You may be right and I wrong but where was Pitino while Richmond was NOT getting in shape, and then why is Richmond on the court last night playing poorly while Baylor is coming back and his only positive playing guard, Smith, gets extensive pine time?I agree and don’t think Pitino BS’d on that one early in week.
Richmond looked like a far better and more confident player last year when the Hall clobbered us twice during the regular season. He was by far the top guy on a far less talented seton hall team last year that should have made the tournament. I’m sick that we lost but some of these comments are insane and I’m generally a pessimist.
This team is far more talented than any team we’ve had in recent memory and we have a hall of fame coach to boot. All is not lost.
I retired from being retired in 2016, when I was 73. You start to see system breakdowns that you worked to overcome and wind up with the line from Patton, "The difference between me and Monty is that I'm not willing to fight for the same ground twice."You may be right and I wrong but where was Pitino while Richmond was NOT getting in shape, and then why is Richmond on the court last night playing poorly while Baylor is coming back and his only positive playing guard, Smith, gets extensive pine time?
I may be a gang of one but pretty much feeling the Johnnie’s are far from getting HOF coaching from Pitino.
Having said that, I am not necessarily surprised; Father Time loses to no one. At 74, I have had to relinquish much of the day to day with my company due mainly to my own much different mind set. Could I still do it, I think so; do I want to anymore, at times egotistically, yes, but being honest with myself, no.
So do I still have a foot in the door, yes. Does that piss off the people I have put in charge, you bet, mostly because too often when I try to get involved, it becomes apparent I no longer have a grasp of the details needed to make the proper decision, which they have to take the time to let me know. And me being as muleheadedly stubborn as I am, that is not always easy nor really productive.
It doesn’t just feel like it , it is. So is the Georgia game now and all of our other OOC games. We lost our shot at a signature OOC win. The other OOC games don’t come close to Baylor and we can’t afford to lose any of them now. My real concern about tonight is that this team will be emotionally and physically drained after last nights game. If that’s the case, then we will again have a huge hole to dig ourselves out of once again.Hate to say this, but this feels like a must win game.
As I alluded to my problem has been that I have “kinda” retired so I am at a crossroads because I am being half ass involved and not really contributing positively. I think I am going to get the hell out of Dodge completely because I am just beginning to work with several people, including my son and daughter, to form a youth sports organization fielding soccer, softball and basketball travel teams U10 thru U16. Looking for an indoor facility and currently putting together the associated startup logistical need plans. Hopefully that will scratch the “staying busy and useful” itch that is killing me right now.I retired from being retired in 2016, when I was 73. this.... we lost our only shot at a Marquee win (and another one with Tenn) - KState doesnt seem to be anything super special... Georgia is good i guess... but Baylor was the jewel of the OOC....It doesn’t just feel like it , it is. So is the Georgia game now and all of our other OOC games. This is one of the Wildest lines I've seen on here...I regard Consolation games like kissing a Sister . Ok but , not like kissing your Wife or girl friend .....
There are very few doubters about Rick’s ability to Coach players up and improve their BB skills .I don't think it is a "must win" at this time of year, and I don't think any games are "must win" this time of the year.
The less Ws you get in the OOC, the more Ws you need to rack up in the conference. So, losses here mean we have to make up for them in the league, whereas taking care of things in the OOC gives you more cushion for the league.
I'm more interested in seeing how our kids respond to a gut-wrenching loss.
As far as Pitino "losing his fastball", I couldn't disagree more but am not going to play Monday morning QB with each and every move. Is he infallible? No, and I bet if you studied games during the "peak" Pitino years, you would find plenty of coaching-decisions you could second-guess him on game in, game out. The most obvious one is failing to guard the inbounds with 2 seconds left in a game against Duke many years ago with a guy named Grant Hill throwing in the ball.
But you watch our guys play the last year+, and you watch how much better certain players have gotten under Pitino, it is obvious to me he still very much has "it".
No one is saying all is lost I don’t think. I am certainly not. I think we should be ranked in or just out of the top 25 all year. I also believe we will finally make the tournament. He was by far the top guy on a far less talented seton hall team last year that should have made the tournament. The defensive approach in that scenario is very simple, you stop the ball on the dribble or you force passes side to side or backwards. That is why you have defenders pre-positioned to accomplish that. Pitino didn’t do that, allowing a quick pass to half court and an uncontested dribble to the top of the key. There are very few doubters about Rick’s ability to Coach players up and improve their BB skills .
But , there are times in a game that the Coach has to take charge , implement a plan or strategy to deal with the circumstances and get his players plugged into their role .
Did that happen last night on the Zuby inbound mistake with 6.5 seconds left ? Was any kind of defense established to deal with possible misses ? Didn’t seem so .
Roach got a shot off that was more than a Prayer or Hail Mary . Never should have gotten that good a look .
That's my concern as well. We'll have an idea by the first TV timeout. Hopefully, they prove me (and you) wrong. My real concern about tonight is that this team will be emotionally and physically drained after last nights game. These guys are young obviously, but still can't be easy playing a double OT game and then immediately playing a game the next night, especially since that's not the norm. That's my concern as well. We'll have an idea by the first TV timeout. Hopefully, they prove me (and you) wrong.
Of saw it right if RJ doesnt deflect the ball it may have fallen right to Zuby. Didn t look the Baylors were blocking out instead looking for outlet pass on possible miss. Of course the ball get deflected right to Omier, his being able to get those few dribbles out of trouble was the key.The defensive approach in that scenario is very simple, you stop the ball on the dribble or you force passes side to side or backwards. I forgot the exact time and score of that play so I didn’t include it in my tirades but agree 100%. That play was actually what started me down the dark side.Of saw it right if RJ doesnt deflect the ball it may have fallen right to Zuby. To me though the most egregious mistake was the Smith pass up to Zuby with 35 seconds left up 5. No need for the pass and defintely didnt have to try and score.
Because it is?Hate to say this, but this feels like a must win game.
