Be nice if they could win and give us one more meaningful game
Hopefully Anderson starts and plays his best players, assuming he knows who they are.

Vaccaro’s always been a strong supporter of SJU. Regardless of his spin it’s nice to have a columnist that actually follows, writes about and roots for a local college team

Close win stoking optimism and lifting kids’ spirits, but fan hopes of beating Nova most likely dashed. NIT bid is the consolation prize. Johnnies dug a deep hole and often mentioned mediocre ooc schedule not helpful. Of course I would love a run to BE T final, but realistically my head is already on retaining keys players, adding needle moving transfers and hopefully being competitive next season. Go Johnnies!

mj are you drinking again? LOL!
unfortunately no hence my crazy prediction :)
Maybe you should start now in order to ease the pain you may be feeling tonight! (I'm saying 'may" because, like you, I always root for this team to win and you never know.....!)

If Posh leaves is Anderson still coach?

In my opinion, yes. I am going to enjoy remaining games and let that play out postseason. No sense driving myself any crazier.

Need to at least beat DePaul to have a solid shot at the NIT. Right now most bracketologists have us as a 5 or 6 seed, but the 7 and 8 lines are taken up by auto bids.

At this point anything short of a BET championship would be a failure of a season, but making the NIT would be better than nothing. Believe it or not we have not made an actual bracket game (not PIG) since Lavin's final year.

Bracketologists for the NIT?  Surely you jest

Lol I think they are just regular bracketologists who expand their "First Four Out" eight times to create the NIT field. Doesn't seem like it'd take much time (unless the NIT has a significantly different selection process?). Honestly I'm surprised by how few actually do this, especially ESPN (Lunardi) given they televise the NIT.

On a related note, I'm pretty sure St. John's hasn't been on any of the ESPN channels even once this year, which I don't think has happened before. That is of course due to our dreadful OOC schedule which lacked neutral games and only had one away game (@ Indiana on FS1). Don't get me wrong our Fox/CBS coverage is great, but it's still a good idea to have a presence on ESPN. Villanova for instance had a lot of OOC games on ESPN this year.

Anyway, given the NIT is on ESPN and the last couple rounds are at MSG there is still room for an interesting run there. I highly doubt we'll beat Villanova but at a minimum we need to beat DePaul tonight and make the NIT. That needs to be the absolute floor for this year to keep it from being a total failure.

Not to get too off topic here but it's no guarantee we even make the NIT especially with a loss tonight. Remember, teams that win their conference regular season but lose in the conference tournament get an autobid to the NIT if they don't get an at-large to the NCAAs. There are already 6 autobids in the NIT field with more to come for sure.

What 5 would you start?

Soriano, Wheeler, Justin, Mathis and Posh
I know Mathis and Posh can’t shoot but really outside of Justin and Wheeler no one can.
Going to live but probably die with those 2. Only way we go on a run is if either of those 2 pull a McNamara
Rather have Mathis D

Justin did grab 12 boards in a Raptors win over the Bucks on January 15th. I would play him as well. J/K

If Champy can shoot efficiently and score 20 plus, and posh can shoot efficiently and score 20 plus, we can win this game.

We need our stars to step up tonight, put this team on their backs and carry us to a win.  Stars need to shine in the BET.

The darkhorse tonight is Wusu.  If we can get good wusu again with Champy and Posh stepping up, its onto Nova.

I don’t think we’ve seen Posh, wusu, champ, wheeler, and Soriano as a starting group. Wusu’s starts came without wheeler or Posh. I think those are our five best players but I get Wusu coming off the bench.
