ESPN currently has us #41 in its latest RPI rankings. They also have us #17 in the SOS. The interesting thing about our SOS is that there are, by my count, 11 teams from lesser conferences (e.g., North Dakota) that are ranked ahead of us. Surely, those schools will not have the conference schedule to maintain their places in the top 20 or even top 50 by March. There are also a ton of schools from lesser conferences immediately behind us in the SOS rankings. This likely means that we will have a top 5-10 SOS come March if things hold true through the next two non-conference games (#99 RPI Youngstown State and #286 USF).

9/10 Big East teams are currently ranked inside ESPN's top 100 RPI.

Around this time in the 2009-2010 season we were #2 in the RPI and ended up getting a 7 seed in the NIT and our coach got fired.

Bucknell (who beat Penn State) just lost to a 1-9 Marist team.

I wouldn't start looking at RPI & SOS until the OOC games are done.

What do Indiana, Michigan, NC St, Stanford, Arkansas, UCA & Butler all have in common?

I know its been a long day, but instead of RPI, I read R.I.P. and then when I saw the SOS, was thinking "Help! Someone just died" :)

How about St. John's just start winning some basketball games? If we are already talking about RPI and SOS, then this season is off to a bad start.

curious, does anyone think that the new Big East will get the shaft for the draw of 68? believe CBS can air some Big East games, and the committee for the NCAA may be more kind to non-football schools, but still, I wonder...

All you have to do is open it up see Kansas as #1 with 5 losses to realize what a joke those ttrpyes of rankings are. I know they are important as selection criteria but that doesn't make them any less of a joke.

Kansas has played a RIDICULOUS non-conference schedule:

# 11Duke (Neutral Court)
Wake Forest (Neutral Court)
#6 Villanova (Neutral Court)
Colorado in Boulder (was top 25 at the time)
#3 Florida in Gainesville
Georgetown
#5 San Diego State
New Mexico (was top 25, still getting votes)
UTEP (16-6, 1st place CUSA)

and in conference:
#21 Oklahoma
#16 Iowa State (Home)
#16 Iowa State (Away)
#19 Oklahoma State
#15 Texas
Baylor
Kansas State

Our record vs. Quality Opponents needs to improve in the 1-50 group. On the brighter side, no real bad losses in the 151+ group and just one in the 101-150 group. We just can't be under .500 against the 1-100 group. That will be a problem come Selection Sunday.

vs. 1-50 0-5
vs. 51-100 4-3
vs. 101-150 4-1
vs. 151+ 6-0

They stay the course and win the next 6 out of 8 like I know they can, these stats improve.

Remember, RPI, SOS and record during the final weeks of the season are very important criteria for bubble teams. We will have all 3 in our favor if they keep going forward.

How bout we take it one game at a time

Why? We aren't the coaching staff or the players...there is no risk of us looking past an opponent.
When we lose we are doomed, Lavin is lousy, and we can start coachign search threads. When we win and guys get optimistic, all of a sudden we are to take it one game at a time.
