BE Tournament

Can they win the BE Tournament - no not with a strategy of 40 minutes of hell. Even if they win a game that strategy will never get them a second or third win. The players will be exhausted. CMA should surprise with a zone and man to man defense. The other BE teams will never expect it or be prepared. Of course someone has to put the ball in the basket for us

You’re right, teams will never expect a zone or man to man defense. That’ll trick them.

Fourth- and fifth-graders solved my daughter's team's 2-3 pretty easily. But maybe coach will have more luck.

Boeheim has done pretty well
Anyway the point is they cant physically have the stamina to go 40 minutes of pressing in two or three games in a row. Plus the BE teams have adjusted to this. Was it Wright or Willard who said as much

Many of you folks are too young too have watched the Goodrich UCLA championship team in the 60's but Wooden used what they called the famous UCLA press but only at key moments in the game. Oh yea but Wooden isnt as smart a coach as CMA

Win the big east tournament??? Hahahahahahahahaha.

This team is awful and the grind of the season has finally gotten to them. They are toast. They will not win another game this season.

One year it would be cool to be that team that comes out of nowhere and makes at least a deep run in the BET. But it never has been us and I'd bet my life nothing changes this year. Hard to even get excited for the BET as a SJ fan to be honest. If we were a PC or SHU or really any team other than us or DePaul, there would always be that "hey you never know" excitement of it. Just seems that when we are supposed to be good we lay an egg in the BET and when we are rebuilding we lay an egg. To have a real shot at winning the BET, you need to be consistent and balanced. We have been one of the most inconsistent teams in the conference for 5 years now...probably even longer under Lavin. We also have no balance obviously because CMA wasn't left much, but all we have is defense. We are like the Jets in that regard. Keep focusing on one side of the ball every year and then act surprised when you finish near the bottom in offense. You need competent scoring and a competent defense. That leads to consistency which allows you the ability to string wins together. This is my main concern with CMA's style that he focuses too much on one side. I will wait and see what he can do with more talented guys coming in.

You comparing this team to Goodrich's UCLA teams is even sillier than another poster complaining about Anderson because of Lavin and Mullin. Didn't think it was possible so congratulations I guess.

I'm glad you're showing some "balance." From predicting upsets throughout most of the season to dumping on the team. Helluva balance on your part!

You continue to amaze me

Slowing the game down will not only guarantee a boring loss, it may chase any interested recruits away. Fourteen wins, with 2 over ranked teams and near misses against several others, is a sign of good coaching. I can only imagine what the record would have been with any of our last 3 coaches. I know some (one) posters think that this team's talent is close to other Big East teams, but in truth it is far behind. The style employed by CMA and the fight in the players have kept the games interesting. Splitting the 4 conference games that we lead late in the game puts us in the NIT. Not bad for a year most knew would be one for rebuilding.

Well John's been dead for a decade so he's probably dropped a few IQ points since then.

Except now you've blown the surprise.

To be fair we’ve won in the first round of the BET. For like 3 years in a row. The problem is we haven’t gotten to Friday night which is when sh*t gets serious. When is our last Friday night appearance at the Big East Tournament? Does anyone know without looking it up?

It's easy for a long time fan like myself.... 2000.

But the 2010-2011 team (Lavin's first season) was the equivalent of a Friday night participant, as they had a bye and won their first game in the Big East Tournament. There were more teams participating in a larger conference at the time.

Technically, it was 2000 when we last won the conference tournament.

Agreed on the 2011 team, but can’t ignore how disastrous that teams first game was that year. Where they barely beat Rutgers, and I believe Brownlee traveled and then threw the ball up in the air in celebration when the game wasn’t even over. Refs didn’t notice and sju won. Then Kennedy gets hurt the next game against Cuse. Terrible memories of that BET. And yet yes that was our last “good” one

I suppose you are referring to me with your talent comment; another poster who majored in reading comprehension. I NEVER compared our talent to any other team, I said if our talent is good enough to win 37 minute games it should be good enough to win 40 minute games. I also said our record should be better than it is based on the late collapses and the amount of double digit second half leads we have blown. If you disagree, fine, no problem, but IMO, a HUGE talent differential manifests itself in blowouts, of which there have been few. It does not show by beating some good teams, leading others by double digits relatively deep into games and by blowing games late when you have built up reasonable working margins.
Of course we need better players but that does not mean this team shouldn’t have 2-3 more wins and be in the bubble discussion. As I said, you disagree, fine, but at least take the time and effort to read and understand my view and don’t just put words in my mouth.

For a change? Believe we’ve won our first round game the last three years.
