Binghamton, Mon. Nov. 14, 6:30pm, FS1/570AM-BAT4

Lovett one of the few players I have ever seen that is actually better than his youtube highlights. Did not realize he had 3 point range.

My boy Shamorie Ponds: 21pnts on 7-11, 4-6 from 3, 10boards, 4assists, and 3 stls.
He's taking over for sir Dom, filling up those stats
Lovett 23pnts on 9-16, 5-11 and 3assts and 1 stl
Sima and Ahmed with 8pnts each and Yakwe 5blcks.

Now things get interesting: At Minny, first road test for this group.
Can't wait for Friday.

Our guards are absolutely phenomenal. Lovett and Ponds will be one of the best backcourts in the next few years, and I think by mid-season of their freshmen year. Our biggest problem right now is our defense. As far as I'm concerned, I prefer that being the issue than offense, because offensive ability is hard to work on.. Offense looks way ahead of where we have early in the season. Defense needs to move feet, rotate and position better. That can be fixed...

I agree but let's see what happens when they really get tested. There are a lot bigger and more athletic guards that they are going to be facing. As great as he has looked, I still feel like Lovett is playing in second gear and I mean that as a compliment. A lesser guy would be showing off but he is really poised and not forcing.

Lovett and Ponds have been getting buckets for over a decade. Tonight is exactly how I imagined they would be... at their best a year or two from now. How scary for the BE. Refreshing to not have to worry about scoring points.

Same concern as last game, rebounding needs to improve. Can't rely on your 6 foot off guard to lead the team in rebounding against small teams.

It seemed like our big men were getting caught too far down low on defense which makes it tougher to grab long rebounds

This team is going to be really good if the frontcourt gets up to speed. Right now the team reminds me of one of those mid-majors with two short guards that steals a game or two in the tournament.

Ponds in only his 2nd game ever with 21 & 10.

Kid is going to be a Johnny legend

In my mind he was a Johnny legend a year ago when he signed his letter of intent and became the first high ranking kcal player to stay home and play for the new regime. Loved him then and love him now.

With Nova's win over Purdue the Big East teas are a collective 13 wins against zero losses.

Marquette currently 22 to 14 over Howard with 7 minutes left in the 1st.

Is it possible for this season to have started off better?

No preseason drama
Big East starts undefeated
UConn starts 0-2 with 2 bad losses
Ponds and Lovett look fantastic
SJU is 2-0 and neither game was close

Only if Coach K's head explodes after the refs don't call a phantom charge.

I'm very surprised at the shooting efficiency of Ponds and Lovett from the three point line through the first two games. It's great.

Ahmed has to play under control. He forced it a bit too much tonight.
Everyone else played pretty much as expected, save for Freudenberg, of whom I expected a bit more.

We have to expect growing pains this year. They probably start next game, and definitely the game after.

This team has incredible upside! Easy win and the score doesn't reflect how much better we were. We made silly fouls far from the basket and others by just being toooo aggressive (can't believe I said that). We had a 4 min stint at the end of the half where we went ghost and sloppy in the last 2 min. We easily could have won by 30. I can hear the BUZZ getting louder. The Minnesota game will be the first real test. ..one I feel we will pass with excellent grades! Go Johnnies!!!

:eek:hmy: Lovett and Ponds are prime time shooters although not shy, ready for Broadway. I would like to see Sima and Ellison move their feet on defense rather then using their body to stop the offensive drive. And if you are guarding a hot three point shooter don't fall back in the middle to help, you have four others on defense. Yakwe still a monster with blocks. Young team playing with confidence, future looks great.

As Shamorie and Marcus go, so goes this team. They gave us 44 points on a night Bashir was not a factor. Without them we lose games like this. This was the Ponds I saw in high school and neither he nor Marcus are playing full speed yet. Can't wait for Owens to put on 20 more pounds. Both he and Sima are getting pushed around easily. Lack of bulk appears to be our biggest problem. Coach experimenting with lineups and this team could have beaten Binghamton by 30.
