BET (POST GAME) Georgetown, Wed., Mar. 11, 7p, FS-1 / 570 AM
I was one of the Marcellus doubters....eating crow and glad to do so. Never seen a player go from irrelevant to a stud overnight like that. This has been such a weird season starting red hot with early mentions in the NCAA bracket to starting off terribly in Big East play and now ending strong. I believe I was hoping for at least 15 wins this year. We are at 17 and maybe more.
Nobody could have predicted this improvement out of Earlington. All I know is that he willed this team to win tonight! I’m so happy for him, this team and CMA and staff. The future is bright.

WOW,shut my mouth I apologize will not ever doubt this group congrats to all keep it up
None of us will...at least until noon tomorrow. ;) :)
This group of players have never backed down from any opponent this season and one reason why I refrain from posting during the game. 17-15 with the least talent of any conference team with the loss of 3 scholarship players CMA was able to motivate basically bench players to a winning season. The real eye opener is that we lost 5 games by 3 points or less. In the world of what-ifs this team could just as easily been 22-10 and we could be arguing our "NCAA" seeding.
But we are who we are and will probably turn on ourselves when we play poorly in future games. As long as we are happy when we win all is good. I wish I could say the same about 4 anti-fans on JJ.

I believe if we didnt spend half the big east season playing the trap defense and leaving guys wide open for 3, wed have 21 wins right now.
What a fucking comeback !!!

Yes this was curse worthy
Any fucking win over fucking Georgetown is curse-worthy!

Ewing did a great job all season but I hope he didn't let any timeouts go unused. Geo needed a stoppage of play between the six and three minute mark desparetely.

Great win fellas! Kudos to Mike Anderson who has already built a winner here no matter how far we go past today!
That was awesome. I don’t know if anyone else sees it but screw the points, Greg Williams played a great freaking game! He makes winning play after winning play. Marcellus The Motor literally ran through gtown. His future is so bright. The core is there. Come on back figgy!

Which brings me to my last point, the criticism of LJ in that game thread and in general is unreal. What expectations do you have for him? It can’t be higher than mine and I can at least be reasonable with his struggles. But tonight he was absolutely huge. When we were just about to lose momentum with 8 minutes left and gtown pushed their lead back to 11 it was LJ who hit the 3 to put the air back in the building. When we finally got it tied up at 62 it was LJ who pulled off the big steal on the double team which got us our lead. And when we were trying to put the game away with a minute left it was LJ who hit a 3 late in the shot clock to take the lead from 5 to 8 and essentially end gtowns season. It’s fans like this that make it easy to believe some posters were actually happy Ponds didn’t come back. We could have a special season if LJ comes back for his senior season and if you think he’s easily replaceable, or worse, we’d be better off without him, then you don’t know basketball.

Let’s beat creighton
Very true... is LJ the best player on a top 20 team? No, but he’s a helluva player, and all top 20 teams can definitely use an LJ. We’ll be extremely lucky to have him back. He contributes in so many ways that don’t always make the stat sheet.

Noticed a “good riddance” in the game thread... think people just get caught up in their feelings watching... know I do- that’s why I don’t post during the games.

Amazing comeback- last 7 mins were the most fun I had watching this season. Was really hoping on taking an extended lunch tomorrow at msg... will have to settle at a bar in midtown now lol

Go St. John’s!

Hellofa Team win. These kids stick together. Kudos to CMA for setting a great positive tone for our team.

Where is the Earlington hater, Eric W.? Not a big enough man o eat crow and give some kudos to Marcellus. This young man always plays hard and leaves everything on the floor. He deserves more than unwarranted knocks. He is still learning the game an will only get better.
Who is the eric w you speak of and why would anyone care to know where he is when we are in the midst of celebrating an all time victory.
Since I've been called upon.....I would never consider myself a Earlington hater. He is a nice player. I was more of a Duke of Earlington hater, mostly for trolling this board and always acting like no one else on the team mattered. I never said Earlington was a bad player....all I ever said was that he is an average player at best, which I hate to say, he is. Sorry, that's just reality.

Did he have a fantastic game tonight? No doubt about it. Did he win us the game tonight? Yes (along with LJ). Did he drastically improve as the season went on? That's debatable, but probably.

He had a great game tonight. But in two out of the last three games, he also only had 4pts. For me, the consistency just isn't there for him to be called anything than an OK basketball player.

I'll say it again, I don't think he is a bad player. He's had some great games. But at end of the day, he's an average player.

Amazing how every game someone else comes up big. Great job by CMA. Love his brand of BB as it is exciting, win or lose, but winning is a hell of a lot better.

Someone should dig up all the posts about wanting to force Earlington out. And I only say this because I remember disagreeing with it, so I'm on the right side of history.

Maybe five guys here expected anything from him this season. One of them knows the family and the other four either had access to practice or got inside info of how he was busting his ass. I was hoping for 4.5 ppg and 3 rpg. . .

When was the last time a player has proved so many wrong ( including me ) as Earlington has

If he starts hitting a steady 3 holy cow what potential with the way he can finish around the basket also

Great, gutsy win. Awesome comeback. Not sure what to expect tomorrow. Obvious short turnaround. Creighton will be looking for revenge. Will our legs be there?

Earlington is all heart. Not much a skill-guy. If he can get his footwork and other skills in tune, he will take another huge jump. He has a good feel for where to be. I still feel like he’s mega-raw. His best days are ahead of him. I too wrote him off.

Gotta disagree with you on the his not being much of a skill guy. He is our best finisher around the hoop, and he does it with not just muscle, but with plenty of skill. Yes he can still improve on his skills, but I think many underestimate how skilled he is already.

He’s really raw. His touch is good, has a great motor and he goes after the ball. Those are his best attributes. He isn’t a natural basketball guy imo and is still learning that stuff. I think he’s still scratching the surface. The talent is there and he could be a ton more.

I just got back from the Garden and was glad that I went to, what looks like it will be, the last game that we play this season in front of a live crowd. The comeback was fantastic and for me the game flipped when Terrell Allen went down with a leg cramp with more than six minutes left to play. After that, Georgetown was rutterless and could do nothing.without their Quarterback healthy and running the show. Give us credit though, once the door of opportunity opened a crack the team bashed it in and swarmed a fatigued and undermanned Georgetown team and delivered a decisive knockout blow.

Earlington was awesome and led the way but others contributed as well and it was very much a team victory. Kudos to Coach Mike Anderson who has kept this team playing hard all season and has allowed the players to blossom under his guidance. I don't know how we will play against Creighton tomorrow, with a very quick turnaround, but I wil not be shocked if we battle like hell against them for the whole forty minutes.

I watched the replay on Fox. I noticed Yurtseven wasn't as dominate. He made a few nice blocks. He looked rusty and nothing like the beast in the 1st game with St John's. He did the best he could after returning from the ankle injury.

Mike managed his players time really well. Rutherford, Champagnie, Earlington, and Williams were all close to 26 minutes. That was a big advantage in the final minutes of the game. The Georgetown players were over 35 minutes and it definitely showed.

Overall a much needed win. I think the Johnnies have already earned a place in the NIT. Beating Creighton again will be the icing on the cake.

I agree. I just don't think you can be all heart, and nothing else, and have the success he's had in league play this year. Some skill has to be involved. Heck, I can go out there with all heart, and I'm not going to last very long.
