an extremely formidable one-two punch up front, especially on the defense end. Yakwe, because of his quickness and unorthodox lefty moves, will get fouled a ton. He has got to get that FT % up in to the 60% + range. He doesn't have a bad stroke, and with some tweaking by our lefty FT shooting expert coach he should be able to get there.

16 wins next year? At this point I will gladly sign up for that.

Sadly, we are probably two more seasons away from the NCAAs, if all goes well.

Why does this keep repeating itself for us?! It's been a rough 20+ years for fans of this program.

Completely agree with calibrating expectations for next season. Progress doesn't mean 20 wins or an NCAA tourney. Yes, certain teams are losing a lot - Butler as an example with Dunham and Jones; Providence with Dunn; Xavier losing Farr and possibly another going pro; Seton Hall possibly losing both Whitehead and Delgado (I've read things about them leaving after this year); Gtown losing DSR and possibly underclassmen taking the leap, etc. But teams in this league get incrementally better. But we will have a lot of new guys as contributors, so expectations should be aligned as such.

I agree. Unless you're Kentucky, it's all about upperclassman with experience. Everyone has talent.

I don't think anyone should have expected much this yr Slice and Matt have to do their job It is going to take at least 2yrs unless Matt and Slice can pull out a few top 10 players

I aporeciate the upbeat enthusiasm about our future but based on the sctual takent we have coming back i believe we will be more of a 13-14 win team and 6-12 in conference. Im upbeat but think its more realistic to look for a bid in Mullins 4th season, not third.

I agree about next year. We'll get a big talent boost but they will still lack the experience to win consistently in the BE. Just look a people's projected starting lineups with Lovett and Ahmed starting and Ponds either starting or first off the bench. Also Owens as main backup at C and Freudenberg as main backup at 3 and 4. That's very little experience on the floor. And if Amar and CJ get more time then the talent level is less.

But I disagree about year 3. By then we'll have Mussini, Sima, Yakwe and Ellison as Juniors and Lovett, Ponds, Freudenberg and Ahmed will all have a year under their belt. To me that's the year we get dangerous, and hopefully before anyone (Sima?, Yakwe?) bolts early for the pros. And if we start filling in well with talented players in our 17 and 18 recruiting classes hopefully we'll be able to maintain a good balance of experience and new blood and sustain a high level of play so that not making the NCAA's becomes the exception rather than the rule.
