Bobby Hurley Gets New Contract At Buffalo

Athletes at Mullin's level probably just assume that they will succeed at whatever they do. I am sure Mo thinks he will come here and win a National Championship. That ruining his legacy thing is the fan's issue. Since we live in a "what have you done for me lately" world, for some fans it might adversely affect his image if he fails. For the younger fans they know of him about the same way they have knowledge about Thomas Jefferson. They have read about him and heard about him. For me I can seperate Mullin the floppy haired player with Mullin the crewcut wearing coach.

Mullin was not a prima dona. He's a humble guy (not to say lacking in confidence) that did great things and works his tail off. One of the few guys that I would not be worried about being a delusional athlete.

I haven't read every post but Slice would join Mullin's staff if he were to become head coach? We would have a team full of tough nosed NYC players if that were true. Slice has recruited the area a ton better than Lavin has.

Not when he was coaching. He was terrible. He's a lot better selling some one else especially with boosters behind that coach.

Also, didn't Mullin recently say that he never actually thought about taking this head coaching job and kind of said he wouldn't do it?

My recollection is that he said he has been around the NBA, and away from the college game for a long time, and that he doesn't see himself ever being a college coach. I can't recall the specific interview or I would try to find it.

He will wait it out for coach K to leave and take over Duke. He never entertained the idea of coming to SJU.
as of today that would be Jeff Capel

Seriously there are a lot more ex K players presently HC's and assts more qualified and more likely to take the chair when K retires. Bobby Hurley wouldn't be in the top 5 on that list.

Saying that Mullin has supreme confidence in himself was not meant as a knock in any way shape or form. That is just part of a great athlete's DNA.

I would be very nervous to get Chris Mullin. Like someone mentioned above, if he loses and has to get fired then I don't want anything to tarnish his legacy. Some will say it won't, but it will.

I'm a Buffalo alum and I was there when they transitioned from the Mid-Con (saw Bryce Drew in my gym twice) to the MAC (when they were terrible for years). I'd hate to see him leave UB based on the fact that they don't lose anyone and should be the class of the MAC over the next 2-3 years and yet if St. John's did open up (which it's not), I'd be nervous to hire him. Two years is not enough time being a head coach to jump to a Big East job. Besides, if Danny Hurley is still at URI when the St. John's job opens up, I'd rather have him.

I'm the biggest Mullin fan going, but if it came down to Mullin or Jackson to be the coach ; Jackson would be the better choice, imo.

All you have to do is watch a Warriors game from last year and compare it to this year to see that Jackson is not the person for the job here. He is not a good coach at all and he's kind of a dick.

Mullin could completely flop here, but I know he won't alienate anyone in the administration.

also, has Jax ever been back once to the school to talk to the kids? i know he has been NY a lot but not sure if we've ever seen him here. Totally agree about Mullin....and heres something to think about...we all know how close Mully and Louie are, wouldnt Louie love to see Mully at the helm? Louie isnt getting any younger.
GET IT DONE!!!!!! MULLIN !!!!

Jackson couldn't even get along with his assistants. I don't know..His demeanor always rubbed me the wrong way, and apparently a lot of others around him.

@EvanDaniels: Arizona State has had a preliminary conversation with Buffalo coach Bobby Hurley, according to @SunDevilSource.

I wonder if Steve Lavin's agent is creating that Lavin is an ASU candidate when he really is not, also wonder if he's spreading info on an agreed contract extension with SJU and that Monasch is out as AD.
