Article: Mullin to SJU An Awful Hire

Here's my reaction to this article. Certainly anyone can write anything they want but:

I played in a competitive software team where three brothers who were pretty good athletes also played. When they competed against each other, they would get into horrible arguments and almost come to blows. But if someone else stepped in and said something horrible about one of the three, the other two would immediately snap to their brother's defense and turn on that guy, even if he was a teammate. The lesson - you don't bad mouth family.

Mullin is family to us. All non-family members, if you have nothing good to say about this, keep your mouths shut.

Other than a small concern about recruiting, my biggest worry is what this will do to Fun. Even if it doesn't work out, can't see Mullin doing anything that Fun would truly hate. This is a pretty big concern as it might affect his posting style, of which I am a fan.

Norm's best recruit was the son of a former teammate. Norm only played at Molloy and Queens College. Mullin played at St. John's, two Olympic teams, 16 years in the NBA with two different teams, and worked as an exec for a few different teams.

Obviously you can't build or sustain a program with a core of the sons of guys you played and worked with, but there are some intriguing names out there to give him a little boost: Bol Bol a top ten freshman recruit whose brother is named after Chris Mullin, Maverick Rowan, Rowan Barrett Jr., Charles Minlend Jr. off the top of my head. I guess we just missed on Tim Hardaway Jr., but there will be others.

Norm did not play at Molloy. He played at Springfield Gardens HS, where he believed his talent was equivalent to Anthony Mason. He was the freshman coach there, and according to some, was an absolutely horrible coach there as well.

Wow, you are correct. I've tried to forget as much about Norm as possible. The point is the same, though. Mullin was able to interact and build relationships with so many incredible athletes over his 30 years in the NBA compared with Norm.

The point is Norm should never have been hired. Firing Jarvis begat Norm. Otherwise he would never have had a chance to fail.

In every heart there is a room
A sanctuary safe and strong
To heal the wounds from lovers past
Until a new one comes along

And every time I've held a rose
It seems I only felt the thorns
And so it goes, and so it goes
And so will you soon I suppose

But if my silence made you leave
Then that would be my worst mistake
So I will share this room with you
And you can have this heart to break

So I would choose to be with you
That's if the choice were mine to make
But you can make decisions too
And you can have this heart to break

And so it goes, and so it goes
And you're the only one who knows.

Pavlov's Dog
At The Sound Of The Bell
DID YOU SEE HIM CRY
David Surkamp - Douglas Rayburn

How many times has he waited there
Beneath the boughs of angel hair
Woolen coat pulled tight against the wind
That whipped and chaffed his face
And left him that much more apart
From his old dreams that new lovers
Cannot own or hope to ever know
What's behind an old man's lonely eyes

When he's alone and the sun is high
Children laugh and he'd like to hide
Days like these seem to hang on
For so long
They seem to drag him down
And leave him that much more apart
And he wishes someone would invite him home
To pass the time
Or to maybe find some time
Or maybe

Did you see him cry

Did you ever watch him pace
And all the ways he tries to hide his face
Misplaced in a world not like his own
And did you ever stop to speak
Or hear him try to tell about
How she and he were lovers
Just like you
And they were just like you

Of course most here don't agree with it (including myself), but the article is perfect for it's intended purpose. It is getting clicks and people talking about it. It's like a troll x 1000.

Boomer Esiason thinks the hiring is a bad idea. That should convince anyone who has reservations of its virtues. -Fun

This morning Boomer and Carton said it is there understanding that Lavin left Mullin with a great incoming recruiting class.
I think they should be cutoff from discussing SJU basketball
