Villanova with a big win over Marquette tonight.
Now 9 and 6 in the league. (check)
Your move St. John's

I don't know if I agree. I don't know if we can even do anything to pass Villanova. We might want to root for them to win out, have them get solidley in the tournament, and take our chances battling it out with another bubble team.

this.
They have some ridiculously solid wins. We don't. Well...they could win out or just start losing every game. Either would be fine.

People keep telling me Nova isn't that good and all they do is win big games. They are the team we need to be.

I think I'd rather be Kansas or Florida.

You have to be Nova first before you can be Kansas or Florida. You don't go from being unranked to a top 5 team in the nation. You have to make the tourney first and look primed to be in the top 15 next year like Nova first. Then you can move up to those teams as your goal. Right now it will be a miracle just to make the tourney.

You don't have to be 'Nova before you can be those other teams. Was UConn someone before they became UConn? Was Duke someone before they became Duke? Quite frankly, we are 'Nova right now. You say some of the most asinine stuff.

It will be a miracle if we make the tourney, huh? We're not a cinch to make the tourney, but I'd doubt it'll be a miracle if we do.

To go on and beat 3 ranked teams in our final 4 games? Yes I'd say that's a miracle for a team of freshmen and sophs that cannot shoot 3's and has no PG. We can win our next 4, but the odds of us losing our next 4 are just as likely. With Nova, they know how to get the job done. They have been to a Final Four just a few years ago, a Sweet 16, and have numerous rankings over the past decade. We have 1 berth and 1 ranking in the past decade. We are NOT Nova. They also have a championship and more NCAA appearances all time. We are a solid, not good or great team IMO. Nova is a good team right now. They step up against anyone and they compete and win the big ones. If you look at their schedule, they don't get blown out even in losses to teams like Cuse. We still get blown out by the G'Town's, L'Ville's, Cuse's. Admitting Nova is good does not take away from us, it just puts it in perspective. This year there is 100% no question they are the much better team unless we win out. Nova is in the tournament and we still have a mountain to climb.

That same team of freshmen and sophomores who can't shoot have found a way to win 8 conference games, though. Not to mention, two of those three remaining games against ranked foes are at home. IMO, that gives us chance. Even moreso, since Marquette seems to have trouble playing on the road.

Only two players from 'Nova's current team have made it to the Final Four. One of those players are currently a factor. So, what happened 3 seasons ago is irrelevant. Their championship and NCAA tournament appearances are also irrelevant to the conversation, strawman.

Regardless, of what has happened in our past games this season, we are still on par with 'Nova. If you wanna bring up blowouts.... 'Nova was spanked by Cincy, while we beat Cincy. There is one for you, strawman.

There is nothing to admit. 'Nova has more "signature" wins than St. John's, but we still have time (and games) to close the gap. I don't see where they are "much better" than us. I see both teams being somewhat similar.

There is absolutely no rule that says we need to sit at a certain level for a certain amount of seasons or go through predetermined steps. If Lavin managed to put together a monster class in 2014, why would it be impossible to wave goodbye to Villanova as we shoot up the rankings? The time to be Villanova would have been when their small ball was the toast of college ball. Quite frankly, I'm not all that impressed by them and haven't been for a while. I aspire to something much higher -- like teams that win championships. I don't think Nova is winning one anytime soon.

I'd much rather be viewed as the third-best team not to be in the tournament at this point of the season than a year ago, when they were 11-16 and there was no hope of anything, and there hadn't been since SJU had just gone through a four-game losing streak.

And you can go from unraked to top 5. Miami proved that.

No them winning out, while taking them off the bubble, would mean more big east teams in and a greater reluctance to add another. Lets face it, with such a large deep conference those last couple bids can go either way. What gets the last two in is their quality wins. We have @cincy and v UConn. Something tells me that we need a Marquette AND a Pitt win to be in pretty good shape. These are the teams I want to play needing this though. Lets be honest, Marquette is always tough for us but they're on a slide, St. John's ALWAYS matches up well with the Jamie Dixon era Pitt sides (even back into the dark ages of Norm), Notre Dame was beaten once and can be again (good matchup and very up and down), and at Providence can be done too. Look, if St Johns has to play their way into the tournament with needing some quality wins this is the best 4 game stretch I could hope for. Lets get it done!
