Article: 5 Questions SJU Must Answer for 2017

The title of the article is ridiculous but the content is correct.
Going from memory.
We will be better because Bashir was the number 2 juco in the country and can step right In at the 3.
Don't expect too much from Owens.
Yakwe has star potential but is raw offensively but should improve 4-5 points a game offensively.
Mussini will be better as he does not have to be the primary ball handler.
Lovett is a pass first pg with eyes in the back of his head
Ponds has star potential and can help score and distribute.
So basically we will be improved because we now have a true pg, a potentially very good combo guard, Mussini will not be asked to play out of position, Yakwe with his high motor will improve and Bashir should be a very good player.
Nothing knew that this informed board did not know.
Plus improvement from a healthy Yakwe, high level Richard F , Happy said Ellison is our most improved player this summer, and Amar and hopefully Williams is healthy.

I will believe the Ellison improvement hype, when I see it on the floor. He was horrible last year, so being the "most improved" does not mean he will be any good.

Cut him!! :)

Yet another journalist who garners info from Redmen.com! lol

That's cute!!! I would recruit over him.

Most unfair Al, kid suffered a big injury 2 years ago and missed a year. He improved nicely as the season went on and while he may never be a star can be a valuable piece going forward. He can play 3 different positions and in case you are unaware the staff has recruited much higher ranked players for this season at the 1,2and 3.

That was my point. They have recruited over him. They must have watched his play last year too. There are all sorts of hard luck stories, injuries etc. that cause players to regress or overcome their situations. I don't evaluate players based on those things, only how they perform on the court. I am very anxious to see how Ellison performs this year, and I will hope he is the player some say he will be. I will reserve my opinions of that until I have actually seen him perform better than he did last year.

Al, he was only a freshman ( or a first year student as they will be called at Princeton from now on). He clearly has potential and is a hard worker from excellent pedigree. Reminds me of a young DJ Kennedy who may take longer to mature. His previous injuries may have slowed him defensively but kids like him could bust out once healthy. Our basketball team will be like a very good sushi restaurant; raw, yet seasoned but will depend highly on the skills of the sushi chefs. I am more concerned about their development than Malik's.

Lot of talk about Yakwe breaking out and I am definitely someone who is very excited about his potential. Just wondering what do posters envision as 'breakout" for him? I would be very surprised if he averages double digits but I dont think hes the type of player who's impact is felt strictly by their numbers.

8 pts 8 rbs, 2 blks would be fantastic.

I think he gives us more than 2 bpg. Would be thrilled with your other numbers.

Give or take 1 PPG and RPG, I would have to say you're spot on. 2-2.5 blks is what I would expect as well.

Really only one question: Is Chris a coach or a feel-good figurehead?

I'm not paying his salary, so I actually couldn't care less if he was a figurehead -- as long as the "real" coach is already on staff. This year will show whether that's the case or not.

Matt's magic will only last so long if recruits don't see results.

Competing with 2 other shot blockers plus players usually start to adjust. I don't think hell average less than two but also dont think his blocks will rise all that much.

Exactly. That's why I am hoping Mitch is not Slice's replacement.

I thought it's clear that he is.

Lucky for me I don't think Mitch is the real coach.
