Really liked out team's D tonight. Nice wrinkle with Ponds attacking the ball.

Just a reminder our beat writer picked against us. Called out by his coworker for being too negative.

Aren’t we lucky to be covered by a guy that looks exactly like Jared from Subway and who wants us to fail?
I’m not the biggest Zach fan but everyone calls him a jinx and he jokes about it often. I might be wrong but feel he was jinxing DePaul with that tweet.
He defended it in other tweets to Howie Kussoy.

And when they are bad they are horrid.

So happy as a fan we won this game. We punched our ticket without doubt, as we were flirting with disaster if we lost. Now it's all about winning tomorrow night to make the next few days fun. The Big East wants a Ewing/Mullin on Friday night. Let's give it to them. Happy for the kids and staff who should get a ton of credit for tonight. Let's show up tomorrow night to make a nice home court advantage.

Credit where credit is due. Great game plan on D by the staff with the one man zone and hedging or doubling Struss coming off screens. Great execution of the D by the team and Simon showed why he's BE Defensive Player of the Year and was great on offense as well. Complete game by the starting five, good timeouts and game management by Chris. Terrific much needed win. Go rest those tired legs and go get Marquette tomorrow!

Get your dancing shoes ready! Speaking of dancing shoes, Raft was getting a little un-PC with his comments about Olujobi’s shoes!

We did a great job on their bigger people.

Femi - 6 points, 5 rebounds
Reed - 8 points, 4 rebounds (only 18 minutes, but he didn't feel like a force when he was out there)
Strus - 14 points (and that includes two 3's in the final minute, long after the game had been decided), 4-12 FG, 2-7 3PT FG. A far cry from last week.

The other big guy, Butz, did grab 14 rebounds, but his offensive game is really non-existent, so he didn't hurt us too much, either.

Cain and Gage were great for a good portion of this game, but I've always felt that, if it's a battle of the guards, I like our guys against almost anybody. That came to fruition in the second half.

NCAA Tournament, here we come!

HELL of a win! I was super anxious for this, so glad we were able to pull it off!!

Congratulations on a great team victory.
MVP goes to Simon. Outstanding defense on Strus.
Excellent defensive job against their bigs. Good plan double teaming Reed and Ulujbi.
Didn't like all the space Ponds gave to a poor shooter Gage. I know he was the roamer but allowed him to shoot well in front of the foul line.
Was going bananas when Mullln stopped the momentum subbing Trimble, Williams and Roberts early in first half.
Really liked our drives to the basket by all starters.
Hopefully they get a lot of rest. Going to need same energy on defense.
Simon has a big job against Howard,. watch the fakes. Keep him away from the ball similar to his superb defense against Strus.
Our court, our fans another victory.

Great post Jack.

As you say, some good strategy employed. Simon stuck to Strus and thought it was brilliant move to have Simon post him on offense. It is what Simon should be doing all the time.

Great game. Nice Johnny turnout although garden emptied out a bit for the 930 game. Hope our guys have some energy left for tomorrow.

Bought a single and heading back tomorrow night to see another win.

Special kudos to Keita. I was sitting behind the St. John's bench and kept on eye on him during the first half, which he sat out despite Clark playing a sizable minutes with three fouls in a very physical game. He could have been sulking, but when he was called upon in the second half, he went in -- raced in! -- and played with great enthusiasm, energizing his teammates as well as the crowd by being a defensive force inside and keeping Clark from possibly fouling out. Very valuable contribution by the big guy. Hope it continues.

And the resident NET guru's work wasn't a complete waste of his time!

I usually like to see our name flash on the screen before getting too excited, but it definitely feels like a lock to me now. It's actually the most lock-ish I've felt, which is remarkable considering our slump seemed like a killer.

Enjoyable game. If Simon plays like that most of the year we win 5 more games in big east. I was very confident we would win last night by 8 or more but with a big game by Clark. Should have substituted Clark’s name with Simon. Tonight will be Clark’s night. Let’s go!!!

There is a palpable difference when this team plays with confidence. I just dont mean winning or losing, or shots made or missed. There is better movement on offense, athletic active defense, urgency to get out on transition.

Only issue I had is short possessions under 4 minutes when the clock is your friend. One directive of a Mullin coached team is to fire away when you get a good look, no matter who you are and how you've been shooting. Can't vehemently disagree because that's a shooter's mentality, but as the game winds down a 28 second possession can be a sure thing whereas a good look from 20 with 5 seconds used is no more than a 50-50 proposition.

Great win! So happy for coach and the team. I didn’t get to watch the second half unfortunately. Let’s beat Marquette one more time!
